Re: Nice and early Port Vale match thread.......
Cashman,
Down south they view northern men has being strong in the arm and thick in the head but as the menfolk in my wife's family are intelligent, I know that this is not strictly true. You, however, seem to fit exactly into that description. I do not know why, but many northern men seem to have a chip on their shoulder as big as a housebrick. You only have to watch the local news on TV to hear people constantly belly aching about the south always getting better treatment etc. I expect you are also of that view. |

Re: Nice and early Port Vale match thread.......
Anyway, I merely wished to address shakermaker only, as someone who supports Accrington who also some intelligence, and my other comment was just an aside as I did not want to become involved in another spat. I saw an excellent game yesterday with a lot of singing, a fantastic atmosphere and not a drum in sight. I don't think the Accrington townfolk are apathetic at all, probably find the drumming offputting. I have decided what the letters ULTRAS stand for but it is too rude to put it on here!

I am from the south

Re: Nice and early Port Vale match thread.......
I am from the south but I have links to the north. The father of my first wife, a lovely lady who I lost with cancer in 2007 after 37 years of marriage, was born and bred in Clayton le Moors. It is pure coincidence that my current wife is from this area. I spent sometime living in Harrogate in the seventies where my children were born. I lost my daughter in 1989 but my son moved north last year and now lives in Bolton. As a result of my experiences, abuse or banter, does not really bother me at all, water off a ducks back.
Over the years I have, in addition to supporting my hometown team, supported Harrogate, Brighton, Kidderminster, Stourport, WBA, Chatham, Bath City, Salisbury and Andover. I also watch Clitheroe on occasions. My brother says I have had more clubs than Tiger Woods! And before anyone asks, I do not go south to watch my hometown team anymore because it costs £80 in petrol alone, and as a pensioner I simply cannot afford it. |
Re: Nice and early Port Vale match thread.......
You might have mentioned it before Malcolm so i apologise if you have and i've overlooked it, but when you say that you support a League 2 team down south..who is it? :)

Re: Nice and early Port Vale match thread.......
Malcom banter is one thing but keep pursuing the same points is becoming boring
I am glad you enjoyed your football wherever you went yesterday The atmosphere at Stanley is one that is unique and quite simply that of the proverbial twelfth man it may not be everyone's cup of tea but having visited like yourself a lot of other clubs it is something a lot of other clubs a lot larger than Stanley I am sure would be proud of.:) |

Re: Nice and early Port Vale match thread.......
No , I have not mentioned it before because I thought I would receive a load of ridicule but my hometown team is Gillingham.
They nearly went out of business and out of the league in 1995, and were within an hour of doing so. I was supporting them when Accrington folded in 1962. So I know what it was like for the Accrington fans. I was also supporting Salisbury when they nearly folded about 2005 and it was the fans that saved them. I have always admired any supporters who resurrect their clubs such as Accy and Wimbledon. I do hope that your club do progress, because clearly a lot of people have put a lot of hard work into getting them back into the league, it is no mean feat and they deserve success. When Accy played the Gills I had a problem deciding where to stand! It was with reluctance that I decided not to come to the Crown but I sincerely assure you that I just cannot live with the drumming. If others like it, that is fine, but not for me,thanks. |
Re: Nice and early Port Vale match thread.......
It was changed at the last minute redraine after the warm up injury.
According to Dan Jewell anyway! Ive never replied to this mole person........... though I think its becoming quite boring. Bore off! |

I don't think that many would ridicule you for supporting Gillingham Malcolm, when you mentioned a southern team though i was worried that it could be Crawley Town!! :( I like the drumming, when it's not there the atmosphere is tame! I know many older ones have a bit of a grumble about it but it does make up for our lack of numbers in the ground! If i could stop one noise inside the ground it'd be that crackly old tannoy booming out and playing naff tunes! |
