Re: Stanely badges

I made this point a while ago when a programme was purchased by the OSC. At the time I suggested that if anything that was needed for the exhibition etc a request should be put on the messageboard to see if anybody had the item. Since then programmes etc have been bought by the OSC. What is going to happen to these items after the exhibition? Who is looking after these items?

I have offered a lot of memorabilia including programmes dating back to 1920's, a medal, share certificates, photos, etc. I have been contacted once over a month ago and nothing since. The items are out there, they do not need to be bought. I am in total agreement with Baggy on this one.

There have been countless requests on here with regards to stanley memorabilia by myself & Macca in particular, also asked for at the FES over the tannoy, in media/radio the works. The was some response to that has been sorted but i did in particular with the stories thread request memorabilia & no response other than ones i've already been in touch with & i haven't personally had an offer from your good self tho i cannot speak for macca. Can you refer to the post you made regarding that as could be an over sight, i seriously wouldnt of missed an offer intentionally as wouldnt macca, that could deprive the exhibition of callibre items missing from the exhibits loaned by a loyal fan especially.

All items bought by the OSC will remain the property of the OSC. More valuable items may stay as a long term asset of the club so that the club always has something of value (may be only sentimental value though). Some items may be auctioned off or offered as prizes at some point in the future yet to be determined

yes Jeff, we did exchange PM's in which I said that I would collect nearer to the exhibition which is due this week or next. I did also ask if I could possibly come to have a look at what you have which you kindly agreed to - unfortunately due to a heavily pregnant wife and a bad case of woodworm that has required four hours a night of work doing on it I haven't had chance to do so.

There has never been any requests for any specific memorabilia, just requests for 'Stanley memorabilia' which could mean anything. Why not state what specific memorabilia you are looking for.

As a slight "neuteral" in the debate can I add the following.

The reason I guess is that nobody has asked for specifics is that NOBODY has a clue what might be out there.

This would be my wish list:

Orginial players shirts pre 62

Orginial players shirts 70's to early 80's

Old share certificates pre 62

Pre 62 programmes

Any pre 73 programmes ( 70-73) Where any ever printed???

Medals from any trophies won??

Pre 62 scarves

What happened to the contents of the club in 62. I know certain things where repossessed in lieu of debts, but was anything taken by ex-employees??

I only have programmes from 73-to 85 and these have been given to Macca as requested.

I'm sure there will be separate threads but there is another exhibition meeting on Monday; please come along contribute to the on going debate:)

my wish list would be for the large stone plaque that is on the front of the Breedon Book - plonked and abandoned in the middle of the derelict pitch post 62. Does anyone know what became of it?

Rob, it seems that you are taking a lot of uncalled for stick on this thread.
I would have thrown the towel in long ago.

Can I just confirm to anyone that has offered any items for the exhibition - the exhibition is fully insured. The room in which the exhibition is being held is going to be stewarded at all times, when not steward the doors will be locked so no one can get in.

So, in other words - any memorabilia is fully protected.

i'd be giving the game away if I said on here that I was willing to bid up to £xx so I won't say one way or another if I still intend to bid. It is suspicious how the bidding went up to just above what I had bid and then had a bid retracted, not long before you pointed it out.

The first badge has gone to an unkown bidder who may or not be part of the Stanley family - we'll never know. I do however know of the existence of several of those badges so it didn't interest me. The other one I only know of two people who have this badge and I also know what its purported resale value is. Part of the remit for the OSC and its exhibition is to gather together items of value (not just financial) for the benefit and enjoyment of the collective. This badge comes into that category. As previously offered Bagpuss I would probably offer you first refusal on buying it, at the price it takes to secure it, should the OSC want to cash in on an asset.

The badge I won this week was the white version of the common red one, it was NOT a badge I already have.

As a side note I have been offered a chance to sell my collection which I'm seriously considering.

Re: Stanely badges

I would consider bidding on it Bagpuss if you were to sell it - and that would be a private bid as well rather than an OSC one. Let me know if you are interested

I never thought it was an abuse. I just thought that you would have asked to borrow specific items instead of buying them, and as the OSC don't have an office or any base I just wondered who would be responsible for the items purchased after the exhibition had ended

Re: Stanely badges

no problem Jeff - I was probably a little harsh in saying that you thought it was an abuse so I apologise if I have offended.

You are right in asking that without a 'base' where does stuff go. In this, and probably every other instance, it usually falls on committee members to look after things. In previous years things like badge collections etc have been given to the club to display in the clubhouse but that won't be happening this time around as things go missing. I was informed a couple of nights ago that only a few years ago there was a badge collection in the clubhouse with numerous pre 62 badges in it. Now there are only 3 badges pre 62 that I am aware of (anymore please let me know - if only for 'knowledges' sake) but that particular collection went missing during one of the many renovations over the years. The OSC has also, through various people, donated picture collections, but they get taken down for whatever reason and are not stored properly and then become useless. Only last year we needed some pictures for the Crown but only the 10 or so that are up now were any good - out of a choice of around 30.

At some point next season the OSC will have to decide what to do with the various assets that we will have gained. Do we sell them? I know that Bagpuss would like at least one of the badgesbut what if he doesn't want to pay what we ask of it? do we put it up for auction and risk it going to a 'non-Stanley' collector? or do we sell it for under the going rate because it is to one of our own? Most of the programmes we have bought will be neither here nor there value wise and are only really of any value as part of a wider collection. Probably not worth selling and trying to complete whatever collection they are?

Anyway, thats something to decide on at a later date with a few more peoples input.
