Re: New Contracts?
It's such a a shame that it took so long to get Leam back to first team football, with several misdiagnoses along the way and being passed from pillar to post.
I agree wholeheartedly with the previous posters' comments, he performed brilliantly in the two games he played in at the end of the season. If the sad news is true that he has been released, then I'm glad (as I'm sure he will be) that he had the chance to go out with a bang. A very important player in getting us to where we are now, thanks for everything Leam. |
Re: New Contracts?
I have to agree he slotted straight back into the back four like he had never been away and gave us something we had lacked for large chunks of last season a player comfortable going forward in possession like an old fashioned wing back.
Good Luck Leam:) |

Would hope if true the reason fer his release is published.

Contract News
Thursday 20th May 2010 A dozen offered new deals and two depart Twelve Accrington Stanley players have been offered new contracts by the club as manager John Coleman puts into place the foundations for next season’s League Two campaign. Top scorers Michael Symes and Bobby Grant are both considering new contracts, as are goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin, defenders Dean Winnard, Darran Kempson and Peter Murphy and midfielders Luke Joyce, Sean McConville, John Miles and Alan Burton. Symes and Grant: mulling over deals Full back Leam Richardson, who played the last two games of 09/10 after recovering from serious injury, has been offered non-contract terms. Striker Billy Kee, who spent last season on loan at the Crown, has been released by parent club Leicester and has been offered a deal by the Reds. Meanwhile, Gary King and John Mullin have been released by the club. King and Mullin: leaving club Gary became a Red at the start of the season after impressing on trial and made nine appearances during the campaign, scoring twice. John joined us from Tranmere in August 2008 and pulled on the red shirt almost 40 times during his spell here. We wish both players all the best for the future. Club Captain Andy Procter, defender Phil Edwards and midfielders Jimmy Ryan and Chris Turner have 12 months remaining on their current deals, whilst Coleman is hoping to bring back Tom Lees on loan from Leeds for a second successive season. |

cheers ash for posting update here :D

Re: New Contracts?
No Worries lol :)

Re: New Contracts?
Glad to see most of the team getting their contracts re-newed specially billy's gonna get ya next season - hopefully pick up a few more to strengthen the squad too, looking forward to August already :D
|
Re: New Contracts?
that's good!! glad leam has been offered terms as he is a good player
|
Re: New Contracts?
Looks all positive news to me.
Great to see the manager take a punt on Leam, fingers crossed he has a full pre-season :) Thanks to John Mullin and Gary King, though no surprises they have left. |
Re: New Contracts?
Agreed, looks really positive - I'm glad Leam hasn't been released and just hope he can afford to sign on non-contract terms. I guess it's wait & see time now, hope we can keep most of the squad together :)

Gillingham's official site has a useful update on what's happening elsewhere in League 2, with the names of players retained or released:

Re: New Contracts?
two goalkeepers to look out for there are Joe Anyon at Port Vale and Jon Brain from Macclesfield, both reasonable keepers, bags of experience and reasonably local.
|
Re: New Contracts?
Joe Anyon has signed for Lincoln City mate.
Jonny Brain worth a look. I have a feeling Coley will get another prem/ championship youngster on loan for next season mind. Possibly Martin Hansen from Liverpool is an option, seeing as Bouza has already been here and David Martin has joined MK Dons |
Re: New Contracts?
A few surprises in the list
We would have a squad of sixteen if everyone was to sign, not much room to manouvre if we are sticking with a squad size of twenty, but may lead to greater use of the loan windows to freshen things up should the need arise. But good to see the Club setting their stall out early and striking while the iron is hot, I know budgets will be tight but would like to see a lttle bit more experience brought into the squad to tighten things up a little. |
Re: New Contracts?
Coley wants Kenny Arthur but budget may hinder him, Grimsby looking for Arthur as well!

Re: New Contracts?
Contracted players are tied to the club which is good as it means you can plan long term. the downside for the club is that you still have to pay players who are injured. ie Leam last season.
Non contract players can move on by any other club which serves 7 days notice of approach no fee required. The terms of Non Contract can mean whatever you want it to payment wise, but it gives the club an easy way out if the player sustains a long term injury. Generally speaking most players below Conference level will be Non Contract the possible exception being a talented youngster who may play at a higher level and therefore someone would be willing to pay a fee for him. |
Re: New Contracts?
A few decent players been released.
To name a few: Barry Conlon 0 is always a threat against us. Matt Harold -think he was one of top-goalscorers in league 2 when wycombe won promotion, altho he is slightly ginger :) Graham Coughlan -good player at this level - might be a bit old? Adam Rundle -Decent player for Rochdale Simon Whaley - just class - wage demands will be high tho Rommy Boco -dunno if he would fit in with set-up mind Kenny Arthur - we all know :) Jake Simpson - son of former shrews boss- I went to school with this lad might be slightly bias because i know him but hes a brilliant player, was on the books at Blackburn since an early age and went to shrews with his dad.. I think hes got a good future might be worth a punt |

Re: New Contracts?
Matt Harold bossed the game when we played at Wycombe in January last season a very good centre forward. Makes a lot of clever runs, knows where the goals are is equally as good with his head as with his feet.
Would fit in very nicely with a wide man system:) |
Re: New Contracts?
I for one wouldn't want Harold. Whilst he may have a few endearing qualities, he's knocking on, always seemed to be a whinger and I generally think there's better on offer.
Move mountains to get Billy Kee, for which there's the prospective sell on side of things, look to get a lad in like Purcell ( Darlo ) who I think would prosper under Coley, again a lad with potential, Raachi from Bury is worth a look; and getting Kenny Arthur back ( if fit and agreeable ) would bolster what we have. It would also be nice to get Charnock ( cover / competion) for Kempo and Edwards and an additional midfielder. If we're talking former players with relation to the midfield dept, I'd have Craney back over Boco. He had much more drive than Rommy (personal opinion like!!) :o I dare say Coley will pull a rabbit or two out of his hat before next term....as the man says...... keep the faith !!!! |
Re: New Contracts?
Charnock already has a deal at Torquay for next season
|
Re: New Contracts?
... but Torquay are over £600,000 in debt (as of last week) and are looking to trim their earners.
|
Re: New Contracts?
Plus when we went down to torquay i heard charnock came to our players hotel because he is still friendly with all the lads... and he doesnt like the set up down there but well have to wait and see
|
Re: New Contracts?
Matt Harold is only 25:)
I don't like the idea of re-signing players unless they are are better than we already have and will fit into our style of play I agree with some of your points Carpon in there are some quality players out there in all departments, obviously budgets will play a key part in who we can sign but with just that little extra blend of experience in signing players who are proven at this level and a willingness to take a punt on a player as we did with Symes could just be the catalyst to take us an extra notch next season.:) |
Re: New Contracts?
I heard a strong rumour Charnock was coming back earlier in the year, but I think he earns a decent salary down there.
|
Re: New Contracts?
lets get him back up here him. winnard phil kempo at the back plus tom or young lad from blackburn ..... we would have a big back line ...
|
Re: New Contracts?
Not sure who Id have at the back Grimps apart from Phil.
I think we looked solid many a time, but the back 5 as it where, definately where not conistent enough for me all season. Despite a massive improvement we still shipped a hell of alot of goals this season. Obviously a number 1 keeper is a priority but id love to see 2 decent attacking full backs in the mold of Kennedy (Rochdale) etc. Easier said than done of course :D |
Re: New Contracts?
a good goalkeeper would sort that back line out and keep them moving. Arthur is a must.
in an ideal world we'd sign Arthur, Kee and Charnock Lees probably wont get another season with us so the back line would be Edwards, Charnock, Kempson and Winnard with Elvis directing them |
Re: New Contracts?
Personally I think it would be great if our first choice back-five of 2010/11 was:
Arthur Lees Edwards Winnard Richardson A few essential questions arise from that however:
A steady goalkeeper who instills conifdence in the back four would aid consistency no end, and we have more faith in none other than Kenny Arthur. |
Re: New Contracts?
Well , KENNY should never have left..and because he did, I didn't buy his KA brand of gloves for my footy club ,(I'm the equipment manager for 32 teams, and YES, we can get his product here in nz.). Come on back to STANLEY Kenny, and I'll do something about it for next season. :)

Stanley give Symes a deadline (From Lancashire Telegraph)
Stanley give all our of contract players to say whether they are signing or not!! billy kee is in no rush to sign anywhere and has held productive talks at Torquay!! says regular games and training factilties are his factor! so by next week we could have Ryan Edwards turner procter |

I cant see him getting league football anywhere else |
Re: New Contracts?
BBC Sport - Football - Striker Tony Gray rejoins Southport
Where do these people get their stories from, Williams has not played for us since last season    Not too happy with the news of Kempo :( |
Re: New Contracts?
The thing that worries me is the question of how long will Coley put up with losing players due to a crap budget? Hereby never being able to properly build a team over a few seasons, which is the best way to move forward as a club. We all know his talents at finding gems, but for every Gary Roberts there are two Sean Webbs and if half the players decide not to stay on, we may not be able to progress on this season's achievements purely because of the budget. We were really quite lucky to get so many good quality players under such a small budget last season. I worry that we may not be so lucky in 2010/11.
|
Re: New Contracts?
Quote:
if he went to Tranmere and could pay players £3000 a week he would lose his best players to Leeds, Notts Forest who could pay £5000 a week, and so on until he takes over from Sir Alex (and buys McConvile for £1m) |
Re: New Contracts?
Fair point macca, but I meant more the inability to compete in terms of wages with our own peers in this league, rather than losing players to teams further up the pyramid.
|
Re: New Contracts?
were just lucky coley is a great wheeler dealer shaker, most clubs are in the same boat, bar 5-6 maybe even less n that, just a differant scale, only thing to do is accept it will always be the case.:)
|
Re: New Contracts?
I suppose the scenario will be for the forseeable future that we are small fish in a big pond
But I would think from a management point of view there must be something greatly rewarding from finding gems and polishing them up to FL standard the frustrtion as mentioned is watching them walk away for next to nowt because they were not tied in to longer term deals. My thoughts for months were that if we did not make at least the playoffs then the team would be broken up by players leaving There are players out there that would still give their all for a crack at either regular first team football or to play in the FL, this is where our scouting network should be coming into it's own. |
Re: New Contracts?
Looks like we now have five players for next season. Yoofie Zak Riley has signed a pro-deal according to this article: Burscough FC boss Andy Gray to meet Chequer Properties - Skelmersdale Advertiser
|
Re: New Contracts?
We'll be ok for the five a side league, at least.
|
Re: New Contracts?
We need:
A new keeper A new center half New left winger 3 new strikers, one of them being able to score at least 10-15 all season, one being a good link up, and another being maybe young and good cover for both |

Re: New Contracts?
Had Kempo displayed some of the same commitment to the club as shown in his playing style, he may well have gone on to become a Stanley legend in years to come. After all, he's never played better football than when with here with us. I think he may come to regret his decision, but I hope he goes on to good things. It's a shame, but he's replaceable.
|
Re: New Contracts?
Looking like we could be a few players down over the coming weeks but i suppose what do you expect with the wage budget we have to work with. With Burnley and Blackburn at either side of us you would of thought the clubs would do a discount ticket insentive to come to stanley when their team is doing a john terry (playing away !!)

To be fair to Kempo and no doubt others, a footballers career can be relatively short and if you have others/family to support you are going to best what is best for yourself & your family.
I for one wish him all the best:) |

Perhaps this puts into perspective where we are:
Bell: Accrington Stanley will be dealing in frees (From Lancashire Telegraph) Sad but realistic:( |
Re: New Contracts?
do we not make 1st offer. then you have 2nd offer .. and last 3rd offer on table not one then move on ... time to kick out the s.h.it money offer at the club get sum one in with money ..... ew payed cash 4 players .......... get to grips mr o n ... or you will not lose but fans too kempo is one to keep more money have jb jc contracts yet or they could go . then we would be in real crap

Re: New Contracts?
Its a diifficult situation for all those concerned.
We have to remember that the players have mortages/ bills etc to pay for. And as we know they dont earn thousands every week. In fairness to Kempo, If he has been offered better money elsewhere whether it be at a League club or not, for me there is no question that I would move. Yes as well all know the Blue Square Prem is alot less glamourous as it where than League 2, but if clubs in that league can afford better wages than us, there is not alot we can do about it, which I also agree is a sad state of affairs. :( On a brighter note, good to see Winnard has committed for 2 years, and maybe he could slot in along side Edwards next season. :) Ive heard Jonny Flynn will also be getting released and could be a nice signing. |
Re: New Contracts?
I like winnard, glad he has signed up for two years, as thought he played very well last season, if not in his right position, thought he could of been wanted by a few other clubs, think he will slot in nicely with edwards
|
Re: New Contracts?
Winnard was brill last season, Good signing.
|
Re: New Contracts?
I think Winnard has the makings of a good player would like to see him in his natural position of centre back alongside Phil allowing a natural left back to be brought in.
Left Back there is a few available who would easily make the transition who are available on free transfers: David Buchanan-Bury Warren Cummings-AFC Bournemouth Ryan Dickson-Brentford (can also play left midfield) Billy Jones-Crewe Thomas Newey-Bury Lee Ridley-Cheltenham |
Re: New Contracts?
I can think of a left back who is already available for us ....................
Leam Richardson ;) |
Re: New Contracts?
I think we can safely assume that we're not going to bring in any Football League players who were not with us last season. It's not impossible but it's highly unlikely. Especially with the established ones. Pay washers, get.... I'm not allowed to put stars, am I? ;)

Re: New Contracts?
It seems that we moan at the end of every season about what could have been and "if only". We analyse and criticise all season long.(so does every other club too.) We don`t actually appreciate the positive and the good.
At the end of every season we worry and speculate about who will come and who will stay and who will go. Will we have a team? Of course we will and I have every confidence that Coley and Jimmy will give us another good season to remember.(hopefully another year on year improvement). Top 10 next season for me. It`s realistic and we`re still growing and developing. |

Re: New Contracts?
Think the manager may have found another possible gem in michael hall, watched him at blackburn and his game is ideally suited for gaining experience and doing a job at acci.
