Well...on reading some posts on other threads, Seans time is almost up??

Let us just wait and see?

Correct about the injury towards the end of a season - which seems like a lifetime ago!!! - but, he is still one of the first on the team sheet for me :)

Can't see him lasting until the end of the season........probably make it up to January 2022. So 8 goals seems a reasonable target this season.....

Do not understand your post CG?

Do you mean he will leave, or do you mean he will not be picked???

It was mean't to be "tongue in cheek"............although thinking now he can't have many games left in him at this level? 🤔

Re: Sean Mc

He was better in the first half because Stanley were on the front foot, and he got into attacking areas down the left wing where he can be, and was, a threat to the opponents.
Second half Stanley tried to sit on their lead, Houlihan put himself out on the right wing to get away from Morgan, Cambridge upped their game, and McConville is not at his best defending deep against a wily and skilful player.

That's a point I have raised before about two attacking wing backs it's no coincidence in my view that yet again we are in the top half of the table with most goals conceded same as throughout last season. It's a balancing act do you forsake one attacking wing back for a defensive type like Rodgers or play the cavalier way.

Maybe left-footed defenders command bigger fees which why Stanley have had trouble finding/holding onto them.

I thought both McConville and O’Sullivan had pretty poor to average performances against Morecambe.
Neither of them are especially strong as defensive ‘backs’, and, when Stanley had the ball, both ‘attacking ‘wings’ seemed to want run backwards to the half-way line to receive the ball facing in the wrong direction. Result was too often another pass backwards and an empty space on the wing behind the Morecambe defenders.
Just hope the VG of F have the last laugh on me when they both score tonight.

Sean is not a wingback, never has been and never will be!

Coley is not doing him any favours playing him there, as a matter of fact, he is not doing anybody any favours in persisting with the formation! :(

I wish he would look at Jurgen and how they play and stick with four at the back :)

Yes Joe, I agree! That goal came from Sean attacking the opposing full back on the OUTSIDE! Which you have heard me call for many times at matches when we are stood together in The Clayton End! I have said it before, that if a ‘winger’ gets near to the goal line then his cross will be coming away from the opposing keeper and centre backs but onto our advancing midfield players. This is exactly what happened as Pell came steaming in for a shot on goal made so much easier by Sean’s position and good pass. MORE PLEASE!:theband::jimbo:

Amazing how effective is a cross from the left wing when it’s sent in by the left foot.
Sean needs to trust his left peg more.

I would think both McConville and Morgan will be back in the starting lineup my main concern is keeping playing one upfront and Pell out of his natural middle of the park role, personally if continuing with one upfront would start Mumbongo with an instruction to muscle himself about and play McConville in the hole I think and he himself says his favoured role. Pell Conneely and Morgan in the middle should be a match for any side on their day.

If the game is heading for a draw late on I would love to see the likes of Nolan given a chance down the left to open his legs at a defence that has suffered some injury problems this season the lad is obviously talented and what I have seen of him has a peach of a left foot and can deliver some wicked crosses has they tire he could stretch them, must wonder what after signing in the summer you have to do to get on the pitch.

Had a shocker tonight. This make-shift striker plan isn't working. No Sean's fault. He just hasn't got a strikers mentality. Neither he or Pell were close enough or in the right areas to feed off Colby. The rookie strikers we have don't get enough game time to develop. Playing players out of position is a last gasp approach when you have absolutely no alternative.......It's like having size 10 feet in size 9 shoes. The ball just wasn't sticking up front and came back time and time again straight through midfield putting pressure on defence.

Apart from the fifteen minute spell after half time when we kept the ball and played in the final third we never looked like we were in control of the game. The windy conditions didn't help but it was the same for both teams and Wimbledon adapted better to the conditions. They were better in the first half and exploited the wide open spaces around our back 3. In the second half they pressed us hard without the ball, had pace with it, and when all else failed they simply played percentages and kicked the ball high, long and forward into dangerous areas. They won't beat the better teams like that but we just couldn't cope with it.

Shocking weather last night, plus the armchair brigade had their favorites playing in the almost 'Champions??' League.

Where do you buy your rose coloured specs, Val?
We may have different expectations of professionals in League 1 but, from my view, admittedly spec-less, no Stanley player who played last night was even ‘OK’, and too many were just very poor.

I honestly think our performance last season raised our expectations. That group of players could score goals, change the way they played during the game. It was a balanced squad of players. Last season we played well in games and were the better team but then managed to lose the games.........that's never happened in any game I can remember this season so far. We've obviously "lost" key players from last years squad, we got lucky with our low budget and were probably never likely to repeat last year's success this year. One good season every 5 years is my expectation and experience of watching Stanley. If we could make one good season every 3 years I'd be happy!.....Maybe just staying up this season and looking to improve next year is all we can readonly expect. Yes we all want more......BUT!

The growth off the pitch is more exciting new facilities under23,s and an academy plus new training ground we will never compete budget wise but we can develop our own and others players and make progress and a bit of profit hopefully.

Hopefully sooner rather than later even clubs like Liverpool produce their own players occasionally better than not having one and over paying an old pro at the back end of his career, and maybe create a few quid that could and should go on playing budget.

Twenty Eight 09-12-2021 18:35

Re: Sean Mc

Sooner rather than later ....... 2 years, 5 years ?
From a standing start I've never seen an academy reap anything but expenditure for 5 seasons.
I think Liverpool's set up has been running a little bit longer than that.
Not a criticism before the bites start because you have to start somewhere.
So the question is really what do we do until we reap the benefits ?
I can always recall the investment that Barnsley put into the academy with the money created from one season in the Premier 1997 - 1998. Millions.
That created players such as John Stones, Clicker, Danny Rose, Reuben Noble Lazerus, Paul Digby.
The investment worked with the fee for Stones alone collected in 2013.
It's the right thing to do but don't expect a dividend return on the investment in the short term.

thought it was at least self financing anyway. the only problem that 28 has stated is the time factor of lads coming through and where the club maybe once they do.some fans have too higher expectations of acadamy players coming through anyway. the majority will ply their trade in the NW Counties league with some even lower than that.

I am neither sad or pathetic Cashy as you should know but comments like that, with such nasty personal innuendos have made me decide enough is enough. I'll probably still participate in guess the gate & the prediction league but as for the rest of the forum, I'm done with it

AccyMad, doubt very much that Cashy has aimed that at you :)

Good to see you and your mum today, even though it looked like you were struggling to get passed.....

I’d ignore it, some people are adept at saying things on the net that they’d never say in the real World.

do not think they are sad people as we all must be sad then. there must be subjects in and out of football that do not suit any single one of us. one mans outlook on life will never be for everyone and who is to say who is actually correct on anything.
