Pell is not the issue - in my opinion! :)

But his type are..........

Too many midfielders 'shoehorned' into the side :(

Pell/Sean playing up front alongside Colby for one!

Far too many midfielders and just not enough goal scorers.......

The Dion thing has bitten us big time!!!!!

:) :)

Difficult to argue with that, Val.
Just look at the first team faces on the Fishy site.
5 ‘strikers’, one of who is crocked and no longer with the club, one injured since he came and, with another, out on loan trying to get fit. So 2 available strikers, one a young, untested player.
Meanwhile, there are 13 midfielders!

Do you put that down to bad recruitment or lack of money or unprepared to pay wage demands. and fees for strikers even young under 23,s high up in the pryamid are on ridiculous salaries.

Hard to say Andy, but we do not need all those midfielders - so that is a bad decision.

We all know about Dion and that hampered us as a) Coley wanted him playing and scoring goals!! b) we had to keep paying him for doing nothing!! c) Whilst Joel was not the finished article, he was OK, but a freak training injury finished him. d) cannot comment about Joe Hardy.

It is as plain as day, we are creating plenty of chances, we just cannot convert them.........

Kayden or Dion and we would be in the play-offs minimum!!!

Those are not simple alternatives.
The two latter reasons (lack of money and the ludicrous costs trickling down from the money laundering excesses of the Premier League Inc) can inevitably result in what, in hindsight, can be termed as ‘bad’ recruitment.
But that’s like blaming someone for the ‘bad’ decision to live in a cold, draughty house because they can’t afford anything better.
I don’t think you can accuse many small clubs of ‘bad recruitment’. They have to cut their cloth. I think Stanley have had and, generally, have ‘good recruitment’ given their financial position.
‘Bad recruitment’ should be reserved for the global businesses that were once English football clubs which splash untold millions on players only for those ‘assets’ to spend their lives on the bench or in the tattoo parlour.

An issue for Stanley’s management to consider now is whether any of those surplus midfielders can become reliable goal scorers. They tried it with Pell and Baghelou. (sp!) up front with little success. Tommy Leigh looks to be trying hard, and Hamilton needs to be given more chances to use that left foot. But, as things stand, there doesn’t seem to be any alternative to end the goal drought.

The midfield is the dynamo of the team, responsible for creating opportunities for the strikers.
We started with both Colby & Korede on Tuesday without effect.
To be fair, most of our goals have come from midfielders, Pell, Butcher etc. both absent on Tuesday.
Add to that the mystery of Pritchard, another missing creative link & the supply of quality balls has evaporated.
Yes, we need our strikers to hit the target but to do that we need our best midfield to play.
It's not a simple question of too many midfielders.
I'd like to bet a midfield of Pell, Butcher & Pritchard would transform our goal tally.

Maybe it would - but you cannot overlook midfield defensive duties.

Maybe we should all pick our best midfield and formation.

Could be a good discussion.

On the recruitment side the thing is with Charles he served the longest notice period imaginable so surely during that period our scouting and contacts should have been in full acceleration to get a replacement in that fitted the bill ?

Instead or at least it looks like from the outside we had a poor window allegedly gazumped and panic last day.

Just compare the side to the one that played the first game of the season to tuesday nights one to see how far the team has gone backward. No matter what we think of departing players we did well to recruit them in the first place. How long we can keep unearthing these players we,ll never know but one season its going to go pear shaped with recruitment i,m sure.

Totally agree young Coyle was doing a good job upto his suspension now seems frozen out, good has Conneely is at that side of the game I by the way am one of his fans during his time here a lot sat around me haven't been unfortunately age and injury catching him up he was blowing hard at beginning of second half and sorry but we need competition in their fitness as well. Doncaster didn't look the fittest side either but waltzed through our midfield has the game wore on.

yes, that fit doncaster side that regularly score first in games and then crumble late on to 3-1 defeats. was never worried until their 2nd went in as i was sure we,d equalise even playing badly.
