Re: Has Hyndburn been affected by this Power Cut?

Hiya

I was about 200 yards away from it at work, flames were great, power went off, came back on, went off again. We had power all day but have been warned that to conserve energy, they will be swapping power with those that didnt have any every now and then.

United Utilities wouldnt assess damage until fire had completely gone but I was at Rawtenstall Asda till 9.20pm and there seemed to be power all over- though the offices have been told to be ready for major disruption today (am crossing my fingers, could do with working from home)

When you watch the film clip it becomes clear that residents first reported gas leaks sixteen days ago, and that a leak was identified.

Why on earth it took over two weeks for them to attempt to fix the leak is very worrying.

I suppose it's another example of profits over service, even when lives are put at risk.

It was amazing to watch the bloke from the National Grid squirming whilst being questioned by Gordon Burns on Northwest Tonight, not matter what Gordon said he just kept to his script, a bit like another Gordon I know

I was in Haslingden Tesco when the power went off. Lights off, alarms going, checkouts dead... had to key in every barcode of the big shop into the self service checkout!
Went into Bury after that and a large section of the motorway was closed going into Rawtenstall. Saw the pylon up in flames. Friends I went to sixth form with in the valley are worried about having Christmas without any gas. Cue jokes about sprouts!

That was me but of course at the time I never realised it was all going to go so badly wrong. I have to be fair and say that the National Grid were doing their very best to fix the leak (caused by the failure of a joint on a pipeline only a few years old) without having to cut everybody off!
