Tried to explain we are in similar position & need to financially support @ASFCofficial -we are making losses & need to get that right first
The CEO's response, were in a similar position apparently, so do we have a winding up order that were not getting told about |
Re: Orient match thread
A difficult one for me. Yes we have been and probably still are in financial dire straits but we have perpetually been under funded through low gates but I have always believed that ultimately we have been run by people that generally cared for the club albeit blinkered at times and incompetently a hell of a lot of the time. Orient I believe are a different entity run by a crook who doesn't give a flying toss about the club but I do feel for their fans because we all know fans are the life blood of any football club.Still see no problem in a bucket collection though causes no harm and shows unity as the footy family, let's face it we've been there!
|
Re: Orient match thread
Poor do. How not to make friends and influence people.
With a response like that, I wouldn't be surprised if Stanley's new club house bar takes less money from away fans than it might otherwise have done. But, presumably, only the police or Council could stop Orient fans collecting beyond the confines of the football ground? |

If it's true that the Club refused then not only is it a disgrace but I hope we are never in a similar position again. Perhaps the club can confirm the reasoning behind this if it is true? |
Re: Orient match thread
Because of Dave burgess refusing the buckets the Orient fans now plan on not spending a penny once inside the ground which will lose us even more money

Re: Orient match thread
Just been reading the Orient fans forum, if what they're saying is true I can't believe we've refused them permission to have a bucket collection - I know DB wasn't around when we were in a similar position but you think he'd have done his homework on how many clubs helped us out in a similar way & be only too glad to help out. What goes around comes around & all that . . . . .
At the end of the day it's up to each individual person if they want to contribute & we shouldn't be subjected to a blanket ban imposed by DB or anyone else |
Re: Orient match thread
Overreaction creeping in here, in my opinion.
The Stanley decision has some sense to it - we are not a rich club. however I do tend to agree, based on this discussion, that we should accommodate their collections in some way. People running organisations have to make decisions all the time, they don't always get them right at first. Generally in situations like this sense prevails, compromise is reached etc etc. give it time to see what happens. |

That is what real football is about not people like Burgess. Thank god he wasn't running the SoS campaign back then! It's not as if they are asking for the money from the club is it? |
Re: Orient match thread
Just read Independent Orient forum, Burgess has just rang and reversed the decision, now the Orient Lads can collect. hope the slimeball apologized.

Orient aren't asking the club to contribute to their cause, just permission to ask our fans to help out a little if they want to & that decision should be each person's - it should not be the club deciding for us! Give it time you say? There isn't much time for the club to do a u-turn with the game being tomorrow night - I really hope they change their mind but even if they don't I wish the Orient fans the best of luck & if I see any of them with even a hint of a bucket I'll be putting my little bit in whether DB likes it or not |

Glad about the change of heart. Treat others as you would wish to be treated. I was going to make a special trip to the Crown to donate to the collection.

Glad to see common sense has prevailed, but this should never have been an issue in the first place. We are the LAST club who should be refusing something like this, firstly, because of the way other fans rallied to our cause in 2009 and, secondly, because of the heartbreak we went through in 1962.

There you go. As predicted.
Anyone not made a bad decision before? As long as you have the good sense to listen to others and not be a stubborn arse about things then all seems pretty good to me. |

Re: Orient match thread
He should have done this, he should have done that... well actually what has happened is that Stanley has now been shown to have very caring fans and a management that listens to them. Plus, Orient have more publicity for their campaign as a result and more likelihood of a better collection tomorrow.
Maybe this can be filed under "storm in a tea cup"? |
Re: Orient match thread
And onto the job in hand.... unchanged team apart from Clark for Clare?
Orient will be desperate for points, but they will be up against the wrong team at the wrong time. 3-1 to us! |
Re: Orient match thread
Glad that decision has been reversed. However it came about, it's the right thing to do.
|
Re: Orient match thread
We may be strapped for cash in this neck of the woods, but the fans of Leyton Orient will find the people of Accrington to be not only sympathetic to their plight but also the most generous.
We don't kick a man when he's down & I for one will be happy to dig deep to support our brothers in their desperation to save their club from the abyss. 'There but for the grace of God' etc. Having said that, my generosity of spirit will end at 7.45pm on Tuesday night. |

Got home, started reading this thread and was appalled at the clubs stance. However, as it evolved, the decision was reversed and common sense has won out. Good luck with the bucket collection and your footballing future Orient, but not no luck on the field please.

Re: Orient match thread
thinking about this some more, and the thought processes that might have been involved.... if I was the recently appointed head of a charity that had organised a 5K race and someone from another charity wanted to come and collect I would no doubt have an inclination to say no.
If someone pointed out to me that my charity had benefited from others in the past I would no doubt change my mind. I would hope that me not grasping the context initially wouldn't instantly disqualify me (in some people's eyes) from running the charity, nor would my political views (providing they don't interfere) or background - and that I'd get some slack and support from within my charity? Obviously this is conditional on generally doing a good job. Maybe I'm being too forgiving, or being overly analytical, but that's how I see it. |

From the sound of things on Sky sports, they are call the chosen one MOM and from what I've seen and heard, I can believe it. WTG Accy.
|
Re: Orient match thread
2 belting goals from Sean tonight, but the pass to play Matt in for the fifth was sublime. Twists, turns, flicks and a thumping tackle first half - fully deserved MOM for Sean.
Hats off for Matty P, 8 goals from open play for a full back? |

I like the latest form table!
League Two Full Form Guide Football - Sports Mole |
Re: Orient match thread
Got to say that was the best individual performance by a player in the lower leagues I've seen since watching John Sheridan dismantle teams single handed.
His first half tackle appeared, in hindsight, to be a statement of intent for the mesmerising stuff that followed. Admittedly we were playing a very poor team left groggy by our best performance of the season. Every player had a blinder but more importantly the way they were at Orient from the start, the movement and passing and running at their defence. Just a joy to watch. |
Re: Orient match thread
For me the best 90 min display of the season first half coulda been 3/4 up, super sean put across some great corners, second half kept it up and got exactly what we deserved 2 great strikes from Mac and deserved MOM we even clapped the announcement. well played stanley the tables looking much better now.:)Must add Rodak had little to do tonight, but never let his guard drop, made a couple of vital stops has come on in leaps and bounds.
|
Re: Orient match thread
Sean's half way line goal has gone down as an own goal as it hit crossbar and hit the keeper before crossing line

Re: Orient match thread
Good point re the Keeper, Cashy.

Re: Orient match thread
Quite simply the most sublime team performance I've witnessed this season.
It was a night when everything went right for Stanley & everything went wrong for Orient. They were far from the worst team I've seen at the Wham this season and despite the scoreline, they never gave up trying, although we were in a different class tonight. Strangely, any euphoria I feel about such a total victory is tinged with real sympathy for the 200 odd Orient faithful who made the long journey north on a Tuesday night, only to see their team humiliated. When you're rock bottom of the EFL & facing financial oblivion, it takes real dedication to show such loyalty. They deserve nothing but our respect. Theirs is a club with a longer history than ours & I wish them well in their battle to stay afloat. As for us, could it be that which we thought impossible, may actually be......... POSSIBLE! |
Re: Orient match thread
we played well tonight, using the flanks well and cleverly we didnt send our full backs forward to often which helped nullify the threat from orient down the wings.
As good as we played, they were a very poor team. There best player was their left winger 22 Semedo although their number 6 Parkes put a shift in, giving 100%. They had nothing in central midfield and it kept them on the back foot as they rarely retained possession and their midfield provided no support to the forward line. 28 Koroma had a good chance for them in the 2nd half but he showed himself to be completely one footed and as he spent time to get the ball onto his right foot, the chance was blocked. McConville MOM but Clark also deserves a mention as he never stopped and showed good ball control. Good move from Coleman to bring on Husin in the 2nd half, he looked decent. |
Re: Orient match thread
one issue = there are no bins around the club shop/offices area of the main stand before the game - can the club please look at providing one?
|
Re: Orient match thread
excellent game, but just one gripe, we seemed to relax too much in a 20 min. spell after our second goal and did nothing. if they,d had scored then it could really have been a different game.

Re: Orient match thread
'excellent game, but just one gripe, we seemed to relax too much in a 20 min. spell after our second goal and did nothing. if they,d had scored then it could really have been a different game.'
I thought this too. We picked up after Coley mad his subs. I thought Edwards should have been on 10 mins sooner. Disagree with Coley assessment of game. Thought we were better in first half than second. Switched off a bit in third quarter and could easily have let a better/more experienced team back into the game. Some cracking goals, skills and a big sigh of relief as we are now effectively safe. Bit ominous when BBC described Matty P as highly rated. Is it time now to get a few of this squad signed up? |
Re: Orient match thread
Monkey Hanger and inspector - I agree too. I started to feel a bit nervous for a while.
Had a look through the Orient forum and I do feel very sorry for them. Seems their team is just a bunch of kids out of their depth that can't defend set pieces. Someone even posted at half time "we will concede another from a set piece within the next 10 mins. We always do". The second Sean goal must have been a massive kick in the nuts though. Some idiot called "ASFC Nick" on their forum winding them up and being a classless arse on our behalf. There's a time and place for everything and it's not now. |

I thought this too. We picked up after Coley mad his subs. I thought Edwards should have been on 10 mins sooner. so did i. scored the equaliser against doncaster then never gets a look in. even terry gornell got longer a couple of games ago and did nothing. would love to see edwards get more game time from now to the end of the season as at least he looks lively. |

Here is what I would do in coleys shoes; Parish - release Pearson - tie down as long as poss Hughes - getting too show for me (borderline) Davies - release Beckles - keep Clark - release if contract up Brown - keep Gornell - keep if coley can get him back to speed Shay - keep Sean - keep Rodak - get back on loan if poss Boco - release asap Clare - send back to weds Husin - need to see more of him looked ok last night Lacey - release Hewitt - release Shaw - release not good enough by far Chapman - keep as #2 Wall - release Webb - release Edwards - send back to hull Sykes - release Connelly - keep Kee - keep Donacien - release Rodgers - I'd do whatever possible to keep but he will be in higher league next year |

We should be magnanimous in victory, not rubbing salt in an open wound. Spent a enjoyable hour in the company of an Orient fan in the Crown after the game. He's also one of our biggest fans & attends most of the southern fixtures actually supporting us! These are loyal fans who are just trying to save their club, after being royally shafted by an absentee owner who's disappeared back to Italy. We've always been regarded as a fan friendly club. Idiots like this can spoil all the goodwill we derive from our generous contributions to their fighting fund. |

Re: Orient match thread
Wow Mr Rocket
9 to keep in the whole squad - and you include Gornell............................ You've put Sykes on the release list. There were a few clubs in for him in January and the offers were turned down. Higher league clubs as well. One to hang on to for me. Why Donacien and Clark on your release list ? Discuss. |
Re: Orient match thread
Quote:
Re: Donacien for me he just charges up and down and gets caught out then blames others, whilst clarky works hard I think we can get better in the summer. It's a buyers market and there will be lots of better free players in the summer I'm sure coley will be looking already |
Re: Orient match thread
Isn't this verbal ejaculation about next year's squad just a little premature; what will we have to talk about in June and July?

Re: Orient match thread
Re Sykes
Only seen once (against Crewe) but played very well. I would suggest he's one to keep hold off. |
