Mushroom Hunt
 

Mushroom Hunts are very popular, we ran one a couple of years ago and people came from all round Lancashire.

Running another one on 11th September. Cost is £12.50 (or £6.50 for concessions). The cost is to cover the cost of the mushroom expert that I've had to hire, plus the cost of brunch which is included in the price.

The walk begins at 10am on the 11th, meeting at the Mill Hill entrance to Foxhill Nature Reserve and then finishes with brunch at the new Civic Arts Centre.

I would be really interested to hear what you find. I worked for Mrs Tee in the New Forest for many years and she used to run seminars and was one of the first suppliers of wild mushrooms to the restaurants in London still does I believe. I have been out today and the boletes are starting to appear, lots of chicken of the wood and just one beefsteak so far, exciting time for mushrooms, please keep us posted would love to know what is growing in Ossy.

i'd have loved to come but we afe really busy trying to get my mums flat sorted. theres loads of mushrooms around the woods at my workplac and i've always wondered if any are safe to eat etc.

if there is another id love to come, just cant make this one

I've been down Newark way this weekend and in the woods near where we stayed there were loads of different kinds of mushrooms, wish I knew which ones were edible, here's a "few" pictures!

Unfortunately I wont be able to make it that day but it would be intersting to find out, not sure I'd trust myself though, quotes like put me off, I have looked before, trouble is for every species thats edible there is another that looks like it, thats the worrying bit for me

I agree with the post about liver failure. I love seeing the mushrooms grow, BUT there are so many look alikes, be very very careful, I spent many years sorting through yellow chantrelle but still cannot tell the difference between the false ones growing in the forest. Enjoy the hunt and if you do stumble on a true Boletus Edulis , fried with lots of salt.

Boletus Edulis is a Porchini. a penny bun , cep.

Great photos, I only know the edible ones, think the 7th is a birch bolete or a bay bolete

So I found 1 edible one out of 18 :eek:
I "think" the 6th and 7th were in the same location so possibly the same
