urgent question re: Sat night!!!!
Well to say I am slightly fuming is an understatement:
I received a phone call yesterday to say that the club had double booked the clubhouse on Saturday with a 30th!!!!!!!!! Bear in mind I booked the room as soon as the fixtures came out for last home game of the season and checked again in Dec and again when a stag do was mentioned in another thread and was told yes we are aware that you have booked!!!!!!! All the players, management and Directors were all attending and yet I was told this 30th was booked back in Nov... I felt sick :( I was told they needed to speak to Rob and call me back. I didn't get a call by the time I left work so emailed Rob to find out what is going on. I received a reply this morning with an apology and to try and sort it out.. the suggestion being holding the presentation night in the Crown. Rather than make the decision myself I thought I would ask people who are more than likely to attend what their thoughts are.. SO PEOPLE WHAT DO YOU THINK??????? |

MCR I have suggested Rob checks the Oaklea's function room to relocate the 30th birthday party as our numbers would be too many for there and to be honest our end of season do should in my mind be at the club

At the end of the day, the supporters club booked the room first so should not have to move just because the club cocked up by double booking. The club should be contacting the people who have booked the 30th birthday party to tell them of their mistake & try to relocate them, even if we did manage to find an alternative venue at such short notice I doubt many of the players would be there.
I suppose we could manage to have it in the Crown if absolutely necessary and, as K-P has said it would be better there than not to happen at all but it's far from ideal, as all the trophies have been sorted the only other alternative would be to get all the players in the clubhouse after the game so that the winners can be given their respective awards, the negative side to that is that the clubhouse will need to be cleared early to make way for the people coming in to set up for the party. |

These things arnt done on purpose... initiial reaction is shock (to say the least) but count to ten take a deep breath and move forward.... To me there only seems two options... the clubs and accymads..
Make the presentations directly after the game Use the Crown.. Neither is ideal but realisticly these are the only two options... either time for a public vote or time for the OSC to make a decision that we all agree they should never have had to make |

DISGUSTED Lesley. You should stand firm and let the club take the rap off the birthday party. Every season the Presentation night is booked when the fixtures come out and the club should automatically KNOW the night is booked.
As an aside they did this to us two years ago if you remember right, and we ended up having it a fortnight after the end of season. It was not a flop but ....... tell em to relocate the 30th or they can @$%^ off |

top and bottom of it is that the date went in the diary in June and would have remained there until now.
At some point a call has been received and whoever checks the diary will have asked the powers that be who will have said 'sod the Supporters Club'. If you have to move it then cancel the thing entirely and mothball the Supporters Club until attitudes or personnel change. IMHO |

Grrrrrr I have just spoken to Stanleymad on the phone and she has done a massive promotion drive aswell as me doing so too and its just not on.... and tbh I don't think the 30th would be right happy if people are gate crashing thinking its the end of season do and they spend half the night telling them it is elsewhere!!!
I def think the 30th although I have every sympathy for them should be relocated |

The other thing is this is the one night a year that everybody can come together, staff, players and fans as one and celebrate what is bigger than all of us but what brings us all together.................

Still havent calmed down yet!!! Its pathetic that the club cannot keep track of its own blumming diary, after i have been witness to many attempts by HR to make sure the date was kept clear & the reassurance given to her regarding any concerns to make sure that this wouldnt happen! The OSC as a unit go to lengths to make sure this particular nite is a success as has many a time, to least try to put money back to the club. I think we have been kyboshed as habit this season but my own opinion even after an hr contemplation.
Just done a big net publicity stunt ensuring the word is spread & a want of a good nite by all..........................& then a very unproffessional stunt like this is pulled i hope the person responsible for booking the event should be brought to book immediately! At a time where we cant afford to lose fans & income! Fuming! |

Why didnt the member of staff who picked up the phone to the person who was organising the 30th check the diary and what would of been happening on that date? Its a football club , did they not realise this is the last home game of the season and there would be always fans in the clubhouse and obviously a supporters club event!
The people who are attending the 30th are probably not even all stanley fans! But the club would rather let down the current fans who attend the clubs games then people who dont! This is going to turn alot of heads and doubt the club alot which will then inturn put them off season tickets etc! The club should now, if they had the bollocks , ring the people who organised the 30th and tell them that sorry they have double booked a big event however they will pay for the buffet , dj etc in compensation and will try and will try their very best to locate them somewhere else asap. Disgusting tbh! Its not as if the supporters club quickly booked this event , its been booked for ages! |

Sorry to hear of all this Harwood Red its a complete shambles but not a surprise really, it must seem like a kick in the teeth for you loyal supporters.

If I was you Lesley I wouldn't take no for an answer, tell them to sort out the mess as it's their doing and as has been suggested, tell them if it isn't sorted to yours and the OSC's satisfaction you will knock it on the head . Cheers lindsay i fully agree with what u say, definately doing a good job of upsetting the very people that support the club & put money into it week in week out, not boding well at all, imho i wish the takeover would happen soon & then business can be sorted out properly.

If the club are seriously suggesting that our own fans are shafted to a less suitable venue, then I would suggest COMPLETE dissolution of the OSC's link with the club.
This is the latest in a very long line of showings of disrespect from the club towards the OSC. The club does not deserve the benefits reaped from the amount of hard work that people such as Leslie, Mel, Rob and so many others have put in. The club must not allow the relationship with the fans to be compromised any further, and most definitely make other arrangements for the 30th birthday party. |

I think we all know where the club's priorities lie and clear communication, honesty and respect aren't exactly high on the agenda; if my cricket club treated me like this I would tell them to stuff their membership and go elsewhere. I really feel for the guys who do all the work for the OSC, a thankless task at best but this is the final straw surely?

Its so heart-warming to receive such positive & supportive comments for the osc & the event:D Hopefully we'll see what we can do, i await & hope the club comes up with a better solution soon preferably asap or tommorow with immediate effect!

Not long been in from work and just had tea and come back on and have to echo stanleymads sentiments and say a big thank you for all your kind comments and support.
I have spent the last 36 hours going from feeling completely sick, to angry to disappointment and the overall feeling of letting people down on an event that I know is enjoyed by so many TRUE stanley fans and many of their friends who come along too. And it has been known in the past that we have made new supporters out of people from this event due to the welcome that we give new faces aswell as seeing many fans together having a damn good night |

To re-itterate its not u, our chairwoman nor is it the fault of the osc or anyone bar the club & the staff responsible, many people here do realise how much this event means to the osc as organisers so no way are u accountable HR, sincerely.
One night for a pee up in a clubhouse for all fans, friends, players & families, manangement duo, back room staff, directors & staff alike to celebrate all things red & white & yet the club couldnt even book the date properly without hiccup nevermind host a pee up in a clubhouse! |

I suggest that you ask to have a look at the 'diary' Lesley, in order to ascertain how exactly they have managed to double book.
Either it wasn't in the book (and somebody has lied three times in saying it is) or someone has deliberately screwed us. |

I am truly gutted for all concerned with organising this annual event, and echo all the sentiments allready stated. The Club, has for a long time now done its upmost to alienate the OSC ( unless they are taking the cash of us of course!)and undermine all it stands for. OK so its not a huge SC, but it is a valuable rescourse and often the first point of contact to visitors to this site etc. Lets be honest, it would be missed without doubt..........granted I am not personally as active as I have been in the past, but do and will continue to support Lesley,Mel etc in all thier endevours.
With regards to the Presentation night I'm afraid that I am all for direct action........inso much that I would pull the night completely and get the press involved, its high time that the club was brought to book for its inept handling of this affair...........DISGUSTED :( |

They are quick to ask for our help when the club is in need! Do not even repond to someone who wants to give money to the club, could help Coley get in some players E.g Buy Charnock, and a couple of other players. I was looking foward to going to my first end of season party, to meet other fans and players, Guess i'll have to wait to next year. |

There does seem to be something of an underlying current of incompetence within the club, you just don't run a business like this, after all the fans are the customers when all's said and don't, and with this coming on the back of the betting debacle, no wonder you lads and lass are, well to say the least, are just a tad upset

Why is everyone assuming that the OSC need to be displaced? Surely, if the 30 party was last to be booked, then it is the club's responsibility to sort it out by telling them that, due to an oversight, there has been a double booking and that they can no longer be accommodated. Stick to your guns, Lesley, it's the club's problem, not yours, so why should you help them to sort it out?

After talking to a few osc members, reading what has been put on here and alot of heart searching I have decided as Chair of the supporters club (maybe my final action) that if it cannot be held in the clubhouse this event will be cancelled and the trophies presented after the match as mentioned before. It is then up to individuals whether they decide to still meet up for drinks in the Crown. I decided on this action due to as others have pointed out, we did book the room first and the Crown is not a suitable venue for a do that includes children (licencing laws of the pub). I have notified Rob Heys of this decision and he is still trying to see what can be done. I feel for the people who have booked their 30th birthday do but I think they will probably get fed up of the people coming in thinking it is the end of season do as it will prob not be possible to advise everyone that it has been cancelled. PLEASE NOTE THAT AT THE TIME OF THIS POST, THIS EVENT IS NOT OFFICIALLY CANCELLED BUT I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN A FINAL DECISION BY THE CLUB HAS BEEN MADE |

Cant agree more Lesley, think that has put it firmly with the club also to the idea that if it is indeed cancelled to presenting players after the match, no one gets a drink & we all walk out to the oaklea for a drinkies [whom have been a supporter as a business of the osc & have been more than hospitable for meetings with the exhibition & to fans for matches without any problem at all & welcomed warmly]. Hit where it hurts im afraid, that is the only way to get the seriousness of the issue towards fans highlighted big style to the club. Also want to make it known to the players whom win or not that the actions we take isnt a result of them or management duo concerned but the incompetant people behind the fiasco! We will celebrate the team asfc success to safety but not the workings of the club as a business/Google Page Ranking/customer relations etc. Just my thoughts on the subject, till club gets back to u lesley & hope for a better response to change my mind.

As an outsider who is close to the action I think you are correct HR.
As much as the club has battered you all in to submission, the hard work I see you all do shouldn't be underestimated. Don't make decisions about the future in haste, as Macca said earlier in the thread, there are options to give you all a break without seeing that hard work go to waste ;) |

If you don't get the desired answer from the club, you are most welcome at your next door neighbour, Accrington Cricket Club, after the game. We are playing Todmorden CC in the Lancashire League version of the Charity Shield. The bar will be open until late, and a friendly welcome will be extended to all.

:mad::mad::mad::mad: Its now looking not good at all, the club have been given every chance to respond, 2 days to go to saturday & not a word, unbeleiveable!!! The thing is the stupid club dont get is that if the event is cancelled we have to do that soon & let people know for their sakes - not the clubs! Its left us all in limbo & its very unfair of the club indeed, seems its a case of take the crown or leave it, no disrespect to Mo & Tracey, but its not a suitable place for the event, so its looking very much like leaving it. All we can do is sincerely opologise to our many supporters, friends & members for any let down on behalf of the OSC whom are at the most very let down enormously by the very club it supports & never let them down as they have to us atm, is my strong feeling atm.
