I can tell you first hand there are times when we had 2 or 3000 on the Longside and it was 100 times louder than it is now. Seats have helped to kill the atmosphere, and even to this day one of the biggest and most constant complaints among Burnley fans is about the constant eviction of home fans by over zealous control freaks in orange jackets who seek every opportunity to enforce the seating rule. The majoirty of fans would still vote for standing areas, myself included.

Yes it's a league requirement but it doesn't mean to say people have to like it, and in defence of those Stanley fans on here who do object to the seats, for some to suggest they would rather see the club be demoted is an insult to them.

Dave, Thanks for your reply, re the longside yes i was on The Turf in the 70s and it was some place and was there recently and i agree with you its not the same but they still make a lot of noise, its still one of Footballs great places,, re insults Sorry if i have badly written the piece i never set out to offend anyone on here my record proves that but anyhow thanks for your response, by the way a good win for your boys today i for one wish them more sucess.

Keep the faith....

It boils down to two things 1, Seats or 2, Football League expulsion the choice is yours.

This is the "spin" that the club are putting on it now. That those who don't want seats on the Clayton End don't want to stay in the FL.

Rubbish - the club have had three years to sort this out and it seems to me that they've done very little. During that time any rumours about seats on the Clayton End have been met with indignant denials. Now it's too late to do anything else and the club have turned it round and are trying to make the fans feel guilty for wanting to keep the Clayton End all-standing.

Well, it doesn't matter now, the seats are here and they're going to be installed. But two things are for sure - it'll diminish the atmosphere and the matchday experience for a lot of fans and the way it's been done will leave a bad taste in the mouth for many supporters. :(

I am trying to be positve here and yes the situation is far from perfect but it is what we must do to to maintain Football League Status.

the first paragraph is utter garbage, the rest of yer post good sense. i started popping up the stanley occasionally cos i can still STAND. the atmosphere at ewood were ive bin since 62, went to crap when it became all seater, same at other bigger crowds/grounds. any man u season ticket holder will say the same i have no doubt.:) but it was a well meant post.:)

Really wanted to keep out of this one but need to have my say and i aint going one side or the other, yes we do have to put the seats in but as said people dont have to like it i go to stanley because to watch football imho you stand up and to me the game has lost so much because fans are made to sit.In my youth i was a longsider and what a place to be!!! visited the turf recently to watch em take on spurs and it is not an experience that will be repeated soon due to the lack of elbow room and feeling most uncomfatable for the whole match and there aint the atmosphere any more just the odd pocket of fans here and there trying to get behind the team instead of 5 or 600 in full cry and lifting the longside roof.To me it would be a sad day if the FES (OR WHATEVER ITS CALLED BY THEN) ever became all seater and i think even though i am stanley through and through that day will be the last day

Quite a long thread, this, doesn't really seem to be getting anywhere.

So how about surrendering the Clayton End to away supporters, bolting all the seats behind the goal and that end of the cowshed, if there's any left, and getting extra money via the turnstiles.

It's not so long since we changed ends at half time anyway. ;)

Just think of the publicity, "Stanley fans brave elements for future of club!", etc.

And in a couple of years we can go back to long threads about needing a roof, what's Eric done with all the money from the seats etc. :)

Poll, anyone?

:mad::mad: Great for the ultras ?????????????? mmm 50-80 fans pleased then somewhere for their flags, mmm i think they would much prefer to display their flags as proper fans & wave em as traditional @ stanley:confused::confused:

Also the noise level will ultamately change from the ultras end, because the accumalation of people around & IN front of the ultras the noise level is contained in volume & carriage, imho [gee supporting the ultras part here shocker lol]:theband:

Plus the advantage of having a force in front of the goals can politely put off the opp goalie also helps our kenny or bavs, having that support right behind he does need to know the time upon closing mins, the defence needs the fans in that pocket to encourage the lads to defend or see something ie back post - also our forwards as well driving em to goal. The 12th man is being lost if the standing folk go & its as very important spot a i have highlighted! So our job goes along with it & its not the same in other areas of the ground imho.

There is absolutely no chance of the seats being in before this March.

The concrete steps will need modifying to accommodate the seats, then the new concrete will need about a week to cure, before you can start drilling holes to support the seats. Then there's 900 seats to put in one at a time.

an important fact is with a roof a terrace keeps/amplifies the sound, when they switched blackburns "Darwen End" fans to the Blackburn End the same number of fans made the same noise, but it was no where near the volume generated at the darwen end, the diference was the darwen end had a much lower roof, so less away fans installed there, sounded much louder.:( it aint just the rain that would be n issue.

Same at the Turf Mr C. The Cricket Field stand has better acoustics than the newer stands with higher roofs.

That's where the acoustic damping comes in, applied to the underside of the roof.

Plus we'll remove most of the away fans for failing to sit down ...... having hired Rochdale's stewards.

Sorry, forgot to mention that bit.

Thing is we waited for yrs to get the long awaited roof & yes it has made a huge difference to the accoustics & loudness of the crowd - plus the advantage of not getting soaked, mmmm trading roof for standing - thats a hard desicion except when its sunny & warm:rolleyes::D

I've been thinking about Oggy's posts, and I would agree. It makes sense, plus we could charge away fans the same as the main terrace, an extra £2 per adult.

The Accrington end will need a roof eventually.
Away fans go to the Crown, so the nearest end for them is the Clayton end.

Stanley Fans in the Accrington end.

I thought about this a week ago, and have passed the comments on to the main people working on the project at the club. ( I thought you lot would lynch my IF I made the thoughts public!!)

My own personnel thoughts are not to move to the Coppice end, here are my reasons:

1) Parking + movement of away fans. We park up coaches and visitors on Livingstone road. If they entered via the Clayton End not sure what the safety experts would say re spectator movement and car movement. Our biggest issue at present is unauthorised car movement. I could only see it being a bigger headache IF the change was made

2) Toilets + catering are much superior at the Clayton End, also you can shelter when eating under the roof in the compound

3) Again a personnel observation. The majority of crowd disorder (which is minimal) is in the away crowd. We have had very few home ejections during our time in the FL. There have been loads of away ejections. Its very easy to spot and control trouble from the police box, would be much harder if the trouble was to be on the Clayton End.

I can see the positives of the atmosphere + dressing rooms etc at the Coppice End.:)

What would solve ALL the issues would be for some kind sole to win the lottery (I had only 3 numbers this week!!) build the all singing + dancing stand we all want on the Whinney Hill then we could have Accy fans behind both goals, like Rochdale, Lincoln + Bradford. Thats what we are all dreaming of, we just need the extra injection of capital:rolleyes:

I would think that would be the first and foremost reason for not moving the away fans. I doubt as a club you would hardly get a say in it either. I would think the police prefer the current arrangements and what they want they get, otherwise you get no ground safety certificate. Am I right ?

Yes, can see your points, SR, but, as the "superior" toilet/catering facilities at the Clayton End only comprise portakabins and trailers, surely it would be relatively easy simply to move them round. As for the police control room, that's got to be replaced at the end of the season, anyway, so why couldn't the permanent one be built at the Clayton End? Still think the directors should consider it.

mab 15-02-2009 20:23

Re: Please Read; The Seats The Facts!!

Also if the clayton end was made all seater the ground capacity would fall to 4,356k Currently 5,056. Clayton End area has a current capacity of 2000 at the moment 600 seats are to be put in at that rate to seat the whole of the clayton end you'l need another 6/700 seats which reduces capacity to 12/1300 from 2000 a short fall of 700 spaces to me a none starter

Re: Please Read; The Seats The Facts!!

Nothing to stop them installing the seats on the bottom half of the Clayton End, as they are proposing to do now and then giving it to away fans. That way, we've got the capacity and the seats to satisfy FL requirements. However, as Dave says, the parking/movement of fans issue is probably the fly in the ointment. Worth discussing, though.

Create a corridoor from the gate at the top of the away end car park to the back of the whinney hill stand which in turn leads to the back of the clayton end stand thus keeping home and away fans seperated

Don't worry Eric will have all the new seats installed by June  2009

Remember what happened to Cambridge City last season, they called the Leagues (Conference South) bluff - but it was not a bluff and they got kicked out for failing to upgrade their ground. Now its the BGL for poor old City.

How many times have you been told that the seats WILL be in place by 1st May. Why keep going on about it. The only way we will be out of the league is if we get relegated. The only way WE can help not get relegated is to support Stanley, so get up to the FES on Saturday and Tuesday and get behind the team and let's have a couple of wins, and for goodness sake stop moaning about the seats.

It wasnt a case of will they wont they.. it as a case of when.. thats what we where talking about..

As you brought up the subject.. I wouldnt worry about seats being a reason for relegation.. or ending up in relegation zone... the ongoing fiddle diddle enquiery from the bury game would be my worry... hardly going to be a ten pound fine is it ...

K-P even if there was any substance to the allegation no one has suggested the club were in any way implicated. Why should it suffer?

In the 60's it was Swan Layne and Kay who took the rap over the bets that were put on their result at Ipswich - Sheffield Wednesday only got sympathy.

.

aww come on! your not that nieve are you? history tells you that no matter who at the club has done wrong.. the whole club, town, fans are the ones that suffer.. If there is no wrong doing then why so long?

I still think the club are planning to install most of the seats by the middle of May or early June at the latest :D - but don't worry they will be in place well in time for the start of the new season - in the Blue Square

Seriously :excl8: It is only just over 5 weeks until the deadline, that does not seem like a lot of time to get the work done when you consider what has been done so far and the time that work has taken. We also have Easter coming up as well, which will not see much work carried out I would have thought ?? Could we have some up to date info please Southern :)

The clubs Google Page Ranking is very poor. I called up after the Darlington game to find out why the extra seats had not been put in. I was was left waiting for 5 mins while the young lady who answered went to find help. She did come back in the end and said she was sorry but there was nobody there who knew  - but she had heard that they were being installed after the last home game of the season (Chesterfield on April 25th:confused: ) - Eric really likes to push it :D

if all the concrete is poured and set and the holes pre-drilled then it shouldn't take too long to screw a load of bolts down.

perhaps if the club need some bodies down for this task then they could send their emissary, Mr Southern Red to post it?

Just when you accept that seats have to go in on the Clayton End they throw something new at us Claytonenders and make the best standing spot IMHO into a walkway??? WHY??? Not happy!!! Bet the Ultras aren't also.

Can't see many using that to be honest, imagine when your going, will you walk up to the top before you head for one of the exits at the end? I hope you will, it will leave the bottom bit clear for me for a quick exit :)

It will be walkway then there will ahve to be a barrier and then standing... then another barrier and then seating.. . I dont think any of us had thought about that... I can see a walkway is needed.. just never thought ....

So, there are only going to be six steps of standing terracing? If everybody who presently stands on the Clayton End and Whinney Hill tries to fit in there, it's going to be one heck of a squeeze!
