Thing is my Dad loves Stanley, but he isn't exactly the.... rowdy type so to speak. He wouldn't sing and he states that he prefers 'side on' view rather than goal to goal... that's why I often leave him behind :D

Typical Accy Stanley nouse - or lack of.

I can see the logic behind this, and it will be great to have a bumper crowd, but it hardly made a difference to the crap displayed at Rochdale did it?

Just a tad over 5000, but don't forget the match is segregated with Torquay expecting to bring approximately 300, which means it will not be full to capacity as the away end holds something like 1400 - so a crowd of 3900 could feasibly be expected. For those who are moaning about being season ticket holders - stop it, I am one as well but I think this gesture can increase the interest in Accrington Stanley FC despite what is happening elsewhere. I for one am in full support of the boards gesture. Even if it ups future attendances by a couple it can only be successful. And as others have said, more money for the 50/50 draw.

IS THIS THE POSITIVE THREAD - even Jimbo will have to get here early tee hee

maccawozzagod 12-03-2007 13:31

Torquay fans should be moved somewhere where they aren't wasting space.

The changing rooms should be empty from 2:55 they can all go in there!

Re: Free Admission

The season ticket holders will still have saved money regardless over the course of the season. I am also one, and think this could be one of the best decisions the club has ever made. The players will get a boost, the town will be buzzing, AccyJay will have a roaring trade :) , and 3900 people with many buying programs etc will make at least as much money as 1200 paying full whack.

Tell your friends, neighbours, distant relatives. Tell everyone!!! Stanley are making one last push for the league place we chased after for 44 years and we all have a part to play in ensuuring the FES can be lambasted by opposition fans next year.

ON STANLEY ON!!!

Re: Free Admission

Not many can afford to be short changed, Ozzy. Accrington is an area where an extra 15/10 quid can go a long way. The saving made by buying a season ticket is ever decreasing and it's a shambles.
It will be great if we get a full house against Torquay, but a great atmosphere doesn't mean the players will play any better - Rochdale anyone? I doubt future attendances will be increased at all on the basis of this offer. People will take what they can for free and then ****** off the next week when a charge comes into it.
This is a very brave decision by the club, and I believe it's too little too late. That's the last I'll say on it.

Call me a grumpy git if you want, I'm just telling it like it is.

Just a suggestion to capitilise on a good expected crowd is raising the bar with some positiveness before the match starts, like some good songs played to uplift the crowd atmosphere - hey be good to get the whole crowd buzzing to feed off to the players......dunno who does the music/tannoy nowadays but a nice set of positive anthems before the match starts:rolleyes: cart on, predict a riot etc..

Everytime i hear Ashes by Embrace it reminds me of stanley - lyrics seem to fit us lol released last year at the time we won/winning config, even england nicked it for the summer anthem lol

Nice gesture or a last ditch attempt to win over the grumbling fans. Lets remember they are the people responsible if we get docked any points that may cost us our place in the football league. Too little too late Mr Whalley, even if we stop up you should have kept your word and gone at the start of the season. :(

Excellent idea and I sincerely hope it works. However a word of caution.

Is it actually legal for you to pay nothing whilst charging away fans OR is it free to all?

Don't be suprised if the authorities question the move.

I know that the majority of MFC followers wish you well 'cause we want to play you in league 2 next season.

Have to say though that listening to Coley on the radio tonight he seems to have accepted relegation. Not the best example to set to your players.

THE VERY BEST OF LUCK.

Could the 300 not fit into the Whinney Hill shed/Coppice corner like away fans used to do? With some good publicity and good weather it should be a full house and would be a shame if an extra 1000 had to be turned away at the gates!

TM, I think you may just have hit the nail on the head. I cannot see too many coming out of the woodwork for one match, when the next will be back up to full price. Personally, I would have preferred a reduced price (say £5) for all home matches for the remainder of the season rather than one free match. cmonstanley - I have a poster in my car (and have had for every home match and also every event (eg photo exhibition and Carl Shay sings for OSC) which I drive all over Lancashire and I cannot say it has made a blind bit of difference, however, good luck with your campaign

Dany from the Observer was summoned to the ground this afternoon probably with respect to hyping up this game

Personally I think the club should be applauded on this matter. It is the first really proactive thing the club has done in a long time, they could have handled it in the manner of asking a fiver and still been seen to being proactive, but free is free and if we cant get em in for this we never will! There are still numerous things need answering such as policing and stewarding for an unanswerable question such as how many. But well done to the club and in particular Eric Whalley (over my dead body will anyone get in for free) for taking the fight to the town and asking whether the public want to come.

Come or be damned, you have been given the option.

I'd rather have a voucher for some free beer on Saturday if it's all the same to you Redskin :D. Seriously though, I have mixed feelings on this, whilst I can see the logic behind an incentive like this and I really do hope it works and we can get the ground buzzing on Saturday, how many of those who do take advantage of getting in for nowt but who wouldn't normally come within a mile of the ground, will come back? Unfortunately, I can't see it being that many - if any. Having said that, I hope I'm wrong and the attendances get a good boost after this - I'll keep my fingers crossed (and get there bloody early on Saturday just in case :) )

we moan if it rains and we moan if its too sunny!

the bigger picture again.

Whether you are at school or at work, in the dole queue or shopping, people are talking about Stanley again for positive reasons, this is a good thing. They certainly wont all come back but I dont think an awful lot of 'never-been-befores' will come, I think it is about enticing BACK the people who have drifted away over the last few years. If they come back they may remember why once upon a time they couldn't stay away. They might re-addict themselves. If that brings back a hundred people then it has been a worthwhile excercise - if it creates an atmosphere where Torquay capitulate and give us three points then it has been a worthwhile excercise - if we all look to spend a bit of extra money here and there around the ground then it has been a worthwhile excercise.

As a season ticket holder i don't give a toss about other people getting in free tbh....its our club and if this means increased chance of a win on saturday then im all for it...just hope the club is planning to guarantee entry to all season ticket holders???

Re: Free Admission

I`ve been telling all my work mates about how its free to get in at Accy on saturday and none of them live that far away (i work in Crawshawbooth) but not one of them were interested even though most have kids who enjoy football and they could have made a day out of it, i`ve aslo told as many people back in Barnoldswick to get their selves down there to, but almost the same reaction, i just hope you all have more luck in and around Accy than i`ve had at getting people to go, i cant believe that people wont go for FREE, but i guess if they are not interested you can`t force them.

It was on Century FM tonight in the news section. I didn't get chance to listen to the Legg ends so can't comment on anything said on that

I've managed to persuade a couple of mates from work in Blackburn to go as they are liverpool fans and they play sunday (plus they fancied coming to watch some of their players ;) ). Unfortunately a lot are rovers fans and they are playing at home, tea time ko, so they were a no no

Good news on the Liverpool fans, they'll help create an atmosphere.:)
In a similar vein, good news on the Rovers fans. ;)

Re: Free Admission

great news it being free but in my opion even if it was 5er for adults and 3 quid for kids thats great and the club would still make abit of cash off it

MCR ADIM 14-03-2007 18:59

Re: Free Admission

not the same as being free tho beucas i you think of a family two adults two children the price you suggested would come to £16 plus the kids would want drinks/chips ect so could be anywere up to £25. now its free it is even less than £10 as you are jus paying for drinks/chips which makes it better for familes and for asfc as a whloe as they might get people coming back which would mean more profit which would equal
1)better players
2)better ground fastilaties
3)higher league postion
4)all the moaning people abit more happier

Re: Free Admission

I have to say well done and thankyou to Stanley for the free admission on sat as a family of 8...mum dad and 6 children aged under 12 a day at the football is hard hitting on our pockets like the last poster said
1.tkts for us all
2.food/drink
3.travel(we live in Clitheroe)

Althou it is not a easy task having a family day out,due having to use public transport and having 1 child who needs a wheehchair we are able to do so on sat, this will be the 1st time ever that we have be able attend as a whole family, instead of dad 2 kids or dad 3kids and the others missing out due to pure cost.

so if you spot a a tripe of kids be lead by 2 stressed parents thats us !!

We are a football loving family infact a all sport loving family and thanks to stanley im sure we will have a great day out on sat.

Re: Free Admission

hope you enjoy teh game Katei and welcome to Accy web.

As an aside, the kids under 12 get in free til the end of the season anyway. Go to the club shop next to the main turnstile and ask Lee for Junior Reds membership forms.

Re: Free Admission

thanks

i have just be looking at website and saw that......great idea! althou i dont think im brave enuff or mad enuff to manage every home game with all the kids lol

does anyone know how the disabled/wheelchair area works?

it isnt a huge problem if we cant get in at the disabled area as we can take him out of chair to stand with us for the game but is better for him if he can sit in his chair

please dont tell me its in the seating area......is nt football unless you can stand with crowd not into all this sitting for football

sparkie 14-03-2007 20:21

Re: Free Admission

sorry chuck but the disabled area is to the changing rooms end of our main seated stand, and for safety reasons you won't be allowed to take a wheelchair onto the terraces.

Glad you're coming though, tribe in tow!!!

katei 14-03-2007 20:25

Re: Free Admission

hmmmm

think it may be a case of carrying him and leaving the chair at home then

Re: Free Admission

Don't think there are many in college who havn't heard of the free admission, I've got 3 ex-reds coming to the game. As for any people with Rovers fans not coming, they might as well come for an hour, who knows they might want to stay :)

Tin Monkey 15-03-2007 18:00

Re: Free Admission

What is there to gain by making it free admission?

Apart from a load of freeloaders turning up and making up a (hopefully) large attendance on the day, what reason is there for this move?
