Hi all
One change for Stanley at Roots Hall - Peter Murphy in at right back for the suspended Edwards.

Stanley: Dunbavin, Murphy, Long, Hessey, Winnard, Procter, Joyce, Ryan, Putterill, McConville, Gornell
Subs: Cisak, Bateson, Barnett, Richardson, Parkinson, Boulding, Owens

Strange on to me that??? We have a right back on the bench, who was an ever present until he got his red?????

Can you confirm Dan, is that 100 for Bavs???? :) :)

Re: Southend Thread

Cant understand Murphy on instead of Bateson. A strange one as didnt Murphy have a shocker in midfield recently and Bateson I would have thought would have been the better choice. Lets hope it doesnt haunt us at the end. Thought Bateson was playing well before his ban.

Dan 13-11-2010 13:43

Re: Southend Thread

It's a game of opinions, but I thought Peter Murphy was very harshly judged at Chesterfield. I think in the two starts he's made (Tranmere and there) he looked okay. Certainly not terrible.
And isn't this why Coley has a 20+ squad?
I'm a fan of Bateson and he's great going forward, but maybe with this away run it's time to look at someone a little more defence minded as an option?

VALAIRIAN 13-11-2010 13:54

Re: Southend Thread

Cheers Dan, back to Bateson, no issues with Murph as a player, but I do not have him as a RB, that is all!!!!!!

VALAIRIAN 13-11-2010 13:57

Re: Southend Thread

Anyway, back to today, please keep the info coming through Dan. Are you alone, or have you got some able assistants?????

Dan 13-11-2010 13:58

Re: Southend Thread

Fair enough Val. I'm not saying Peter is a better full back than Jonny, but that he perhaps deserves a chance...

Teams are out.

Re: Southend Thread

Most of the times I've seen Murphy play (before his switch to midfield last season) he's played at full-back and been very promising. I thought he'd be first choice right-back both last season and this before the arrivals of Lees and Bateson, respectively. One thing's for certain, I'd much rather have Murph at right-back than Winnard :D

Find it rather inexplicable why McConville starts ahead of Barnett however. Ah well.

Come on Accy.

if you think murphy is a better player than bateson,i suggest a doctors appointment is required.
The oppositions wide men are normally there quickest, therefore pace is a must ( ask hessey !).
Murphy, although a good footballer has no pace, hence they have tried him in midfield.
If Bateson is carrying a knock i would have played joyce there before murphy

Re: Southend Thread

Southend's manager Paul Sturrock is a legend with me and many though not all Sheffield Wednesday fans.

Corr, Zaaboub and Coughlan were with him there. Albeit only Coughlan established himself there.

One of his favourite sayings was "Draws kill ye in in this league". Its as true of League 2 as when he said it of us in the leagues above.

If Stanley don't start picking up wins they will find this out to their cost.
