It is good though and reflects a building we all recognise ... they have cropped it a little on the width and the colours don't come across as well.
Still, I think it is the best and will vote for our Andrew.

There is another though which is looking down the main slope of the Coppice of people out and about in the snow, sledging, etc. Bit like a Lowry painting ... like this too.

Yes I have voted for Andrews picture , and the colours dont come across as well.I also thought the the picture like a lowry painting was very nice the colours looked good on that one.

I'm not surprised. I encouraged him to enter that shot. I think it is a great picture. Hope it wins.

Is the competition in this weeks Observer? I've not bought a copy yet.

Good Luck Andrew.......I haven't decided yet whether to enter this comp.

I think picture 2 would have a fair chance as it is a well recognised landmark in Accrington, and your picture does make it look very attractive.

newsflash ... Andrewb has made the final 6 ... and theres a bit about him:

Andrew Barrett of Manchester Road, Accrington took a snap of the Grade II listed mansion at oakhill park which was built in 1793 by thomas hargreaves. The 21 politics student feels lucky to have made the final six after entering the cash prize christmas card competition by chance. "I had been at oakhill park with my camera and just happened to get shots of the mansion during the heavy snow" said andrew, aformer mount carmel high school pupil. "When i heard about the competition later in the observer ithought the picture that i took was a good one to enter".

thanks for taking time to put those posts together Jen......see, I did encourage him.......and if I am honest that shot should win it.....it is the best one and is most representative of the town.

Thank-you for putting those posts together. I was genuinely shocked to have a phone call on election day asking about me and requesting a photo!

I'm really proud to have made the final because it really was a picture I took just by chance. I'm glad Margaret encouraged me to enter it!

Whoever you vote for, I think they have to be in by Tuesday!

Agree Margaret, but get that feeling that the one with Father Christmas on it may have a chance, even though it may seem a little corny.

I'll vote for Andrew anyway. :)

Re: Snow photos - Dec 2009

I have to say that I am not keen on the one with Santa in it....but it depends where the picture is going to be in the calendar...if it is December then perhaps they might choose that one...but personally I think that if they want to portray Accrington, it is he one which does it....the sunset one is pleasant, as is the one wiith the Canada Goose on it, but they don't say 'Accrington' do they?
But, hey what do I know?

Re: Snow photos - Dec 2009

Agree entirely .. actually is for the Council's official Christmas card .. so Andrews would be more suitable. Depends how the public vote though (and how many friends you have..LOL).

There was a very good one (discussed earlier) looking down the main path of the Coppice of people sledging. Not the one that got into the semi-final which was similar. Must say, if this had popped up in the final, would have had to be fair and vote for that one.
