Noun1.rock'n'roll - a genre of popular music originating in the 1950s; a blend of black rhythm-and-blues with white country-and-western; "rock is a generic term for the range of styles that evolved out of rock'n'roll."

Well after reading the dictionary definition my money's on Cashy 'n' Wynonie.;)

Pov?

Your 'pov'?

Can't see that in any dictionary.

Once you've been a member of the forum for longer than a few days, you'll realise people agree, and disagree, about many different subjects.

In this debate I happen to agree with Cashman and Wynonie...and think that you're a plank.;)

Gobby newbies, don't ya just love 'em?

Next someone will be mentioning the Mafia.:D

Are you being deliberately obtuse, Waterwall, or just it just come naturally? Far from backing up your point of view (or pov to you), the dictionary definition actually refutes your point of view - ie "rock is a generic name for a range of styles that evolved OUT OF rock 'n' roll." So Led Zeppelin are a rock band, not a rock 'n' roll band. So, to return to my original point, there's no point nominating them as the greatest rock 'n' roll band. Savvy?

As for Beechy's point about you walking round the circle up the con (an ancient Accy tradition of which you would know nothing), a smart alec like you wouldn't have lasted five minutes, as there were some likely lads who had VERY definite ideas about what constituted rock 'n' roll (and most of 'em were mates of Cashy's!).

Still, no one can tell you anything, you obviously know it all, so just carry on parading your ignorance about the roots of the music you purport to play. You've certainly made yourself a laughing stock on here. :D

Thanks for the explanation of 'pov', and that it's an acronym. Though an acronym usually has those helpful little dots after the letters, which serve as a clue.

I was begining to wonder if 'pov' was short for poverty (of intellect).

Rock on.:D

see the funny thing is, all ive done is say i play rock n roll and that i call zeppelin rock and roll. your snooty attitude doesn't change my mind.

the real know it alls are the ones im arguing with and youre beginning to steam out of your ears with frustration just because a young rocker like myself isn't interested in your anal guide lines to te history of rock n roll. im aware of the origins, im aware of the evolution, but unfortunatey for you i don't adhere to your rules of how YOU think it should be. and it doesnt matter how many of your buddies come and back you up (as internet cliques so often do!!!! dont we know!!!), ive hung out with enough tried and tested musicians far more learned than yourselves to know this pompous attitude is not just an age thing (been there done this before).

....and to play is out...here's adolf and the goosesteppers...with "its only rock and roll but i dont like it when you haven't got your trivia book facts EXACTLY in order"...

Well I've read through all the posts in this thread and although my knowledge of music is by no means limited my own area is the 60's.

I have however known Cashy for quite some time and am happy to admit that he knows a lot more than I.
Wynnonie has always impressed me with his superior knowledge of all aspects of music and I have learned much. But then I'm not a smarty pants.
Read and learn you're never to old.:theband:

By the way ,Forgot to mention that I do know the difference between Rock-n-Roll and Rock, but I can live with most styles of music as I'm not blinkered.
