Re: Match Thread vs Mariners

Absolute garbage. I think that was the worst Stanley performance I have ever seen. What on earth has happened to our team? We made Grimsby look like Brazil at times. We could easily have conceded 4 or 5 goals before we somehow got lucky with our 2 goals, with everyone around me fearing we were going to **** it up yet again - and sure enough schoolboy defending did it for us. Sponsor's man of the match was Jimmy Ryan, subbed at half time, which neatly sums it all up. I know Coley had to try something different, but taking off the only 3 players who looked remotely like creating something, apart from Symes, was a mystery.

SamF 05-04-2010 16:28

Re: Match Thread vs Mariners

Positives: Dean Winnard. Played his heart out and was a good as 3 men.
Negatives: Our midfield played like 0 men.

We were robbing them at 2-0 and a 6 or 7 nil thrashing for Grimsby would have been a fair result. The majority of the team were just apathetic.

Good luck to Grimsby, keep playing like that they should avoid the drop though unfortunately for them I don't think they'll find an easier game than they had today.

Also credit to the Grimsby fans it's not often we are out sang - only thing I didn't like was them booing their own team at half time despite having had the domination of the play. Also abusive chanting at the keeper after you've won the game just aint needed.

Terrible, no passion no guts, how we went in 2 up at half time, is one of lifes mysterys:eek: Think Ryan was injured, so understand if so, what i will never understand is how a guy who plays 45 mins, is awarded M.O.M. this is real Monty Python, but without the humour.:( Honestly do not think Kempson is capable of controlling n playing the ball, ya can only hoof it up so many times n it will come back n bite yer ass. McConville came on fer a stroll, am sure his mam had told him, don't get yer kit dirty. Fer my money BOTH should be dumped end of season,:mad:

Re: Match Thread vs Mariners

Just back and had time to reflect on the goings on at the crown today,to be totally honest how we went in two up at half time is beyond belief as Grimsby should have been at least four up and cruising but they just could not get the ball in the net and their fans must have thought it was going to be one of those days.
Stanley were not great today, why o why we persist with this long ball over the top I can,t really understand it,s a recipe for disaster IMHO we play far better football with it on the ground and get the results.
I don,t know what is going on in the dressing room at the moment but something is just not right and I,m sorry but to be saying the lads are tired just will not wash with me for crying out loud they are nearly all young lads and should be fit enough to run round all week long.
I spent the second half in the cowshed and JC spent most of the half bending the fourth officials ear to me it was,nt his ear that needed bending but that of the eleven red men on the field, only one 110% performance today for stanley and that was Kempo.

Bobby Grant wasn't interested, Bouzanis made more mistakes than Dunbavin would have, Phil Edwards at RB and Winnard at LB???, why did Ryan get replaced by Joyce? So many question a big response is required.

Agree cashman. Hoofing long ball up field will win no games. Bad defeat. Outplayed by a team who actually kept the ball down and played football.

Re: Match Thread vs Mariners

First goal conceded because they didnt play to the wistle. Second a deflection of the wall was hard luck. As for the third they were more worried about the Mariners player with the ball on deck and when it broke free an army could be driven down the middle to goal. When that happens a player just run in not marked n no cover. As for Kempson he owes an apology to Deano after his rant at the poor sod for covering him. The penalty claim that Grimsby had was a dead cert n Stanley were lucky the ref miss read it.

To me they are very tired and there is a lot of tension in the team.

Do you really even want to be saying that. We have over-acheived this season. Beat last years record and have pushed for promotion until the last 4 games. Not to bad to say we have the smallest squad in the league, worst facilities. Negative vibes like that are not needed in a season where we have survived being wound up, to be pushing for promotion. Being seen as favorites in matches we would of been written off in. FA Cup run vs Fulham, League Cup vs QPR, JPT vs Leeds. Really you want the man in the hot seat gone ?

Fully agreed, cant start saying sack the boss that would just be fickle, im pretty sure you wouldnt have been saying that when we drew fulham or leeds in the cups... yes we was awful today and i thought a changed side from that rubbish on saturday would have made a difference but obviously not even though if the team was the same im sure the outcome would have been the same aswell. The only was is up and 3 points are a MUST up at darlo saturday...

Saying it as it appeared to me. Still maintain there is discord in the team and temper outburst is a sign of it.

caretaker 05-04-2010 17:14

Re: Match Thread vs Mariners

There is problems in the team. It may be that Colman is too much a bully boy the team are frightened in case they make mistakes. Kempson was off on one, the two Goalies must wonder who is the first choice, though they both seem as bad as each other. The team played like total strangers, on the positive side it should have been six for Grimsby
Just want the season over so we can regroup, buy Antwi and Martin perhaps

Saddened as well as frustrated. Ok J.C has some hard choices to make but so do the board. The squad size doesnt help and tired bodies and minds will lessen passion and hinder performance. It needs to be a case of over the season not over a few bad matches.

No-one can doubt what Coley has acheived fer stanley, amazing is my word fer it. but there comes a "Point" in every job, when ya have gone as far as ya can! Thats the "Real" question, Has he reached that Point? some will not like this, but its a fact of life.

A lacklustre performance from the team all round today...........if we are honest we should have been 2-6 down at the end of the first half, it was only last ditch defending that kept us in it IMHO.

The MOM gets subbed at half time...............ok probably tactical inorder to tighten up at the back, but it didnt work :(..................a bad day at the office.....again!

Not nearly good enough................where has our form gone I wonder?

Oh well, next!

Exactly the conversation grimps and myself had in the second half and yes you are right cashman some will not like the question being asked but it is gonna be asked, half the problem is we are all passionate about our little club and some will speak their thoughts openly come what may and grimps is one of them.

Fair enough, but if your philosophy is correct then who do you replace him with ? We couldnt afford ore than a tinpot manager and we would see ourselfs slipping down the leagues faster than we got here. IMHO.

I did NOT say i would replace him, i said thats the "Real Question" IMHO only Coley n the powers that be can answer, and to speculate slipping down the leagues is a dumb statement to me, no-one knows the answer to that, end of the day everyone wants the same thing, therefore every possibility needs to be explored.

I think we've got to remember what Stanley have achieved this season, Stanley were favourites to go down this season. We also had the financial problems,a small squad because of the embargo, and the continuing problem of low gates.

To still be playing 2nd division football next season is in my humble opinion a remarkable achievement.

I'm just glad we're mathematically safe now, or else I'd be really worried, as, on today's showing, I can't see us picking up another point this season.

Fed up of the reversion to the old boot it up in the air and hope for the best stuff and why the hell is Coley persisting with McConville, a player who is obviously not football league standard? :(

:( Whats happend to our team not just to days poor performance but over the last one n half/2moths,since the morecamb game at home ,have Grant and Syme signed new contracts or john and jimmy for that matter. For me theteams gone down hill since 8th feb when bradford job came about since then we've lost 9 won 3 and drawn 2.it might have nowt to do with it but thats religation results, just agood job we had a good first half of the season.

I agree Bernard but, we are all passionate about our little club and we do seem to have gone downhill over the past seven or eight games, there does seem to be some unrest in the team, but coley's tactics do no seem to help. he said this was the stngest squad he has assembled, but it looks as though they are only strong for threequarters of a season, if we had played like this for a furthe four or five games we would be in a dogfight again. But lets keep the faith for a little time longer. It's all down to disapointment.

I agree its the strongest squad ive seen since pre 62, n there was some superb stanley sides in 50s, Hence the reason fer me comment about the "Real Question" my own personal thoughts are there is still a "Non-League" attitude prevalent.

I think there has been improvement this season Cashy. Just maybe we all got carried away a bit with the early season form, and the expectation level was raised too high.

Think you hit the nail fairly and squarely on the head there Bernard.

Many years ago when Liverpool had a good side, they won the league with about seven games to spare, they then went on to loose their remaining games. It must be a psychological thing, Stanley are safe, job done, no need to worry, play out the season. Not saying its right, but it may have a bearing on the catastrophic loss of form.

Possible caretaker, its more than that to me, as wynonie said they have taken to hoofing the ball once again though, Why? these are professionals! they were beaten by rochdale, i came away saying 2 good sides n best side on day won, whilst disapointed, i was not brassed off, Today Grimsby were the far better side n they may well be going into oblivion, I came away bemused n disgusted, the performance was not acceptable simple as.IMHO. excuses do not sit well wi me. aint many affluent people in this neck o the woods n to me deserve better. how can they possibly attract any walk ons with this?:(

For what it's worth here my tuppence worth:

Grimsby were up for it the front two were as good as I have seen all season (though they obviously don't play like that all the time or the Mariners would not be where they are)

Akpro had all the tricks in his locker, the movement just caused chaos in our schoolboy defence pulling them all other the place.

At two-nil down they had heart, passion, belief and played for each other. Not once did their heads go down they dug deep and got their rightful just rewards against a woefully inept Stanley side.

There is something seriously wrong at Stanley

There is very little Leadership, No Balls, No Passion & No Commitment

It is a dreadful shame a season that promised so much is pertering out without a whimper

I don't know what the solution is maybe we just don't know what to do when we become the side the teams want to beat as opposed to being the other way around?

Play with two wingers and don't blooming use them, crap balls straight out of defence to the opposition, hoofing down the middle to no one?

The HMS Stanley has certainly run aground Big Time and will take more than a few Tug Boats to pull us out of this one

To still be playing 2nd division football next season is in my humble opinion a remarkable achievement.

Whilst I agree with this post, it doesn't stop me being bitterly disappointed in the performance today (and I use the word loosely).
Apparently Coley locked the lads in the dressing room after the game & they still hadn't emerged at going on for half six - not sure how much good that will do, the lads were obviously frustrated with the way they played today (argueing between themselves on the pitch proved that) but will treating them like babies improve that, surely better to start afresh in training this week & go back to basics - the quality (or not) of the team starts at the top & Coley & Jimmy have to share some of the blame for this drop in form

I was optimistic at kick off, attacking team selection on paper, Grant & Turner to provide width, Symes & Kee in the middle, etc - I said to my lad, 'we are going to see plenty of goals today', expecting a 3 or 4 nill Stanley win. Boozer looked suspect most of the match, poor defending, and dreadful performance in the middle of the pitch apart from Jimmy Ryan - no wonder he got man of the match! Too much hoofing the ball, not enough on the ground, think the team is knackered & yes, we have been punching above our weight. Still at least we have a club & League 2 football next season.

The answer to your "Real Question" Cashy unfortunately within certain sectors of the Club yes there is

Just because we may have the smallest budgets in the League and we may have the smallest crowds, commitment, attitude and professionalism cost nothing.

They are a team that goes from the very Top to the very Bottom

We were robbing them at 2-0 and a 6 or 7 nil thrashing for Grimsby would have been a fair result. The majority of the team were just apathetic.

Good luck to Grimsby, keep playing like that they should avoid the drop though unfortunately for them I don't think they'll find an easier game than they had today.

Also credit to the Grimsby fans it's not often we are out sang - only thing I didn't like was them booing their own team at half time despite having had the domination of the play. Also abusive chanting at the keeper after you've won the game just aint needed.

Agree with your comments, didnt know how we went in 2-0 down... Are fans as usually were excellent (shame are team arnt all the time) but the reasons for the goal keeper getting so much abuse was because as soon as you scored your first he turned around giving it the shhh to us all, same again for the second goal and pointing his fingers down which i and the town fans were totally out of order, so i thought he deserved all he gets, was absolutely hillarouis when he got the abuse at the end walked the complete oppersite side and didnt even take a glance over at us, Quality...
You fans are brilliant with there songs and there band

Fed up of the reversion to the old boot it up in the air and hope for the best stuff and why the hell is Coley persisting with McConville, a player who is obviously not football league standard? :(

Couldn't agree with you more Wyn !...now you know that I am the last one to criticise individual players...but I really cannot see McConville ever succeding in the game ...There truly is something lacking there !!.
Too many 'dead-legs' (and dead Brains?) on view today..plus a total lack of desire to win (Which, quite naturally, The Mariners had by the Bucketful !)....

Alfred.E's message to you suggests that there was probably something FISHY going on !!.

'ON STANLEY !!...ON !!'...to GREATER THINGS !
