to improve your soil you'll need plenty of compost or well rotted horse manure.

if you go that way spuds are the best crop to use to improve your soil.

as you have to dig to put the seeds in, earth them up, weed round them and then dig them out that breaks up the soil

actually i ordered a compost bin yesterday, so if i start on it soon i should have some nice compost for next years potato's :D cheers Bernard :D

We usually grow sprouts, onions, garlic cabbage and cauliflower but admit in the ground not in tubs, carrot's we have never had a lot of luck with and parsnip are hit or miss, we also grow tomatoes, but we do have a green house, my daughter has grown tomatoes using a grow bag outside and had a reasonable crop I think a lot depends on the weather,

Re: growing your own veggies

You need to put 1/2 bucket of good soil in as well, it will contain the bacteria you need to turn it into proper compost. If you come across any worms chuck them in as well.

Hi, Potatoes are supposed to be planted on Good Friday, but as this is different each year, they may be affected by frost.
