So what exactly is your point ? What are you after achieving ? it seems as though you go down one direction then change & go off on another without rhyme or reason, to what end ? I & I believe others would like to know who & what you are & what you're about. Is that to much to ask ?

Re: Bigotry on the web.

Well I cant fall into the bigot fold based on my convo with my mate wiki;

The exact origin of the word is unknown, but it may have come from the German bei and gott, or the English by God. William Camden wrote that the Normans were first called bigots, when their Duke Rollo, who when receiving Gisla, daughter of King Charles, in marriage, and with her the investiture of the dukedom, refused to kiss the king's foot in token of subjection - unless the king would hold it out for that specific purpose. When being urged to do it by those present, Rollo answered hastily "No, by God", whereupon the King, turning about, called him bigot, which then passed from him to his people.[1] This is quite probably fictional, as Gisla is unknown in Frankish sources. It is true, however, that the French used the term bigot to abuse the Normans.[2].
The twelfth century Charlotte B J Anglo-Norman author Wace claimed that bigot was an insult which the French used against the Normans, but it is unclear whether or not this is how it entered the English language.[3]
According to Egon Friedell, "bigot" is of the same root as "visigoth". In Vulgar Latin, the initial v transformed into b (a phenomenon today encountered in Iberian languages, such as Spanish and Portuguese; visi had truncated into bi in Vulgar Latin (a phenomenon common in French and Portuguese).[1][2]

A bigot (in modern usage) is a prejudiced person who is intolerant of any opinions differing from their own or intolerant of people of different ethnicity, race, or class.

Yes if he/she is a member of the Church of England.

If you move to Wales and decide to be a member of the Church of Wales the queen is not the head of that Church.

It's not easy to sort out the intricacies of the Anglican Communion of which the Church of England is a part along with many others e.g. Scottish Episcopalian Church.

Greetings Dave , The continuous changes in direction are caused by the continuous changes in direction of the questions I am being asked.I try to answer the questions I am asked , but they are of such a varied nature, so I can understand your confusion.

The questions and comments I receive are , on the whole , not related to the initial comments I made when I started this thread. However , if you read the questions and comments I have received , you ought to realise that my initial comments were well-founded.
You will find a high level of intolerance , cheap jibes , accusations made without evidence to back them up , sneering at practices different from one's own etc. etc.
Many of the opinions sent to me are argumentum ad hominem , which is often an excuse to cause diversion because the opinions are held without any facts to validate them.
One sad person on Accy Web appears to take pride in being a bigot and intolerant.
As I have said before Accy Web has the potential to be a good source for local knowledge , reasoned debate and respectful discussion.Include also the banter and jokes , but any good comedian will get you to laugh with , not at others.
Unfortunately Accy Web is largely made up of a clique which lives in its own little world , with its own little minds and its own little knowledge of logic , the English language , the real world's vastness of ideas and questionings which give spice to life.Remain there if you wish , cossetted in your pathetic smugness , or open up.Be welcoming.Encourage those to participate though you may not share their outlook on life.Be magnanimous and you will grow richer in wisdom and tolerance.
Note that in the above paragraph I wrote "largely made up of".There are those on this web who do display that they have intelligence and large-heartedness.Hoping not to embarass him , I refer you to Graham Jones' letter in last week's Observer , as an example of this positive and generous attitude I desire to see more of.
So come on Accy Web members.Get real.Lets make something great out of this enterprise.
Meanwhile I shall remain strong in my Christian Faith.I shall not be ashamed to be called a Socialist.I shall be pleased to remain an Accringtonian because my roots are here , though I mourn for its sad decline over the past few decades.I pray that I shall be around for a few more years yet.

Your arrogance really knows no bounds, does it? You've been on here five minutes and you're already giving us pep-talks like some sort of commander-in-chief.

Bog off, Godbotherer.

So now that's cleared up, let me rephrase the question -

Oi!...Godbotherer!...Who are you accusing of taking pride in being an intolerant bigot?

If he replies at all, expect a nursery level riddle.

He's too afraid to post anything as straightforward as an actual answer.

Ok when will JCB be back for the next round and round and round and round we go?

Tealeaf 26-05-2010 17:46

Re: Bigotry on the web.

I think some of you are being a little too hard on JCB. He obviously has strongly held views - as so do many on here - and many of his views may seem incompatible with some of those members who have been on this site for longer. However, surely the principle should be that any new(ish) member should be treated on exactly the same basis as those who have been here for years.

JCB has professed his Christian beliefs. So What? There is nothing extreme about them. As far as I am aware, they are fully reconcilable with democratic debate and an open society so I don't see what the problem is. He may possibly have misinterpreted this website and even some of it's members but that is probably only through being a little clouded as to what it's about. He can't tell the comedians from the rest - but neither can I, and I've been on here for seven years. So give him time and don't be nasty to the guy.

Err...sorry Cashy, you're wrong. He started his first posts off with references to Christmas, terrorism and a priest..then he started laying in to HBC and the Tory/Lib-Dems which continued for a while. The bigot stuff was his first thread starter..personally, I thought it was rather innocuous which is why I gave it my usual flippant reply. However, subsequent contributions have turned it rather nasty and it's gone beyond the usual debate on ideas to one of personal attacks, which I find somewhat sad.
