Doncaster v Accrington Stanley
Carling Cup first round Venue: Keepmoat Stadium Date: Tuesday, 10 August Kick-off: 1945 BST Coverage: BBC Sport website, BBC Radio 5 live, BBC local radio & highlights on The League Cup Show TEAM NEWS Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll will be without midfielder Simon Gillett, who is suspended after being sent off on his debut at Preston on Saturday. Fellow new signing Josh Payne may make his debut in Gillett's place. Accrington Stanley will give forward Rory Boulding a fitness test after he limped off against Aldershot at the weekend. Striker Craig Lindfield is another injury doubt so Andy Parkinson and Chris Turner may be brought in. MATCH FACTS Head-to-head • Doncaster have met Accrington Stanley 41 times. They have won 22 games, lost nine and 10 have been drawn. • The sides have never previously met in the League Cup. • Stanley have only registered one victory on Doncaster soil. Doncaster • Since returning to the Football League in 2003, Doncaster have only failed to progress beyond the first round once (losing to Notts County in 2008). • That was also the last time the South Yorkshire club were eliminated by a League Two club. Accrington • They have never won a League Cup tie away from home. • This is Accrington's fifth season in the League Cup. They are aiming to reach the second round for the third time. • Nottingham Forest (2006) and Walsall (2009) are the only clubs Stanley have knocked out of the competition in their history. |
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Hmm I did wonder how I got 260/1 for a 2-1 Stanley victory with Mr Putterill scoring the first!!!!
However Shaker, if it comes in I shall buy you a few little ones at rehearsal..............think Im pretty safe huh............lol |

Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Listening to BBC Radio Sheffield, they've just given some pre-match news about the Donny team, very much doubt there'll be full match com on us (think they're at Chesterfield).
Looks like it's just live text to keep up to date! |

Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Is this a private party or can anyone join???
Greetings from the Keepmoat. Confirmed team news: John Coleman has made three changes to his side for tonight's Carling Cup tie at the Keepmoat Stadium. Out go Ian Dunbavin, Charlie Barnett and Rory Boulding, with Alex Cisak coming in for his debut alongside Luke Joyce and Craig Lindfield. The full Stanley line up is Dunbavin, Bateson, Edwards, Hessey, Winnard, Joyce, Procter, McConville, Putterill, Ryan, Lindfield Subs: Dunbavin, Parkinson, Turner, Murphy, Riley But you knew that, didn't you? :) At the risk of getting lynched, it's a great playing surface here... |

Listening to Radio Sheffield on analogue radio at the moment. They are at Chesterfield's new stadium enjoying the apparently very good pies with some match commentary from Hillsborough where Wednesday are playing Bury. |
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Wonder why we have got team news so early?? Hope that Charlie is not injured.....
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Both sides going through their warm ups at the minute as the extremely irksome PA man deafens the whole stadium with banal "chat"
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Dan, I know that Bavs is superman, but starting on the bench and in goal??? :D :D :D
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Have we got two Bavs'? FANTASTIC. :D
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Shaker, team sheets have been knocking around since about 7 - 45 minutes is about standard for a midweek kick off.
Barnett had some treatment yesterday - my thought would be that with Joyce a more than able deputy and a game on Saturday it isn't worth risking him. |

Posted in error!

Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Cock - that'll teach me for copying and pasting Saturday's line up!

And for your information, I may not be on the radio but I'm commentating to myself like a mad person. Force of habit!

Does anyone want to know how Doncaster line up, or is that largely irrelevant?
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
It's Cisak - clearly! The description was right, it's just the line up that I forgot to change. It's right on the fishy site I think you'll find...

PA man alert - Doncaster Rovers have the privilege of being the first team this season to mispronounce "Cisak"
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
I have to say, I'm glad that you folks are talking to me tonight - it's a bit boring typing away to myself.
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
By the way, the Doncaster line up shows seven changes from their win over Preston at the weekend. Squad rotation or disrespect? That is the big question at this stage.
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Kick off approaches: time for a loud rendition of the "the impossible dream", which on the basis of where these two teams were ten years ago seems pretty appropriate...
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Hope it is disrespect, it will make winning feel even better :) :)
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Is it a confident Accyweb public tonight then?
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
any live commentary on the radio anywhere???
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Dan, your commentary is always appreciated, whether anyone replies or not!
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Reckon it'll be a high scorer.
Doncaster 4-2 Stanley. |
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Got to mention (though it's becoming an away game cliche) that the Ultras are in superb voice - they are away to our left and I can hear them over the piped euro pop on the PA system
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Fashion faux pas alert!
Stanley are wearing black away shirts and Doncaster white shorts and socks... Methinks somebody forgot that Donny's home kit has black shorts and socks. Doh! |
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Definately confident - I've even had a monetary bet on us to win :)

Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
We're underway at the Keepmoat. Stanley kicking from left to right in their mis-matched black and white kit
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Just been on to somebody there, could not hear them for The Ultras - superb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Let's hope it's disrespect.....I wanna win my bet lol. Thanks for the input Dan it's appreciated :)
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
1: Stanley concede the first corner - a hospital ball of a backpass from Procter to Cisak goes behind for a corner.
They clear initially, then a cross comes in from the left and Steve Brooker heads over |
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Quote:
No thanks Dan, although the manager was a close call :D |
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Stanley on the back foot early on...

Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Fashion update - Donny's kitman must be the best - Stanley's borrowed shorts all have the correct numbers on them. Well done that man!
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
9 minutes gone and the Reds have weathered a bit of pressure early on but have just strung a few passes together.
Only that Brooker header to mention chance-wise |
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
10: Lindfield wins a cheap free kick just outside the box

Hessey drills it in low to the left corner and Sullivan spills - Putterill's following up and heads it in - BUT THE FLAG IS RAISED FOR OFFSIDE
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
How come 2BR never have Stanley live coverage anymore?
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
I've probably been a bit harsh to Sullivan there - it was a decent free kick and he kept it out

The offside one was just for practice - come on lads, we can do this :)
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Val, it was right of centre and he's left footed...
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Never trust a left footer!!
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Bit of wind in Stanley sails following that disallowed goal - keeping possession a bit in the Donny half but not making a lot of progress

Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Wade Fairhurst bursts towards goal but is denied by a good last ditch tackle from Hessey, before Dean Shiels sees his follow up shot easily saved by Cisak
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Yes i know your typing because they don't ha, i was wondering why they don't?
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Bit surprised that Jimmy Ryan isn't with Ireland's Under 21s tonight.
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
18: Donny's Josh Payne scoops an effort just over
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
20: Donny corner from the right: free header for Brooker who mercifully puts it wide
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
uk cowboy'd have had a heart attack had Putterill's goal been allowed to stand!
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
23: great football from Stanley: Edwards breaks up a counter on half way and gallops forward, cutting the ball back from a right wing position to Lindfield who fires it just over
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Phil Edwards, the Scouse Beckenbauer!
Good to see him getting forward more this season :) |

Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Are they, that's nice of them isn't it?
Could they give us some goals? ;-) |
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
if a draw will it be extra time or a replay?
|
Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
Well they've given us their shorts - what's a bit of possession between friends :)

Re: vs Doncaster Match Thread
GOLDEN CHANCE MISSED
31: Lindfield knocks down a long ball forward to Putterill, who composes himself on the edge of the area before missing the target. A really good chance goes begging |
