I am more than likely to be going on the train. With regards to public transport on new years day there is no buses genrally but the the trains do run, however they genrrally start up early to mid morning with a full bank holiday service operasting by late morning (which is genrally nearly the ssame as a normal weekday service except were a service has the code bank holidays excepted, but on the halifax trains the service is anormal monday service). B e aware a new timetable starts on the 12th december and there is some retimings on the accrington-halifax -leeds service with sertfvixces from leeds running half an hour later, i don't know the timeingsd going to halikax (also this serive all journies only go as far as york and no longer go threough to scarebrough

I hate to be one to put a dampener on this thread, BUT 3rd January is a Public Holiday because New Years day falls on a Saturday. Could be transport might be a problem still. Best check with Arriva or First North Western or whoever runs the service. Personally, I am going by car only because of where I live, it will be easier.

I checked the official train times before posting.

There will be no trains before 8.00am, but the schedule after 9.00 is confirmed as a normal schedule (Blackpool - York). It's quite usual for the Blackpool trains to run without interruption on a Bank Holiday Monday.

I'd always recommend that anyone planning to use the Calder Vale Line should check that there are no alterations to scheduled services, as Oz says, but provisionally everything is OK.

Jase, yes one or two nutters around. However, let's hope that since our last visit to the Shay the police have got the message that Accy fans are totally well-behaved (unlike a certain West Yorkshire officer in search of some overtime).

Best advice I can give is Keep Your Cool, Rise Above It, Don't Be Provoked . . . .oh, and Carry A Camera !
Friendliness and good humour will always triumph:)

By the time we make the trip to the shay first north western and arriva trains northern no longer exist because the new norther franchise starts on the 12th december along with timetable changes byt ususally on bank holidays it is a bank holiday service but on that line the service is genrally normal. Ha=ving said that i would agree with an ealrier posting that with a being a bkan holiday becuase new years day is a saturday i would noy realy on early or late trains.
