Dan did state that players who don't have a club can still be signed so maybe that's an indication if Coley still wants a striker!

hard to imagine a decent striker at our level is still without a club.

Re: 2016/2017 Squad ......Signings

If you count the 3 players out on loan we now have a squad of 30 players whilst I agree we need a good striker 31 players is too many I think when you need to keep a happy dressing room too many players sat in the stands picking up a wage for not playing can create an unhappy environment we have plenty of numbers but have we got enough quality in depth.

I'm sure the lads who have left all had their own valid reasons, probably all different - I don't think it would do anyone any good to try & unearth whatever those reasons were, we all need to get 100% behind the lads we have now at the club - no use looking back & wondering, we need to concentrate on the here & now not the what ifs

don,t single sean out for a move from league to non league football. its been done by many. look at eastleigh for a start. my old man went part time for the money and that was in the 1930,s. plus i think sean was sold a pup in his move.

Interesting. Do we actually want a target man? Isn't our current weakness getting a grip on midfield more so that we can be a bit more productive down the wings? I like having little fast blokes up front.
Still, worth a try. Just as long as our defence stays intact.

I've heard Coley was initially after Raheem Sterling but lost interest when he wouldn't be fit for the Chesterfield game.

Dawber did get a move to Fulham but is being 3rd/4th choice keeper at Fulham any better than being 2nd choice at Stanley?

Andrew left Fulham after a year, following loan spells at Aldershot and Bishops Stortford. He's now first-choice keeper for Altrincham, who are in the lower half of National League North.

I agree with Macca. Nathan is 18 and Max is 19. Surely they are old enough to merit a place at least on the bench - if they are good enough. There is little point in extolling the virtues of our academy and youth teams if they are producing only a very occasional player of League ability.

Lord Didsbury 05-10-2016 15:26

Re: 2016/2017 Squad ......Signings

In the good old days there was good reason to develop young players since there was a bit more loyalty and a decent youngster might stick around for a few years and save a club having to buy someone.

At the top level it's still probably worth it because one good youngster out of 20 trainees might be worth £40 million.

What's the economics with Stanley? They get a player coming through, he's half decent, plays for a year then buggers off on a free?

Am I being the overly naive?

The point on this occasion is that we've brought in GTF because we have injuries to forward players. We do it a lot. If were not going to trust the young lads enough to fill in on occasion then it's pointless having them. We had Carver sitting around for nigh on four years just in case he suddenly turned into Vardy. Its not fair on them and its a waste of our limited cash.

I have this nagging doubt that Super Billy Kee may not be all that super any more. I've never seen Terry in his glory days so have yet to get excited about him.

So I'm rather encouraged by the enthusiasm shown about Stanley Fletcher. I'm visualising him as our Ravanelli. Strong, prolific and grey. Please tell me this comparison is a fair one?

Bit early to wax lyrical about GTF, although to be fair he did his bit yesterday & hopefully will be a good addition to the squad I doubt he's up to playing for 90 minutes.
Terry worked hard but struggled on his own up front against their bigger players - why the doubts over Billy, as far as I've seen he's not given any cause for concern & still gives his all for the team

I can understand the doubts over Billy. He's still scoring goals for us, but his overall contribution doesnt seem the same as last year. Its not lack of effort but he is getting banged about like nobodies business. Almost every game he goes down needing lengthy treatment for head injuries. And he's not the sort who goes down just so they can have a rest.

i,ve said it once i,ll say it again billy needs some big lump up front with him to help him out and to take some of the battering he gets. should be getting more protection from referees but thats another story.

Would love to see Billy alongside a genuine target man.

As to relatively poor form, I don't think he's 100% fit and also this year he hasn't got forward players of the calibre we had last year (Windass,Mingoia and Crooks). I think as a unit we are less convincing going forward.

I'd still take a 90% Billy over Terry.

Even with the squad as it is I still think we can win the league due to our defence.
With a more effective centre of midfield I'd be sure we could win the league. With a better forward line as well I'd be convinced.

Is it just making more use of the players we have, or adding to the team next transfer window?

I'm convinced we can at least make the play offs this season, with the players we got, the defence i reckon is immense this season, the signing of the owd chap will i think make a big difference to our forward play, theres only midfield looks a bit light to me.
