And on top of that, a good cobbled street enhances the intrinsic value of any house on which it stands. It both looks good and it feels good.

It's just a shame that that fact has not got through to the idiots in HBC.

Just out of interest, Talented, I notice that ANZAC day this year falls on Easter Monday. Will you get an extra day off in lieu? I expect that you will, which will mean only two days at work before you're on another holiday for the wedding of your future King & Queen. Knowing you lot, you'll probably take a months holiday - lovely! Still, I expect you'll need it for all the clearing up you will have to do after the poor weather you've had.

Why did they tarmac them?
Was it the in thing to do as it happened in most places?

I,m always on holidays now that I,m retired.....but yep....the workers get 4 or 5 days.......

They tarmaced Union Road in Ossy over 50 years ago, side streets a bit longer, remember when I was a lad sitting on the kerb edge pulling up the tar they used to fix the stone sets when it was warm it seeped into the gutters, the old lady must have used pounds of butter getting the stuff of my clothes and me

I wonder the same, I would have thought to make travelling in cars easier, so why when they decided on traffic calming didn't they remove the Tarmac instead of putting ridiculously large humps on top?

That would have been too easy Less and wouldn't cost enough

I suspect not many people can put cobbles/setts down now. Its much easier to use tarmac when you have a water leak or need to install pipes cables etc. They have still not repaired the setts at the top of Rhyddings Street at the park gates. Probably trying to find old Bert who can still do it

I remember when Lime Road was done in setts, with perhaps half a dozen cars parked there!

Tarmac has no character and as for the number of cars!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I think the owner of the house behind Speedway Garage is going in for some kind of car-parking world record!)
