Since some of were born before pop charts were invented, I suggest we say what was the 1st pop tune you remember - nursery rhymes dont count

Mine was 'How much is that doggie in the window' (the one with the waggly tail......)

The first record that I bought was Via Condios by Les Paul and Mary Ford or it might have been Swedish Rhapsody by Mantovani. I bought them both at the same time and I can’t remember which was handed over first.

Les Paul was the first artist to do multi tracking on a record. I understand that it was six tracks dubbed into one.

But during the war back in the early forties I played, almost to destruction, a record named “The Laughing Policeman” by Charles Penrose. It sold over one million copies.

Firmly in my childhood memories are songs such as Big Rock Candy Mountain sung by Burl Ives.

Oh the buzzing of the bees in the cigarette trees
The soda water fountain
And the lemonade springs where the bluebird sings
On big rock candy mountain.
