Re: What kind of lifestyle would 20 million pounds buy you?

Margaret, in my opinion, its a partnership. Julie and I share everything. we don't have seperate money or bank accounts or anything. the money goes in a pot and we share whats left. to me thats what a marriage says "with all my worldy goods etc". If you don't mean it don't say it.

Yes Ian, my hubby and I have a very similar arrangement...and although I didn't take those kind of vows(we had a civil ceremony some 41 years ago) it is implicit that we share everything.
My husband would be the first to tell you that our financial stability over the years has been mainly down to my prudence with money.......and if we split I am sure we would both agree to go right down the middle with everything.

Re: What kind of lifestyle would 20 million pounds buy you?

MMMMM when we set down the road of ball & chain promises are made that are soon broken quite easily more so with impending divorce [otherwise be no divorce lol] trouble is can get to point of little being children squabbling over a toy!!

Some people value the material more than the necessities, i walked from my divorce with nothing - x had the house the lot, no payment of maintenance, i got my clothes & kids - thats it! was no point scrapping over that little crap, living our lives again was more important - i started over! Things can be replaced - life/people cant!

Yes, somehwere along the way in this partnership, promises were broken......and in life there are very few guarantees. This woman is not in the first flush of youth, but then neither is she in her dotage....she can still make a very good life for herself at 54....and who is to say that she will not find a better, more supportive partner? With 20 million pounds under her belt she stands a sporting chance.

I reckon she is entitled to half of his huge earnings;ever heard the phrase "behind every man is a strong woman" .Well she has contributed to his success by looking after him and his homes, raising his kids and being his partner. Should be a 50/50 split and I would expect the same.

If she got half of what he has earned it would be something like 70 million pounds.

Why do either of them have access to such obcene amounts of money? What have they done to deserve it, and how much can they take to the other side? The only winners in this situation are the greedy lawyers.Messrs Sue Grabbit And Run.

The law should apply equally, if there is 48 million on the table, or £4.80.

The children of this partnership are grown up so it isn't like Beverly Charman has some major expenditure in school fees etcetera.

I have mixed feelings about the situation. I feel that although John Charman feels that his wife did nothing to help him build up his business empire...he was in insurance, by the way....she did give him a stable family home and brought up two children.....so in a way she DID contribute.
However, I could manage quite nicely on just the interest that would accrue from such a vast amount of money....and I think she is being just a bit greedy.
What do you think?
well it wont change my life one bit lol
