Cart on Stanley - New Music Track

I was handed this CD last night to play on the PA system - which I did a couple of times. What did you think of it? The title is "Cart on Stanley". I didn't meet the guy who produced it - it was handed into the club shop.

Any thoughts????

Couldn't hear it properly over the tannoy, but what I did hear didn't sound too bad. It was a big improvement on the previous cd.

I liked it. Why doesn't the club sort something out with the guy to make it commercially available via the club shop?

I didn’t hear it to well because of the noise everyone was making. The rest of it disappeared out where the "F in Roof" should be. :D

Seriously. I thought it was good although I did miss bits because of the noise. Any chance of uploading it as a sound file so we can give it a fair appraisal. :)

The reason it is not as good now as it was at the Rovers match is because the cordless mic which cost £200+ has been lost, and I am using a goodmans cheapo kids' karaoke mic that the club provides. I will bring my own on Saturday and see if there is an improvement.

Thanks for pointing it out. If I don't know - I can't rectify it!!!

It's not just your voice we can't hear, we can't hear the music either. Is there no way to turn the music up on the Clayton End? I know the Main Stand contigent aren't too keen on loud music, but a lot on the Clayton End would appreciate louder music before kick-off and during half-time.

I got there early, and I thought "Cart On Stanley" was brilliant. Is there any way us common folks can get hold of it, such as club shop? I think it could become a terrace anthem.

Cart on means roughly carry on regardless. Not surprisingly Brewers dictionary of Phrase and Fable offers no further enlightenment where this phrase originates and Google offers nothing either. I suspect though its either a Lancashire or Yorkshire expression. Any other offers?

Re: Cart on Stanley - New Music Track

I think the phrase 'Cart On' may well refer to the years after the second world war when men would often be seen out and about roaming the countryside, going into farms seeking work, generally all they owned would be stacked on a push or pull cart that went everywhere with them.

My reference point for this is from the James Herriot books, where he mentions about such characters being frequently seen across the yorkshire dales.

Cart on is a Lancashire phrase.

it means carry on with the work you are doing.

example:-

2 men digging a trench, 1 stops and starts talking , 2nd one says "stop thee camping (talking) lad and cart on or we'll nair be dun for tay time":)

Anyway back to the song, I think its great what I've heard of it. To anybody who is a singer on the terrace, just turn it up full and imagine the chant. Its got longevity IMHO. Nope. That was the old Stanley song, On Stanley On, sung accompanied by a brass band if I remember correctly.

The Accrington Go song was a song done by the (deceased?) Norwegian Supporters Club. I think victory was pronounced wiktory in the song. ;)

I thought that on-line "piracy" issues in regard to things like MP3s etc only applied if no consent for downloading has been given by the originator of the material who would after all be the holder of any possible copyright.

However if Celtic Cross decideded that they wanted Cart on Stanley freely available on the net then they would be perfectly entitled to do so and we would be entitled to download it without infringing on any other party.

There are after all a lot of sites where bands post music for free downloading hoping that they may reach the attention of those who will be able to further their careers.

Just a thought

Re: Cart on Stanley - New Music Track

Hello

Firstly I`d like to say thanks to everyone who has been listening, and who have picked up on the Cart On Stanley Song.
When I found this forum and saw what everyone was saying I was like Amazed.
I wrote this song as one writer says A Bright New Song for a Bright new era of Stanley.
The aim was to give the stanley crowd a song of their own that when sung in unison would rival the kop who`s singing someone elses song anyway.
This song words and music would be original and personal to Stanley.
A lot of people write in not knowing what Cart On means and I`m surprised cos I`m a Ribble Valley Woollyback who`s only lived in Accrington for twenty years, but for 19.9 I`ve know the phrase.
The gentleman with the travelling workman has the origin correct but as for its meaning and context in the song its literally as its used in speech today i.e To Go Ahead, Give it a shot.
It can be used as an encouragement to someone down or as an applaud to someone doing well.
I`m sorry if it`s a bit too ey up for you kids out there but we`re Stanley from Lancashire we`ve got lancashire accents and you`re only wearing crap yankee baseball hats cos you cant get decent flat caps these days.
It also fits nicely with Eric`s Box Co.
It has intentionally comical connotations (whatever that spells) (Sorry for saying Exactly we couldn`t help it) other teams can`t deride us cos we`re prepaped to laugh at our selves, as any truly centred human being should. But the song also celebrates the long and eventful history of the club and also calls for unity in support of the glorious goal. It`s Stanley`s first season back in the league and anyone with their eyes open knows its gonna be tough to live with but if the crowd are united in belief and are raising their hearts and voices in support it`s the momentum that the team are going to need.

At the end of the day it`s an honest supporters song with no bull, everyword is true. Exactly (sorry again)

Anway what most people want is to get hold of this for themselves.
At the moment you can get just a sample clip from our website
Someone has posted a link to the clip already but ofishially here it is Again
http://www.celticcross.co.uk/news/stanley.htm
on this page you will find the middle third of the song and a complete lyric.
The 1st third and last third just have the same bits with the other verses sung over.
I kept it pretty simple so as many people as poss could pick it up quick.
You should be able to cobble it together if they keep playing it at half time.
In the near future we hope to release this on a CD hopefully featuring some other tracks currently under construction. These we hope to feature Stanley Chants past present and future over some nice beaty tunes. (If Ultras or Stanley Diehards have any ideas we would love to include them. Remember it`s a family CD (My 2 yr old daughter leaps around the room to Cart On and plays it repeatedly - Thats my girl !)

If everything gets the full approval and support of the club we will announce a release date and hopefully do a gig for U.
It would be nice if the whole Stanley crowd bought it in the first week as that would make it chart. Even if we never sold another copy we would have infected the nation with "Cart On Stanley, Cart ON"
Maybe we`d even raise some funds from people buying it inTorquay (not forgetting my considerable slice as musical genius) No Charades its what I do for a livin. (Hours - Anti-social, Pay - Poor)
It`d be a laugh anyway.

If you wanna hear us playing live have a look at the live dates on out website, we`ve also got lots of other COMPLETE songs to download there, pictures and info if you want to book us.

OMG is that the time. I`ll look back here soon if there`s any more questions.
Keep the Faith

Firstly, thanks for all the info in your post, and good luck, but I'm intrigued by the term "Cart On".

I've only lived in Lancashire for 45 years, but have never heard it, ever. Nobody I know has ever heard it, including a couple of real local historians and Accy lads from birth, and older than me.

when it takes hold it should be good, as Zero said, it is a tune and lyrics unique to Stanley and is good enough to sing. Repeateable lyrics, very learnable, child friendly, able to be sung loudly.

Update time for the growing posse off Cart on Lovers

We had an 8 hour session today (Sun) and finished the recording of "I love the smell of Accy in the morning" I will put the lyrics up on the Celtic Cross website as soon as I can so you`ll know what the blinking heck I`m on about (When the only morning I see is 0.00am to 5 or 6am)
This is a nice light acoustic song designed to appeal to people who might find the other 2 a bit heavy or punk rock, It`s also very quirky and catchy (But unfortunately still has that same crap singer, can someone have a word with Elton while at Watford)
We also got the Trumpet down for a slightly corrupted ring of fire intro to "Stanley`s Back". This now needs Bass and Guitar to be had on Wed and a weekend session should see off the vocals. From there mixdown will be done through the week and hopefully by that time we will already have a production firm selected and just be wondering where the bloomin heck the money`s gonna come from to actually do it.

Every post in this forum truly delights me and I want to thank you all again for your comments (Oh except Timmins of course)

Re: Cart on Stanley - New Music Track

OK had a good session with Bryan tonight (Wed) Oooh Er !
Bass and Guitars now recorded for Stanley`s Back and sonding great (even if I do say so myself) This song is gonna go down great with people who love evil guitars and probably scare the sit out of some of the more elderly members of the fan base. But the following acoustic should be more up their street.
I`ve been madly chopping away at some of Dan`s match commentaries to use as samples in "SB", Dan has given the go ahead for their use as long as 2BR agree. I`ve done a pure Wrexham version which wont be the released version (It`s just too cruel) but I may put it somewhere after the single comes out.
I`ve been checking up some replication costs and hoping for a release on 21st Oct for the Walsall Home game as there isn`t another for nearly a month after that.
If anyone knows any good sources for CD replication, especially who might do it a bit cheaper for the sake of some good advertising, Please let me know.
I`m looking at an initial run of 3000 1 colour on body print onto white, Slimline jewel case (Not J card type) with 4pp booklet printed only 1 and 4, and barcodes if poss, shrink wrap not necessary (I think you`ll agree).
OK shame about the outcome of the Watford game but surely now we must be the proudest team in League 2.
Cheers

Here`s the latest update on the Cds progress.

We had a mighty session again this Sunday and 99.9% of the recording is done. We also did a mixdown of "I love the smell of Accy in the morning" visit our newspage @ http://www.celticcross.co.uk/news/stanley.htm to download or listen to a sample. There you will find the lyrics to all 3 songs now on a separate page, a tactical explanation of the chants in "Stanley`s Back" will follow.

OK

OK Bambinos lets Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrock este noche !

Recording and mixdown is complete ! and as I type the master is winging its way to Hi-Fi Copies in Bristol for replication, this looks well on schedule to meet the Oct 21st release date I was hoping for so dont forget to take an extra 3 quid to the Walsall game.
For now why not nip over to http://www.celticcross.co.uk/news/stanley.htm and check out the new samples and ringtones I have posted.
No news back about a live appearance yet, If anyone wants us to do it then why not get on The Clubs case at the soonest possible opportunity i.e. the Wycombe (Why Comb? my precise policy on hair) Game on saturday.
If anyone wants to see us before that we`ll be at the Castle Pub in Clitheroe this Friday, @ the Plough Fielding lane Ozzy on Wed 11th and the Albion at Clayton on Fri 27th (Oh thats after but)

Don`t forget if you`ve got got a private do, birthday, wedding, funeral etc. and you want a live band why not get in touch ? all our contact details are on our website @ http://www.celticcross.co.uk/info/infodex

Will you be eligable for the charts if you sell the CD's yourself?
You said earlier that you wanted the record to chart.

I'll certainly try to sell a few copies before the Walsall game. Sounds simple but I'm not a music person, but can you not just stick the barcodes on any old piece of paper and then 'launder' the three quids and the barcodes through a friendly music outlet?

From my research it looks like it`s pretty much tied up by Cowellalike bigwigs to make it difficult for tinpot hooligans like our selves. You can search the internet for a lifetime and not find a clue as to how its sorted out. After about 6 hours it was doin my flippin head in and I thought Fek it. As long as we get our own sound out and raise a few quid let em listen to the same old ****e week in week out.
That said if anyone knows what it takes feel free to sort it out.
I will be sending promos to all the local radio stations and as many nationals as I think will tolerate us, then maybe people will take notice. As long as I get back the 1500 quid it`s cost me to make it everything else is a bonus, the main thing is that as many people as poss part with the 3 quid and all their friends and relations from far away and people dont start uploading the tracks for free download and **** like that cos thats gonna take money from the club (and me).
I`m still on the case anyway so if we can get as many people scoring one on the saturday we might get a chance but nowadays they count download singles towards the charts and thats pushed the envelope of how few you used to need to get in there. They change their week on saturdays as well so it would be one day and thats its. We all know how many people come to matches so we would never go platinum or anything although like I said its soooo cool the away fans will be buying them as well. If they buy enough we`ll put a roof on that end as well.
Anyway if we do sell up and have to get some more we`ll know how many we`ve turned out. We`ve been playing it at gigs from Kendal to Derby and no-one`s had a bad word to say about it so maybe it`ll exceed all expectations or maybe it`ll fall on its arse. But after the response on here, the support from the club and being thrown onto page 3 by the Observer (If I`d known we`d make page 3 I would have took me top off) I think not.
There`s bound to be an anti clan, I`ve been in the music game for 30 years and I know for every 1 that Loves you there`s 2 that hate you. If I hear the word "Cringeworthy" again I`m going to subject you to my Brown Noise experiment (Music to make you spew and S**T yourself simultaneously) How can anyone in the world say that such a gorgeous bunch of young ladies like the Stanley`s Angels are "Cringeworthy" get a f in Grip and take a masculinity check asswipe ! It`s a word that`s definitely gotta go as is worrying about what other clubs fans think, they`re obviously dicks anyway and we know better.
How did I get onto this rant when I started talking about charting the record (maybe the same way the "Stanley online store" post turned into slating the ladies by entry no 2) I`ll take over as merchandising boss if you want to buy some stuff, and I`ll reduce the prices by 50%.
I don`t think I should make posts when I`m drunk, that said the spellings not that bad.
Blah Blah that`s enough I`m off to answer the next question.
Cheers

That sounds good enough to me. I know you offered to go round with some, I`ll go round too I`m Getting 3000 so we count up how many`s left, subtract and we know how many bleeps to make. Maybe Lyndsey @ Music Zone will have something to say when she gets back off Holidays.
It would make a big impact if we could do a gig on the day so anyone who wants that get on the clubs case cos I need a definite with enough time to sort out the logistical nightmare that might ensue. UK cowboy`s gonna back us up but we`ll still need a dry run at the very least.
Anyway I still need to talk buisness with the club yet but it`ll probably down to the likes of me n U to give it the big push.

Blah blah I should go to bed I`m babysitting this morning Blah Blah

Good gig in Kendal tonight, met Tristan Savage the guy who`s idea this all was, so blame him. Played I love the smell 1st time live went down great (and Kendal FC generally hate us, we normally play at the Rugby club)

Just go to bed you incessant maniac !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For anybody wanting to come and see a live performance by Celtic Cross we will be appearing at The Farmers Glory on Blackburn Old Road, Haslingden this Wed 4th October at 9 P.M. We will definitely be playing live versions of Cart On and I love the smell. We mixed a backing track for Stanley`s Back on Monday night but It might not be performance ready by then, it mat also be a bit heavy man for the predominantly folk crowd up there.

Keep on Rockin` in the reasonably inexpensive World

Last week I sent promotional copies of the Stanley`s Back E.P. to 2BR, Radio Lancs, Red Rose and the BEE. I dont listen to radio cos I`m far too busy making music of my own. If you listen to these radios and don`t hear any airplay you could always phone in requesting tracks. They dont have the excuse of not having a copy. If you do hear it let me know by a post on here or a PM (post would let everyone know). Thanks again to everyone who keeps giving us the positive feedback.
Countdown to Bilko NOW ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Aye aye, Matt from Hi-Fi Copies here.

'Cart On Stanley' is a cracking tune, it's been stuck in me head all week.

Made up to be doing the CD, I'm Everton FC but always had a soft spot for Stanley since I was a kid (yeah, because of that advert) - I know you've got a few Scousers in the side, but can anyone tell me if any of them are Blues?

Been playing it in a couple of pubs before gigs down here, and it seems to go down right enough, especially when it gets to the end.

I'm going to get a toffee mate of mine on the radio down here to play it on his morning show as well.

Best of luck for the season - might come and see you when come down Christmas to play the Gas

Cheers

Re: Cart on Stanley - New Music Track

Hi There

Just to freshen up this post a little bit !

As you can see from the earlier post from Matt the Replication of the CD is well underway and we look almost certain to achieve the target release date of the 21st of October for the Walsall game. I`m working on the logistics of a matchday performance, I still need some extra radio gear and the blessing of the weather is tantermount. If I can test and am happy we`ll go for it. Or do I mean Cart On.
For now any budding guitarists can visit
http://www.celticcross.co.uk/news/stanleychords.htm
where you can find out how easy these songs are to play and come up with your own versions before it`s even released. (I never listen to the original when I`m making a cover)
Dont forget to phone your local radio stations for requests from the Stanley`s Back E.P.
I`ve ordered some Celtic Cross T-shirts, Red with white print I hope to bring them on the release day, support your local scruff pub duo and smarten yourself up with some of them (Gildan ultra cotton T durably screenprinted) For a Fiver Treaks ! I`m cutting me own froat geezah.
Yes folks it really is true that Celtic Cross CDs and T-shirts retail at just £5.
The Stanley CD will sell at £3. Which is as cheap as we can manage as you can see from the total transparency of this transaction. You do the Math we`ll do the Punk Rock !
