Re: Front Page of Tomorrows Sun Newspaper
I'm joining in with this thread a little late I know but I couldn't agree more with the Tin one. It no longer does the club any good to get drawn into these sort of stories. All it does it perpetuate the image of Accrington Stanley F.C. as a Music Hall joke.
Instead of playing along with such japes a bland "the Chairman's away on business - no comment" would kill the story there and then. Instead we'll have another round of Milk Advert crap to contend with. I simply don't agree that all publicity is good publicity. Try telling that to Gerald Ratner -In the end "mud sticks" and the club ends up with a fifth rate image in the eyes of the public and that does nothing to attract the new supporters Accringto Stanley so badly needs. |
Re: Front Page of Tomorrows Sun Newspaper
The milk commercial was shown repeatedly over a period of time in probably 99% of the homes in this country, so it lingered in the memory. The present story is featured in one newspaper for just one day. Nobody will even remember it a week from now.
What will bring supporters in is attractive football, goals and wins, combined with better spectator facilities. No amount of contrived newspaper stories can detract from that! |

Re: Front Page of Tomorrows Sun Newspaper
At first i thought it was great, superb publicity
Now, when i look in more detail, i see the terms "Lowly" and "Minnows" Dont like that one bit, and i would love to see Stanley prove them wrong against Watford |
Re: Front Page of Tomorrows Sun Newspaper
Just so you know that publicity is not always noticed I have just seen this thread and knew nothing about the story until looking on Accyweb.
Having read all threads upto Dan @ 0840 would just like to say yes it can help, yes we can have/take a joke and laugh with them, but like Dan says (or meant to I think) ASFC is no longer that happy at being the butt end for jokes!!!! The sooner the writers of these stories get used to ASFC being back in the League the better and I do hope that 1 an away win tonight 2 a win against Watford |
Re: Front Page of Tomorrows Sun Newspaper
Couldn't agree more and, in fact, that's what happened the day after the Forest match. Had a browse through the papers in the newsagents and all of them (even the gutter press) were full of praise. A win tonight and even better, a win against Watford and there'll be a lot less danger of the club becoming the butt of another silly season headline!

Re: Front Page of Tomorrows Sun Newspaper
Thats exactly what i meant, everytime we are on telly, whether it be Soccer AM, or the news, its always the same thing concerning the advert, and i for one think its getting dull
There is no doubt we will survive and maintain a respectable league position this season, and just like everyone else, hope we can get some publicity WITHOUT the help of that advert |

Re: Front Page of Tomorrows Sun Newspaper
well maybe, I, we, and the club, should all refuse to give interviews or press releases if the advert is mentioned.
"hi, good afternoon, sKY sPORTS, can we have a couple of minutes with you?" "if you're milking the situation sod off, if you call us any word that is an alternative to little sod off. Other than that what can I help you with?" |
