He is trying to get his foot in the door - you cannot deny that.
Politicians only talk to who they want to talk to & where they can find an opportunity to big up themselves.

I am not saying that, my point is that my view of politicians - caused by past experience - is that they only do things for themselves, when they should be working on behalf of the people.

You come across as an admirer of David Cameron & to see him in the same light as I perhaps see Noel Gallagher or Johnny Marr - which is how my remark was intended.

Thought you might find this interesting, Wynonie - i watched an interview on youtube with Johnny Marr (guitarist & musical genius behind smiths) the other day, and he revealed that his & Morrissey's songwriting partnership was born on a shared love of The Marvelettes!
Is that not the strangest influence a band like that could have or what!

MUst admit, Shakey, I can't see the connection. However, to get back to the original point of this thread...Blair is a phoney who tried to leap on the hip, trendy, pop bandwagon in '97, but made a fool of himself in the process. Now, Cameron, another phoney, is trying to do the same. Everyone can see right through him (apart from Cyfr who lives on Mars). But why do we need some pop magazine to tell us all this? We know it already!

And I STILL say that none of 'em know what REAL rock 'n' roll is!

I saw him on Jonathon Ross last night and actually think he came over quite well. He seemed relatively sincere which I have to say Blair never does.

The one thing that amused me though was his answer to the war questions. When I was standing for local election one of the things that people used against me was Blair taking us to war. Some even said that they would vote Conservative simply because of that. Cameron said last night that he also actually voted for the war and given that decision would have made the exact same one as Blair.

I bring this up not because I want a great debate on the war or the similarities between the two leaders but because I don't think it is a thing that can be used against Labour in favour of the Conservatives when they too supported it.

The thing with Blair is, I think a lot of people supported the war ... like in america, (although more americas supported it than british) anyway... the way the war has turned out is what Blair has been judged on.... Although i guess thats not really his fault, but they need someone to blame :)

Yes, but my point is that really people should not use it as a deciding point between Blair and Cameron as they both made the same decision.

Lesser of two evils. We know Blair is duplicitous. We only think Cameron is...although I'm sure he'll prove to be so.

Could always vote for the other parties, if those two really are evil, then I would have thought people vote for someone else, I certainly wouldn't vote for someone whome i thought was evil.

Yeah Gayle, they shouldn't judge between Labour and Tories on the war. :D

Because, Cameron's minime; more people trust in the fake persona the conservative leader puts forward with his Blair-wannabe-ism, than people who believe that Labour is the way forward.

There isn't really much option at the moment other than vote for the main two parties - I suppose we could consider the one with the name like a chinese vase but what exactly are they about at the moment (they seem to have vanished).

When the general election comes along we'll be making the decision between the two leaders but I'm a bit worried for Hyndburn if that happens. We happen to have a very good local MP in Greg Pope, he really cares about his constituents and works very hard at a local level with them (and yes, I know he's not on every other page in the paper telling us that he's doing this like other people do, he's just getting on with it). I just hope that people vote locally although I suspect that people will be swayed by the two leaders - it's hard not to be.

That's an interesting point, Gayle, but would you do the same if the boot was on the other foot? The last time I lived in Accy, Ken Hargreaves was our MP. I thought he was excellent MP - a local lad who cared about his constituents, rather than making a name for himself in Parliament. He certainly went out of his way to help me when I had a problem that needed sorting out. Now, you may not agree with my assessment of him but just say you did for the sake of argument, would you have been prepared to "vote locally"?

I know, it's a really tough thing to do but yes, I would. I have voted for different parties in the past (admittedly never Conservative and not recently) if I've thought that person could be of help to the community.

I did think that the Conservatives fielded an interesting candidate for the last general election (apart from his bizarre views on euthanasia) but as Greg was in the job I felt he should be given the opportunity to continue so voted for Greg. Why fix it if it ain't broke?

However, what will happen next time is that people will not be voting for Greg or James (or whoever they put up) but will be voting for Blair or Cameron. Hopefully, Greg's majority here is sufficient to hold the seat but other more marginal seats will go.
