Post What/Who's the best ISP

Any recommendations on a good ISP, I am on AOL now and never been happy with them, my 12 month broadband contract is now up and I am looking for a new one. Anyone on with Pipex? heard some good reports about this service from work.
No cable available at my house, and dont want freeserve or BT

I'm with pipex. Have been for years. Dialup first then broadband. Only ever had one problem, helpline sorted me very quickly (they actually knew what a computer was), and they are slightly cheaper than BT, AOL etc..

Post Re: What/Who's the best ISP

I started off with Airtime in Blackburn - about 9 years ago - then went onto BT - and then got ticked off with them. Now I am on NTL broadband - and have been for two years.

Broadband at the moment is not the cheapest option, but I have found that no matter what time of day or night (like 2.30am ) NTL are there and they do know what they are talking about.

If you are thinking of upgrading from 56K to broadband then you might consider the 128 NTL option before going for the full 512 option with them.

If you want some more information about broadband in this area then you might consider going to have a look at the East Lancs Chamber of Horrors web site.

http://www.chamberelancs.co.uk/

Just a thought.

Cheers

I`ve come in late on this one but I have recently changed to www.freeukisp.co.uk and found them to be very reliable, and fast on the connections with no cut offs, I am only using their dial-up service but they also do broadband 8)

hey Fangio
sorry but you have the speeds wrong ntl broadband speeds are
150k 600k 1mb
price 150k = £17:99
600k = £24:99
1mb = £34:99
and i agree with you they are very good
the only problem is its not in every area
i have been with NTL broadband about 10 monthes and only had 1 problem with them but that was there server which was soon back .
i would never go back to dial up

Decided to go with Pipex, will be changing over the Xmas period.
Below is a test I did between Aol, Ntl, Freeserve,Pipex, NDO and BT
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/isps/com...action=Compare
Speed and reliability are the most important to me,Pipex and NDO came out tops.

The best IP in the area; for DSL connections has to be 'zen'

though zen use BT's lines - their contention ratio (number of users per server) is guarenteed to be considerably lower - making them the premier isp for ADSL 512k - 2Mb lines

zen has a 50:1 contention ratio.  not that brilliant

Also after reading this http://www.zen.co.uk/policies/aup.asp

I wouldn't touch zen with a barge pole as there are no limits set in the boradband packages so it is up to them to decide the limits whenever they want and they nuke your account if you go over these undisclosed limits.

Sneaky. Give them a miss. zen=cowboys

For those of you on NTL Broadband they have just brought out a new package.
NTL is offering access to premium broadbant content,
including music, games, and education, for a fixed monthly fee.
The broadband Plus service costs £3:99 a month and provides unlimited access to 15 partner sites,
many of which would require subscription
new and existing customers will receive the service free of charge until 1 march 2004.
ntl's maximum download limit is 1Gb a day will still apply
you must have NTL's 600k or 1mb service to get this check out there site on

Hello,

A friend pointed out this post, and I felt obliged to respond to correct any misconceptions about how Zen operate.

This is the standard contention ratio provided on all of BT's IPStream product range. However, Zen's own network is uncontended, so our own network has more than enough bandwidth to spare.

There are no limits set because we do no believe in imposing bandwidth limits on our customers. To say we 'nuke' an account is completely false. To date we have never terminated a connection for the reasons you describe. As we operate an uncontended network a customer can 'max-out' their ADSL connection 24/7 and it would make no difference to our service. The section I believe your are referring to is a standard entry in any ISP terms and conditions, relating to activity that results in service degradation to all users (see www.pipex.co.uk for a similar declaration).

Zen have existed since 1995 and are a well recognised and respected ISP. We have received numerous awards and are consistently shown to be amongst the top 10 fastest ADSL ISPs in independent testing (rated first for February and March this year). Our Technical Support, Reliability and Customer Service are also rated very highly. You can compare our service to other providers at this independent site:

Re: What/Who's the best ISP

Been with Zen for 12mths now on a 512k connection. They activated my line within 3 days of receiving my order. I have never had any cause to contact them and have never had a time when I could not connect or had a slow service.

If you take time to read the customer service survey on www.adslguide.org.uk you will find that they consistently come top for both speed and support.

Keep up the good work Zen!

and no I don't work for them!
