folks in my neck of the woods are proudly telling me about Pompey's elevation. I simply reply "oh, d'ya mean Stanley reserves" - kills the conversation stone dead !

We'll have you? When a guy says he's not leaving as he loves the club just 2 week ago what other reason would he have, he isn't stepping up a league or anything just morning to club that's on the decline for more money
