Re: Up date windows 8
Oh my did you try windows 8 consumer preview? If my phone hadn't of busted I would have made a video for my blog to demonstrate what is possibly the weirdest windows system Microsoft have created.
I guess the whole idea is touch screen. I loved my HTC sensation phone before It broken. I don't have a tablet(or ipad) generally they look cool for what they are but I don't like the idea touch screen revolution taking over desktop pcs. I cannot imagine myself sat here now using my screen instead of a mouse. So I installed windows 8 consumer preview right before I reinstalled my Linux system hoping to dual boot with Win8CP NB** Wow what a confusion. Windows7 is pretty much a perfect operating system compared to others they released(though I mainly use linux) Windows 8 introduces the metro style or whatever they call it. Its pretty confusing to say the least. It feels like a tablet thing to me. On a touch screen tablet I think this would probably be great. You can get the the win7 desktop up though but it seems you have to constantly go back to the metro start screen. Wow it is totally weird for a Microsoft product. So much of a change I don't think people are going to like it much. But its only a preview version and in no way represents the full product. But its nice of them to allow you to install a preview to see if you are going to like it. But I would recommend if you want to try it that you download the ISO burn it on DVD(or create usb installer) make a partition on your hard drive and install it. This way you will get dual boot 7 and 8. I think it might be a pain for people to get their 7 systems back using the installer-- not sure about this. Another option is to try it on a spare PC. NB** note that if you use linux and windows dual boot. Its not so easy to get the dual boot working with the autoinstaller that unbuntu provides(this may be due to I use ubuntu12.04beta1) I have kinda managed(i cheated) it but I have to go in bios to switch to w8 |
Re: Windows Eight
Vista was an mistake and 7 was the rectification of that mistake hehe
I just wrote about 8 in another post. I seem to be dual posting a lot lately :) Windows 8 is..... well it is crazy. Still its the 'consumer preview' I was using. I think I shall stick to Linux for everyday usage. It is a much better experience. Though I still like 7. I have 7 on my HTPC/XBMC to save hassle with driver problems. Quote:
If your pc is old try installing a lite version of linux. (if you dont need too man windows apps that is) |
Re: Windows Eight
Thanks for the info Restless from what you've said don't think I'll be dashing out to get Windows 8 I'll stick with 7

Re: Windows Eight
When I can make a video I will. Watching a MSN video will make it look great-- You really need to see it in action.

Re: Windows Eight
I like 7....hated Vista......I have it on a laptop and I hate using the laptop because Vista is so unfriendly to users.
Don't see me getting Windows 8 anytime soon. |

Re: Windows Eight
It isn't problems with Vista...well, not what you could call problems.......it is just not user friendly........hard to navigate, memory hungry. I liked XP......I have used all the ohter John.....95,98,2000ME........never stuggled to find my way about with any of them, but Vista is the pits. When my ship comes in I will ditch the damn thing and get Windows 7.

I got a really nice little netbook with Windows 7 on for £250 recently. I agree with you, Vista is the pits - and so does my Richard, who actually knows about these things... |

That is probably what I will do.........buy a new one I mean. The tinlids will probably fight over the old one. I'm glad someone else found Vista a right pain in the butt. I didn't like it from the moment I switched it on, but it was a present from himself so I couldn't say too much(well, I could have, but it wouldn't have done much good - and he did think he was doing something really good). As for my ship coming in....all that comes in for me is the tide! :) |
Re: Windows Eight
Vista is the disease and 7 was the cure :D

Re: Windows Eight
M$ should provide it for free for you having to have put up with vista for so long
Upgrades(which in my opinion is a rip off and rubbish-- really you want the physical media) Home Premium £99 Professional £189 Ultimate £199 Full version Home Premium £149 Professional £219 Ultimate £229 These are M$'s official UK prices. You could buy it cheaper elsewhere perhaps? What gets me if the difference in price between professional and ultimate. Why bother with prof and just pay £10 more |
Re: Windows Eight
What gets me is the massive price difference between Home Premium and Ultimate.
Here is a link showing that for most people Home Premium is fine unless I am missing something http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/w...oducts/compare |
