Re: Any old AM CB radio users out there?
Thanks for the link Jambutty. I drove a preganant roller skate back then.
I dont ever remember those 18 & 19 codes but there was a 13 code (insults). Were you a breaker too? |
Re: Any old AM CB radio users out there?
I was a breaker but wasn’t a prolific ratcheter. Once you get home from work the CB wasn’t at the head of the list of things to do.
I spent most of my air time DX’ing at weekends. I was Jambutty for that but Green Flash for domestic copies. My ‘wrapper’ was a Short Nosed Henry (Ford Escort) and it was green. I had a Black Shadow side band rig with 80 channels and a 10w kicker for DX’ing. I used to have a silver rod but the local council made me take it down so I put a DX twig in the loft but it wasn’t as good for long distance copies. A 25w burner to compensate upset my neighbours with TVI. Once FM came in I sold my AM rig and gave FM a whirl for a while but it just wasn’t the same. Too many ‘planks’ so I called it quits. I’ve still got my old FM rig, Turner power mic, ATU, twigs, PSU etc. tucked away even though CB is unlikely to ever come back. |

Re: Any old AM CB radio users out there?
All my gear AM & FM got nicked in a burglary in '86, and the cheeky lads came back within 7 days for the ariel. I had an AM Cobra with high and low band on either side of the 'straight 40' as well as a legal FM 40.
They were happy days - not surprised at the frequency close down - replaced by boards like this and chat rooms - technology/time marches on :) |
Re: Any old AM CB radio users out there?
I had a Cobra too, although the exact spec is lost in the mists of time. I was home based in Hazzard county, went by the handleof Bookie's Runner and did the Martholme Grange thing and an eyeball at a pub on Thwaites Road. Sweet heaven the Tshirts with everyone's handle...., the orangeboom, the lack of deoderised bodies it's all coming back to haunt me. Will have to go and lie down now 66's & 88's, 10/10 till we do it again.

Re: Any old AM CB radio users out there?
I had a Sommerkamp TS788DX (Coffee Warmer) 100w output and continuous frequency coverage from 26 to 30 Mhz. This probably was an introduction to amateur radio which in a way spurred me on to enrol at Accy college for the City and Guilds Radio Amateurs Examination in 1985 and then in 1988 I passed the morse code test and obtained the full amateur radio licence.

Re: Any old AM CB radio users out there?
hi folks, new to this site so i hope i ve got the right place, i use to be on the cb radio back in the 80s when i was 13 (now 41), use to have a superstar 360 fm with all the mods, super super low to super super high, and running 200 watts, loved the am cb days i wish it would come back, as i made so many friends, communication is not the same today, as you dont meet up with people you talked to, any way what is the score on the cb radio, is it still active ?, or is it all gone.

Or how about a couple of Hygain 5's with switchable squeeky bleep. All with UK 1-40 modded using eproms written by myself :) |
Re: Any old AM CB radio users out there?
An old AM cber died this week. Some of you may remember 'Pirate', a SuperB taxi driver, who was a regular attender at the meets of Khyber Good Buddies at the Sett End.
