Did Young actually put a foot right all night to me he should have been one taken off, but they were second best for most of the game so going out on pens wasn't quite as hard to take as usual, but the Eyeties hadn't read the script its usual 0-0 after extra time England go out to Germany on penalties:D

You're right about the penalties. It would been embarrassing and an injustice had we won the penalty shootout.

I dunno ... I've got a different take on the game ... maybe because they showed a different version of the game in the colonies; or maybe I've been watching too much hockey for 45 years;) England, considering the off field bs problems, and having a manager that not too many folks had any respect for, did a damn fine job. Significantly better than the Netherlands for example. That defence looked fantastic ... all they need to do now is develope a break away type of play ... you guys might know the players who could do this ... then England will be a team to be feared ... This type of football might not be pretty to watch, but it will win games.

Knickers Eric, All they need to do is "Learn how to Keep the ball" when in possesion, instead of giving it away, That shouldn't be too difficult? These players are reckoned to be International standard.

Hodgson did very well in a short space of time IMHO, But to take us one step further, fer me he needs to learn em the basics of football, They aint on the same wavelength as the better sides, during his short spell at the helm, i have seen possibilities to do so, If not we will remain as also rans.;)

Re: Euro 2012

This is only my opinion mind, but I think a lot of the problem is that damned Premier League ... the owners take the short cut to making money by buying foreign talent and paying them the big bucks, rather than developing young English talent. You can't tell me that Italian kids, or German kids are "racially" more talented than English kids. Take a lesson from us dumb colonials. The Stanley Cup winning L.A. Kings had fifteen Canadians on their team. That's 'cause in Canada, youngsters start playing organized hockey before they are weaned. Boys and girls. There are more women in organized hockey in Canada than there are in the rest of the world put together! Look at Italy ... look at their major teams ... most of the players playing on them are Italian! Now take a look at the big "English" sides ... and go figure, eh.

Given the short time he has been in charge I think he did OK - but for one point. Most of the players play in teams that pass short and quick with the occasional long diagonal pass - why was Hart and some of the defence booting it long. Even if an England player got to it first there was no support for him.
There was a great need for a midfield architect - another Scholes or similar, Gerrard & Parker had to be too defensive to be able to control the game so for long periods we were without the ball.
Whatever happened to the ruling that there could only be so many foreign players in a team?

Think I can agree about the long ball Barrie, but if he was going to play that way he should have started with Carroll from the start, at least he can hold the ball up and we looked more dangerous when he came on, the things is we had no answer to Pirlo, we needed somebody snapping at his heels every time he got the ball not giving him a free roll to stroll though the middle of the park time after time

Na Carroll and Rooney in a 4-4-2 formation, would have worked for me, young Welbeck just couldn't hold the ball up, although he has some nice touches he looked a bit out of his depth on Sunday

Nope, not at all fella I married one. And the reason I'm still over here along with plenty of other ex-servicemen is because I & they decided it was a better option than what was on offer at the time in UK, the way of life, job opportunities, travel.

I mean I can get in the car & drive to any of the following, Holland, Belgium, France (not that I'd want to mind) Luxembourg, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland or Denmark, all within anything from 45 minutes to several hours (pretty much like the Krauties of old really but without the Armour). ;)

Don't get me wrong England is my home & it's always nice to come back to visit, but I've settled here now (at the time of writing, 28 years in Country) but being an "Englander in the Fatherland" is quite good. One day I'll up sticks & head back to Blighty .............. maybe.

A very tedious match cashy, only came to life in extra time, and again the ref was pants, Spain just shaded it, but could have gone out in the lottery which is penalties, why the hell did Portugal get licked 4-2 on pens and twinkle toes didn't even take a kick utter stupidity, the guy that miss the last pen never looked like scoring he even got the order mixed up, should have sent Ronaldo up before him

I really enjoyed the England - Italy match -apart from the gloating i had to put up with from my son and husband when we lost! I thought England were unlucky not to have scored during normal time especially at the beginning ...I do think they need to brush up on their penalty kicking though.

Last nights match was one of the worst i've seen so far -was expecting much more from Spain.

Italy - Germany tonight -should be a thriller. They're all excited over here about it.
Don't think of Italy as my second team - personally i fancy Germany to win it with a few goals scored by either side. Maybe 3-2. Can't say that here though!!:D

Well Mo - the Pundits (Linneker and co on the BBC) had a lot of answers. But the German defence was abismal - after Balotelli scored the 1st one they didn't mark him bla bla! The German gave it away.

It was an good game though - the Pundits reckon Germany lost because the German manager changed the tactics!:rolleyes:

Agreed! Spain ran rings round Italy and gave them a real trouncing. We were watching at a friends house -big screen, pizza and prosecco, lots of Italians...they took it well - knew they were out-classed.

Prandelli made some selection mistakes - Chiellini and Cassano weren't fit to be in the team -used his 3 substitutions stupidly because of this and they ended up only having 10 men. Didn't use Diamante and some others who were in great shape....

May find out more insider stuff later this week - Prandelli's brother-in-law has a horse here with us and comes riding most days! He was at the final -no doubt sick as a dog!

What a great match, Spain were really geared up for it, the first thing they did was cut Pirlo out of the game, stop their engine it its tracks then systematically tore um to bits, they've certainly got the right formula, that's 3 major tournaments in a row the first time this has ever happened. Can they make it 4 at the world cup in two years time, I for one wouldn't bet against it

Doubt there wouldn't have been any excuses if Italy had won, they know the score before they set of for a tournament they had 23 players, just like Spain, and how a professional footballer becomes tired after playing 5 matches in three weeks is beyond me, given the financial rewards they receive as well, just wonder how these poor lambs would manage doing a full 40 hours shift at work then turning out on a saturday afternoon for a game:rolleyes:
