Re: V Bury

Having been to the game today, I can't believe that we've come away from Gigg Lane with nothing. From bossing a game comfortably to throwing it all away in the space of just over ten minutes !!

In the end It all boils down to the countless chances missed and two fatal lapses in concentration at the back. I said to my mate at half time " I just hope that all the missed chances and possesion that we've had doesn't come back to haunt us!!" I wish I'd kept my mouth shut now!!:o

Bury were there for the taking today. We have got to learn to be more ruthless when playing sides like Bury. We nearly let it slip at home to Mansfield last Sat. And we've got to cut out the kamikaze mistakes that we seem to persist with making.:(

we didn't and that is why we lost. First half we completely dominated and controlled, Bury weren't even at the game and the Ultras were shouting for Caspers head.

2nd half we scored whilst I was ordering my third hot dog (fit fodd bar bird;)) so I can't comment but I assumed we had started where we left off. After a few more minutes of possession and not being able to convert chances we invited Bury to get a foothold, but even then they were nowhere until Mangan got on the end of a really terrible back pass and slipped it under Arthur and a returning defender from a tight angle with next to no pace.

Their winning goal wasn't really a mistake as such but Mangan ran down the 18 yard line and turned Williams too easily to get in a cross for an unmarked attacker to knock home.

This was a game that we could and should have won at a canter but we failed.

I had no problem with Craney coming back into the side as Carden was relatively poor last week and Coley admitted that he wasn't yet fully fit. But to drop Roscoe, who has been playing really well and creating bucket loads of space for others such as Mully, was ridiculous. It also two games on the trot where Boco has failed to get on the pitch despite lack lustre 2nd half performances.

Branch suffered a lot in the second half and when you could see Leam Richardson comingoff you thought his number would have gone up, nope, off went Browny, then Evil came on whilst Roscoe stayed on the bench. Bemusing.

All in all;

Stanley fans: excellent until the roof caved in on us
Bury fans: no wonder your team doesn't win much at home, you are appalling and should be ashamed of yourselves.
Stanley 1st half. Excellent again in the first half
Stanley 2nd half, Appalling again in the second half.
Coleys substitutions. :confused::confused::confused::confused::confused: :confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Re: V Bury

How we managed to throw away 3 points in this game beggars belief. 3 easy points that could be so vital at the end of the season. We have to win games like this and there is no excuse for throwing this game.
From completely dominating the first half we suddenly went to pieces in the second half and lost the plot completely. The first goal was Cavannagh's fault yet again and the defence was appalling for the second goal (where was Cavannagh again).the tap in at the post was so easy.
I hope Coleman has some answers to this Jekyll and Hyde exhibition.

I think the squad on paper is as good as most other's in the Division but consitencey has to become the key, kill teams off when given the chance and defend in numbers when needed, we have skill and pace to burn, play to our strengths and cut out the schoolboy errors and we need not fear anyone in this Division!:)

DAV007 29-09-2007 19:06

Re: V Bury

Consistency is terrible.

im fearful about going to bradford.

not going to be easy - the team selection is strange?

I rate McEvilly - but to play him with mullin doesnt work, they are to similar.

D'sane is a far better partner for either of them.

Lay off him, it was nothing to do with McEvilly. It was all down to the other ex Stanley player you used to rubbish constantly on this messageboard. Well he really put you in your place today, didn't he!
Craney was magnificent, showing all the pace, trickery and shooting we have been missing and was so unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. Sickening result for a Stanley following who showed the Bury fans what support is all about. Didn't hear a peep out of their lot until their goal. We didn't do a lot wrong today apart from appalling errors from Cav, and Carden plus Rocky's abject failure to police Mangan for their winner. Kenny Arthur looked completely ******* off at the end and raced down the tunnel after sprinting to their goalie to swap handshakes. If you don't pick forwards, though, you are bound to struggle to score goals...........

Ok the goal was nothing to do with him but the fat b*****d could hardly get off the ground when he needed to jump for a header, why bring him on instead of Dsane?

There is no need for that! I bet you wouldn't say it to his face...;)

Whether he can get off the ground or not, don't blame the player... Does McEvilly pick the team?

Everybody has been raving about Dsane over the last few weeks. I cannot understand why he didnt play. Maybe he was slightly injured???

Tin Monkey 29-09-2007 20:36

Re: V Bury

Dsane didn't play because Craney played as a second forward, just off Mullin. Craney was good today and if he keeps that up he'll be a major asset for us.

This Charming Man 29-09-2007 21:08

Re: V Bury

Absolutely gutted to lose today. No need for knee jerk reactions though as I don't think we'll go down.

I'm a bit concerned about the lack of balance in the squad though. We've not really replaced Toddy and Doherty with any decent wide players (Whalley isn't quite there yet) and have now got Carden, Miles, Craney, Proctor, Boco, Harris and Brown competing for 2 positions in CM. Two of these tend to get put out wide, though they all naturally play through the middle so this makes our play a lot more narrow than it was when we had Rory/Roberts and Toddy hugging the lines.

Oldgobbin 29-09-2007 21:34

Re: V Bury

What worried me today was that Craney looked head and shoulders above anyone else on the pitch, which shows just how little progress we've made since he left us last year. Also, for God's sake, get off Evil's back. It wasn't his fault that firstly Carden, then Rocky, had mental abberations. Browny looked off the pace throughout the game. Branch looks off the pace FULL STOP and has done every single time he's played!! How some of you lot can turn round and put the blame on someone who came on 15mins from the end just beggars belief! I got home devastated this evening, but I'm not looking for scapegoats. I feel you can lay elements of blame at the door of everyone EXCEPT CRANEY - but blame is not what it's about! Where do we go from here? The defence still suffers from appalling lapses in concention - hence 2 goals. (Even Kenny wasn't at his best)The midfield disappears for long periods of play and (sorry, but thanks to Browny) gives away loads of free kicks in dangerous positions. Mangy knows us - and made us look silly, which stresses once again how little progress we have made!!
Overall we probably deserved something out of today's game but at the end of the day we got nothing, The question we should be asking is WHY. and the answer lies at the door of far more players than McEvilly!!

P.S. Where was Rommy, the most naturally gifted player we've got?!?

Oldgobbin 29-09-2007 21:59

Re: V Bury

P.S. For concention, read concentration - a lapse reminiscent of our defence!!! (too late to edit)

Doug 29-09-2007 22:32

Re: V Bury

I had to spend the afternoon in Blackburn and Accrington today, shopping of all things. However I managed to get in the car and on the motorway for the second half. Disappointing result and it looks like a laps on the part of the management again.

Mangan was one of ours and is well know as a super sub, so what do we do? We underestimate his contribution. Anyone should have seen that if he got on to the pitch he was going show his former manager and club what an asset he was, he was going to do everything in his power to score today and he did, Well-done Andy.

So way didn’t we mark him like a leper at a royal garden party and what the hell was that back pass about, either someone being a clever arse or an idiot? The rest of it, god knows what they had in mind, but it should be seen as a wake up call because if we can’t put down the like of Bury after such a commanding display we’re ****ed. Wakey, wakey Mr Coleman, Mourinho is looking for a job.

Outback Ozzy 30-09-2007 00:11

Re: V Bury

Mrs Ozzy spoke to Andy prior to the start ot the game, and he admitted he should never have left Stanley, but that is water under the bridge. I came away from today feeling absolutely dejected. I have never felt so angry as I was today. I probably insulted one or two stewards on the way out for which I must say I shouldn't have. I felt the referee was poor, once again, Mullers has everyone jumping all over him and tugging at his shirt and he gets nothing. Why did Kenny Arthur get booked? First Bury goal was a good one, but second was blatantly offside, and I felt Bury players should have done the gentlemanly thing and kicked the ball out with one of our players down in the opposition box and their goalkeeper checking on him. Like someone else said, I fear for us on Tuesday night, we could get tanked and maybe that will be a good thing in some respects. How a team can boss a game for 75% of the time and lose I am not sure. Craney played well and was unlucky with a couple of shots, both of which the keeper saved. From a personal point of view, I thought Carden had a better game and Branch looked useful especially when going forward. I know we have no divine right to win every game, but this was one game where we were robbed, plain and simple!

carpon 30-09-2007 02:32

Re: V Bury

Let's cut the C**P. We lost a game that we should have won.Whichever way you want to play it,we're talking after the event. We bossed the game, for a long time.Bury bring Mangan on.......(he ain't Drogba or Rooney) All of a sudden it's PANICK time!! We all know who he is and what he's capable of!! Bury were there for the taking. Probably gave Chris Casper a damn good excuse to evade picking up the P45 .We've lost to a side that will, come May,look at this as a MASSIVE result.

After what transpired at the Gigg, I only hope that Coley saw where our frailties lay/lie. The defence switched off TWICE and cost us the game.....let alone a point or three.

I will draw my own conclusions. GREAT to have Craney back,to me MOM today. Muller's was isolated for far too long. (WE/Team Would have benefited from a natural forward (i.e D'Sane) playing off the big man.

(Sorry to those it may offend) Williams lost the plot late in the game ....went missing. Cav. dragged out of position far too many times.Branch (for all his years & experience) looked tired after 70 mins(maybe the legs have gone??). As last season proved, scoring goals is not a problem. IF (notice the emphasis on the IF) we can start cutting out elementary mistakes, by the next time we play BURY we'll be SAFE.

May be you don't joke. A BBC pundit mentioned the other week that Mourinho had built Porto on a comparatively small budget and would just as much relish the challenge of managing Accrington Stanley as he did Chelsea.

We were excellent all through the first half but kept bimbling around the penalty box instead of striking early. Ok, Bury picked up a little in the second half after we scored but why did we just fall to pieces when Mango came on?

Todays performance was mostly encouraging but became a little disturbing in the last 20mins.

Bury's stadium is way too big for their small band of supporters. How empty was their home end?!!!!

Good performance by the ultras.

Should have all been sewn up by half time. Why leave Dsane out against a really poor side? Why just watch Carden and Branch struggle to keep up? Where is Boco? :(

If it's any consolation they were called in for extra training this morning.

Mangy put me in my place - get off your high horse, you sound almost glad that he scored against us just so you could say "I told you so". I did rubbish him towards the end of his time with us yes, because he deserved it but I always said he could do a job for 10 minutes or so, just not for 90. His attitude let us down a lot but maybe the move's made him grow up a bit.

I wouldn't hold your breath Bagpuss :) - and before you have a go Redraine, sorry but I'm not going to apologise for having another go at McEvilly as in my opinion he's a player who should not even be back at the club let alone deserve a place in the first team.

Yestedays game at Bury was the same old story not taking chances and giving away two soft goals, IMO for the first goal there was more than one chance for it be cleared and the second one was a mistake by rocky, but if we had taken more of our chances the story might have been different. Also how many times over the years have they not taken thier chances and given away soft goals

Yes players make mistakes but Coley has to shoulder some of the blame yesterday with some poor tactical decisions and some even stranger substitutions.

None of you have mentioned that the 2-1 scoreline was our first home win in 2007 (18 lonnng games). You out sung us in the first half (its not hard is it? Did you see the attendance of the manny road end - the one facing you?) however, you seemed to quieten down once young mangy and adams came on. There was a band of supporters singing through the first half (ultras?) and the rest seemed to be nice little grandparents to me, eating selections of cakes and knitting. I will be the first to admit that we were woeful overall. Attmosphere -terrible (I couldn't even hear our drum - I was in the main stand on the right hand side of you). Performance - embarrassing. Tatics - shocking. Management - OUT!
If we started with Mangy and Adams we may of given you a better game, but no, casper the friendly host (get it?) decided to play 7 defensive players :S
On the other hand we do deserve a bit of luck, the refs we had had lately have been worse than abysmal. Unlucky - better luck next time then ;)
