El Classico !!....Morecambe match thread .

Looking at the back pages of several newspapers, and watching/listening to the TV media, the talk of the day is centred around 'El Classico' the Game of the Day !!.
As would be expected I, in my dotage, immediately construed that the pundits were referring to today's clash at t'Globe between JB's young bloods and JB's Shrimps !...Imagine my disappointment, when it finally seeped through the early-morning fog, that the game referred to was a match between two minor Clubs somewhere in Spain !!.
BUT...It will be OUR 'El Classico'....and I'll be looking forward to a goal or two from our strikers, the usual sterling display from our Goalkeeper and the defence in front of him,
a true display of leadership from our Captain (?), and tigerish tackling, ball winning, and imaginative passing from him and the rest of the midfield.......PLUS another animated display (?) and wise substitutions from our Manager !!.
Not too much to ask really !!.
'El Classico'....here I come ! (See you there.)

Well deserved 3Pts Morecambe had only 25% of the game in my view, 10/12 mins aint much to judge, but the new lad looked very useful to me, Sod what faith Davo puts in 100s of Walsall fans, Which is obviously a big exaggeration  Not a lot new yon though.

Cracking result is that unbeaten in 4 games now? 8 points out of 12? We will only get stronger with Kayode returning from suspension as well :-)

Great battling team performance against a right pack of horrible t#$ts.

How did the keeper not get a card for the challenge on Gray?!?!?

Thought Winnard, Betonelli, Aldred and Joyce did really well, with Hunt, Naylor and gray not far behind but big credit to all the lads

So it wasn't THE 'El Classico'.....but our 'El Classico' if not the right game produced the right result...and well-deserved it was too !.
OK there were one or two individual gaffes which almost cost the team dearly, but one can excuse these in light of the overall performance.
Pointless going into details, I agree with Frank and Cashy's summing up of individual efforts, but we shouldn't forget to throw a bouquet in JB's direction. Seems that he's managed to not only get his team acting as a unit, but also injected some 'steel' into their play which shows in their tackles and refusal to give up the ball too easily.
Spare a thought for Jim and his Shrimps who were well and truly 'potted'........AGAIN !!....

Redraine 26-10-2013 19:18

Re: El Classico !!....Morecambe match thread .

A grand day out! Yet again the Shrimps were shown up as lacking the passion required to come out on top of these local derbies as the boys outfought them all over the pitch. You've got to hand it to Peter Murphy, who makes up for what he lacks in sophistication with his bravery, 100% commitment and uncanny ability to get into the box and hurt the opposition. As usual, a lot of ugly bitterness tonight on the Shrimps message board, but not unexpected. Christies Child's posts, although more balanced than most, really made me laugh when he complained about Paddy not getting a penalty when pushed from behind. Our forwards were repeatedly elbowed to the ground by Parrish, Diagne and co., but I suppose you only see what you want to see.
I really hope that Kayode starts on Saturday, and would like to see more of Bowerman up front as he looks like he could be a real asset.

It seems to me we now have a striker problem of the good kind.

Kayode, Webber, Gray, Bowerman.

Shame none of them can play in midfield.

The one thing that overshadowed the game was the quality of the pies!!,they must be the best in England, and that's from a wiganer :)Was interested how that set up (heard some good reports),it seemed to be a 4-1-2-3,which made them very narrow, but we dominated possession and territory for the first half by simply using our fullbacks and wide men.
They had to change and went 4-3-3,and to be fair got back into the game.
In the end we probably shaded it with a performance based on the old Acci spirit.
The twenty man brawl in the tunnel would have made good viewing tho ! :)

Fuming.

Even Radio Lancashire's own Accy commentator said on air that the penalty was harsh as Baz certainly touched the ball prior to the cheating scumbag Gray fell over.

However that doesn't excuse what was a poor performance both tactically and player wise.

It's disgraceful that amount of room we allow their wide men before we even close them down and as for the amount of space we leave in midfield allowing their midfield to come at us is something that I've noticed is becoming more and more apparent with every game.

Something has to change in the midfield area because today's combination other than possibly Fleming has no creativity whatsoever. And yet again too much hoof ball.

It begs the question are we now in out rightful mid-table position?

The lack of 'quality' options on the bench is mow becoming apparent but on a minor positive note it was good to see Marcus get some game time.

Just let's hope that Jack and Chris can make a difference when they come back and the sooner the better.

It hurts to admit this but on the balance of play Accy for all their cheating just about shaded it.

As Cashy will readily confirm, we OAP's who find ourselves just about struggling along and watching our hard-earned savings rapidly disappearing day by day, wearing Charity Shop shoes, and forever seeking out bargains at Aldi, can not, although we'd enjoy the experience, find that extra bit of cash to join the Beau Monde sitting in the better seats at local Football Stadia.
The young lady serving in the Refreshment area at t'Globe was kind enough not to count the handful of assorted small-change with which I hoped to purchase my Meat & Pot Pie, just smiled, winked and said 'That's right love !'...and slipped me 10p back with the pie.....some people do care you see !.
So,as he has remarked, I had to join Cashy and the Hoi Polloi and prop myself up on a Barrier !....and yes it was cheaper.

Cracking Result. How the cockle pickers drowners can argue about the penalty is beyond me.

Only downside was the flare thrown on the pitch after the winner. Bound to mean a hefty fine which we can ill-afford. One can only hope the culprit will have the balls to man-up and pay the fine.

As we walked back to car , a Morecambe fan at the bus stop muttered to us " enjoy the conference next season " . If he thinks we so bad how come they didn' t beat us yesterday? what bad loosers. Pete Murphy leaving the pitch after his super goal was a silly thing to do , with half the team following him , what was 4 mins added became 7. and a yellow card.! Hope the red flare dosn't come out of Stanleys pocket.

I was a Stanley Fan in the Morecambe end , the penalty incident right in front of me, Roche came flying out to do Gray but no contact was made as gray got out of way, yes roche got the ball but the intent with studs up and offthe ground, def penalty

Scoring in injury time = best way to win a game. Still on a high from yesterday. I was really impressed with our wide play from hunt/naylor/mingoia/naismith. Hunt marauding up the pitch a couple of times really opened up some space, and mingoia gave Morecambe's right back a real contest.

One thing though: how bad are we at corners?! 9 times out 10 we don't beat the first man and a great attacking opportunity comes to nothing, or worse we get caught on the break. Example of this came right before our winner. But it's really the major bad point from a good win.

November is going to be a massive month. 3 game at home, and 2 games against the 2 teams above us. Can't wait.

In a game could have swung either way Stanley got the 3 vital points, looking at the stats before the match I envisaged a defeat but I was pleased to be proved wrong, on walking back to the car a couple of Morecambe fans told me it was never a penalty their keeper collected the ball as I was situated at the far end of the pitch from the incident and I did not argue the point merely said from where we were seated at the far end of the pitch it looked a clear penalty to me on reviewing the penalty on the league show it clearly shows the goalkeeper taking Gray out first and then collecting the ball, but then I suppose all us fans are open to distorting incidence to see what we want to see,

maccawozzagod 27-10-2013 15:22

Re: El Classico !!....Morecambe match thread .

the only thing I read into the penalty was Roche's body language as he left the floor to make the 'tackle'. Whether he ended up with the ball or not it was dangerous play to jump in that manner and the penalty was deserved. Morecambe fans can only argue that he got the ball - but that's not sufficient

Master of the understatement. Every team in the football league is above us at this time. However, all games are winnable so 11 points out of 15 agreeable? I would say so. I do think we will be out of the bottom 2 come the end of next month, just a shame it wasn't the end of this month, Northampton and Bury and Torquay let us down lol

The league is wide open - oxford weren't anything special and they top the league, portsmouth distinctly mediocre and cheltenham were rubbish, to name just a few. If we do the simple things right, we can beat any of them.

Then again, they may know something about you that they don't want him to know!

Mr T is the main man, followed by Cashy and Redraine, with Yonmon writing the lyrics and providing the humour. For unbiased match reporting see shaker maker. :)

Excellent.
If your offering lifts and I'm still alive, then put me down as reserving shot gun please.

I was going to ask if you where driving to Scunthorpe on the 16th Nov but it looks like I have got a lift sorted.

Can I bring my boyfriend John? He is currently unemployed but has an impeccable knowledge of lower league football and a tremendous ability to get small clubs promoted beyond their wildest dreams.
You may find that you like him.

I was told Mr.Jeffers was in contact with Chester but they where not in a position to get near his demands.
I think it was mentioned on BBC Merseyside during Deva talk.

Wonder how much they are offering him in wages in Brunei?
Must be a comfortable 4 figures a week.

You've a lift, but I couldn't drive that far listening to a pair of Scousers without an interpreter .

Re: El Classico !!....Morecambe match thread .

I will be gutted if he gets the Bury job.
I suspect he will have to drop down to the conference to get another job, the Rochdale experience has certainly damaged his reputation in the game.
I think their relegation from league 1 was inevitable when he took over; a bit naïve on JC thinking he could turn them around.
Its a shame that 12 months at Rochdale can do as much damage as his years of success at Stanley.

Hope he gets another league job, but I'm now of the opinion Beattie should be given the month of November to prove himself now we are back in reach of the rest of the league.
Still think we are desperately short in central midfield and it will cost us points.

I am a massive JC fan,a real football man,but must admit I am warming to the changes JB is bringing to Acci,he will succeed,as he's got the same fire as JC. He's had to build a new team and is learning all the time,we've never had a stronger squad when everyone's fit

Who're the weak links in midfield in your opinion?

DAV007 27-10-2013 21:38

Re: El Classico !!....Morecambe match thread .

There are 2.
Joyce who has flattered but never delivered in the past 3 years.
Murphy who for all his effort is not a football league central midfielder.

The wingers are not great either.

I think we can do a lot better.

Nothing wrong with taking a chance on a player,
everything wrong with keeping with the same player who is not performing.

In years gone bye,we have struggled to fill the bench, now we have good competition in most areas , I did say squad, not first eleven
