John and Franco ran it for him and Chris' daughter Tina worked there too! I used to go in every saturday for my dinner with my mum and dad and became good friends with all of them. Shame it isn't like that now. |
Re: Years Gone By
wow lots of nostalga and memories on this thread.
who remembers the EJ Riley shop which was opposite Argos on Little Blackburn Road I used to go in most Saturdays to add to my subuteo collection( which I've still got 35 plus years later). I remember Woolworths being in an L shape and in the Union Street bit they had the fresh meat counters I think the demolition of Ken Cleggs on bull Bridge and the pub next to it was the early 80's rather han the early 60's Does anybody remember the cafe that the bus drivers used in the market hall that you accessed from the bus inspectors office it was always a haze of blue smoke but the meals were really good and cheap from what I remember as a kid On another thread somebody mentioned there being a bar on the peel street side of the bus station next to the newsagents, it rings a slight bell but can anybody recall it's name |
Re: Years Gone By

Re: Years Gone By
Was born on Croft St and used to go to the papershop next to the Black Bull on Bull bridge. Can't quite recall who owned it but he there for years. Funny thing is we got our papers from there and I delivered from another papershop and the lad that had the same round I took his families papers PMSL now at thought.
Had my 1st legal pint in Black Bull with my Dad in 1973 and the Drill Hall was still going as was the factory across the road. When on the buses used to have to come under the viaduct from the Dill Hall or Church Kirk run and if empty shoot off up King St and to dept but there was usally someone on for the town centre LOL :tongueout |
