Does anyone actually know, the last time we went 15 unbeaten? or if we ever done 18? cos if we do we sure deserve a shot at the playoffs.

If Newport do the double over us next Saturday, then it's all over.
However, if we win, we can carry on dreaming.
But even if we win all our remaining games, we could still just miss out.
After last seasons finale, that's the likeliest outcome.

Newport got a 6-1 thrashing today, If we could do the same next week we may scrape through on Goal difference. The points and the goal difference are the deciders.

Looking at the table you'd have to say that if we get 9 points chances are we'll make the playoffs. Seven points is unlikely to be enough, but we still might fluke in. No chance if we only get six.

Is it a mathematical impossibility though lord, fixture wise?

Lord Didsbury 18-04-2017 07:39

Re: Playoffs

Not a mathematic impossibility but I'd say with the number of other teams on 62pts+ that it's unlikely they will all fail to get 4-6 points. It's also unlikely two others will win all three.
But yes, I'm guessing!

This weekend sees teams above us having easy looking games. We need to win of course and probably best scenario is two of them will fail to win?

Re: Playoffs

Wouldn't say the teams above us have easy games, Cambridge have Pompey, Mansfield have Stevenage, Colchester have Plymouth

Re: Playoffs

Well ..... Wycombe, Colchester and Cambridge are playing promoted Doncaster, Plymouth and Portsmouth. Pompey have no chance of becoming champions but should want to put on a show at a Fratton promotion party. The other two hopefully both want the no 1 spot so should be up for it.

Luton and Blackpool will expect to win at home against Notts County and Cheltenham, Carlisle on recent form may struggle at Crawley but the critical issues I think are whether the Shrimps can keep being our best friends and nick something at Exeter, and if Mansfield can do the same at Stevenage, where someone in the mix is going to drop points. My assume-we-win-the-lot  guessing stick currently says Blackpool, Exeter and Stanley will finish 6th, 7th and 8th on 71 points, behind Luton (74) and Stevenage (72) meaning goal difference would knock us out of the playoffs. My sums assume Exeter and Stevenage win on Saturday. But if either of them drop points and we don't, it's still on .

And of course if we don't win all three, that's (realistically not statistically) that :(.

As Di said, no point in worrying about the other sides ..... :D.

Oops! Yes, you are correct of course.... think I was focusing too much on Exeter, Carlisle and Blackpool. The teams in 6th, 7th and 8th.
They have Morecambe (h), Crawley (a) and Cheltenham (h).

There is no easy games this year, anybody could beat anybody we've seen that already

Re: Playoffs

No one can beat us though. We are invincible.

15 is our longest unbeaten run in League 2. Previous best was 14 (13 at the end of 10/11 and the first game in 11/12).

The bad news is the Beeb have finally noticed we're in the mix ....

I doubt it - we'll be lucky to get more than our customary 15 seconds on Channel 5's Goals Rush
