Who says though the Mayor has to be male.

When the mayor is female the mayoress is known as the mayors consort.

I will read it if they have managed to print it to a worthwhile standard this week. That paper has the the worst print quality ever, the colour registration is terrible and the paper is always dirty looking.

Good job you don't live in Cambridge.

As for Hyndburn, it isn't the first time we've had a female Mayor and consort, and I doubt it will be the last.

Yes i know jaysay - if you look above 4 posts you will see i said when the mayor is female the mayoress is known as the mayors consort.

It was just the way Neil was going on - seeing as we dont bother when we have a female mayor - we must be more forward thinking on this side of the hill!!!

If an elected Mayor/Mayoress is unmarried are they just allowed to choose a friend to be their consort? Are there any requirements that this friend would have to meet?

Yes thats the case Lily they pick a friend or relative to be their mayoress or consort. I think the person has to be able to follow the same conditions as being a councillor.
