After Harvey leaving, Tommy's loss would be massive.

Two or three hundred thousand wouldn't be bad business for a crumb at the last minute table nobody else seemed to want.

If I rumours were correct, Stanley earned a similar figure for the Leeds Utd cup tie in January. The only problem was that the transfer window closed almost immediately afterwards, so the money didn’t strengthen the squad for the latter half of the season. The results of which we now live with.
The current transfer window doesn’t close until September 1st, by which time Stanley will have played five games.
So, like what happened with Burgess, a valuable player can get sold when the season has begun and it could be too late to spend the fee on a comparable replacement.
I agree with his Lordship - I’d rather Tommy stays for at least the first half of the season rather than our best players are sold off and, a month into the season, the club is left struggling to pick up free agents or searching for non-league rough diamonds, again.

Stanley got £110k for TV the gate under £100k after expenses and VAT at £25pp etc, even before concessions factored in, so won't be half of £300k.

Basic maths.

Good luck to the lad but I was hoping he wouldn’t be ‘trimmed’ as he appeared to be a useful and adaptable player.
But, heh ho, no doubt he’ll be replaced by someone even better at half the price.

Re: Who should be on the retained list?

I always like Mo Sangare when he played, but his injury history doesn't make good reading.

Going off Andy Holt's comments in his recent video interview, having players on the payroll who seem prone to injury isn't going to be an option this season.

Of course, injuries can't be anticipated, but a player's history can be a factor in mitigating risk.

We still have a squad of 27 players 13 of which are classed has midfielder,s, Liegh could well be sold on if the interest rumours come to fruition personally think Shaun Whalley, Bailey Sloane and David Morgan could well be others that are possible,s for moving on.

Shaun Whalley had the MOST appearances of any player in last year’s season and, I recall, didn’t have many, if any, injuries.
If injury history is the metric, would he be a possible to be ‘trimmed’ when there are others, of equal age or less, who were plagued with recurrent injuries?

Re: Who should be on the retained list?

Listening to Jimmy Bells interview on Lancashire Sport it sounds like they are still working on budgets and seeing if any of their targets would be affordable says we have the making,s of a decent squad but foremost in the thinking is to compete at this level and avoid a further drop, also it sounds as if the players have all been made aware of were they stand so I assume they know who they want moved on, wouldn't name names on potential targets for other clubs but said six or seven fit that category and hopefully all will stay but obviously any bids that do come in have to be looked at in the best interests of the club.

I hope I’m wrong but I fear, as was often the case in the past, Stanley will not have finalised a squad until the away game at Notts County.

Is it me or since the club have progressed so well and professionally off the pitch with the stadium and the hub and all the great facilities and the academy,s the playing side or football side we seem to be losing our way especially in the recruitment department.

Re: Who should be on the retained list?

I might be in a minority, but if it were not for the terrible luck with injuries, we would have survived last season......?? :)

Injuries lead to players being played out of position, this lead to some poor discipline.

It lead also to players like Dan Martin and Aaron Pickles - to name but two - playing far more than would have been expected!!

Add to that some terrible performances - more than are acceptable.

Also - and I am not a Cashyite - bad decisions from the officials.

We have lost one of our best players in Mitch Clark, we cannot lose too many more like him......

Look at the difference Seamus made when he came back at the death, had he have played 5 more games, we would not have been going to Barrow :)

In the grand scheme of things though Val this post is irrelevant we have gone down and the ship has to be steadied and that's what Jimmy Bells interview was referring too my point is are the recruitment " team " upto it or not time will tell but off to anything that isn't a " decent " start do you think our management duo could be sailing closer to the last chance saloon.

Re: Who should be on the retained list?

Nothing much changes according to Jimmy Bells latest interview no money or very little targets required Goalkeeper, couple of defenders a left back and a couple of forwards preferably a couple of experienced lads but shopping in the young hungry market in general. Revealed that Cole Stockton was a big target last season but ironically now he was a free agent we couldn't compete financially with Burton who have signed him.

I know there seems less and less to believe from the BBC these days but am I reading this report on Mitch Clark correctly?

It implies that he ‘got off’ with what appears to be a slapped wrist in part because he bet that Stanley would lose….but did not benefit financially!

Jings, given the results Stanley had last season it doesn’t say much of his gambling prowess that he picked to bet against his team mates in one game that didn’t end in a loss.

Ridiculous he's got away with a suspended ban bet on over 300+ games 3 which his own side were playing in Stanley did right getting rid and then he has the nerve to say " he,ll be back one day " stinks.

I agree, Val, but what’s puzzling is why the apparent change of approach from the football authorities - from draconian to lenient - wouldn’t have anything to do with the ubiquity of gambling sponsorship in the game?

We only had 6 players left as signed on after last season due to having to let all the more expensive ones leave because of ongoing ownership problems.

I think we have signed 8 or 9 but there's been a few knocks in training although I don't know why they didn't send a few of the academy players.

We are at Warrington on Saturday so hopefully that will be fulfilled !

According to their fans forum they were glad to see him a lot wondering like us if it's permanent or a loan but they said he had a very ring rusty 45 minutes no surprise has he,s hardly played in the last 2 years, if he does leave on loan can't see Southport paying the wages so doesn't solve our problems in that department it's a strange one.

Thanks, Michael, for your contribution to Stanley. Good luck wherever you move on to.

Don't know about defenders andyd, we couldn't even score at home against the amateurs of Clitheroe.
Who the hell was leading our strikeforce?

Absolutely spot on Cashy. Changed the game today when he came on. Should have been given more game time season last when others in the team playing a similar position were dire.

I told JC that Arthur Scargill was the pits!
Assume Christian 'hat-trick' Norton didn't feature?

Thought Dan Martin also did well. He's very comfortable on the ball and i think he has the makings of a really good player.

George Burrows 20 years old centre half released by Coventry was one trailist playing today.

Not a surprise, as he was one of the three in 'negotiations'...

Gutted he has gone and I wish him all the best for the future - hope he does not go back to Gresty Road....

All that being said, of the three - we signed up the most important one in my opinion ;)

:)

Season hasn't even started & some comments on here have already reminded me why I stopped posting on here last year - thought I'd give it another go but some things will never change

Apologies AccyMad.
I was relying on the fishy website, which even at 10.30pm tonight was still showing the match result as Stanley 0 - 0 Clitheroe???

All the friendlies have shown as 0-0 on the Fishy website.

Nolan, Devenport and Sloane who was ironically the reason the Clitheroe friendly was arranged.

Notts has signed for Livingston - hopefully he can make sure Mo gets to the right ground at the right time for the rest of the season

Re: Who should be on the retained list?

Looking at what is happening Coleman is looking at a more younger hopefully fitter squad with a spattering of experience wether they gell and are successful time will tell but one thing we need less people on the treatment table hopefully.

Re: Who should be on the retained list?

First signing through the door 19 year old centre half Brad Hills from Norwich on a season long loan according to Norwich he is the pick of the bunch amongst their youngsters and has been included a few times in the first team squad sounds on paper a decent signing, apparently very good in the air and according to Norwich very comfortable in possession welcome aboard.

Re: Who should be on the retained list?

Rodgers, Nottingham, Clark, Sangare, Delfonshue, Hardy, Touray, Scully, Lusiama, Proctor, Hood, Perritt, Fenlon, Carson and Pleavin 15 players plus all loanees who have left Stanley since the start of last season a couple moved of their own accord I think but that is some cull and a lot never made a league appearance, a big waste of Stanley,s biggest budget and we are paying the price of spending for spending sake this close season. Maybe if we have a good season it could be a lesson learnt but on a negative view it could prove disastrous for the management duo and the club.

I am trying to remain positive but i really hope we are not going all out this coming season using young players/loanees without football league experience.

Glad you're remaining optimistic Watchdog because that's exactly what's looking likely.
When you struggle to match current salaries & have zero transfer funds, you end up with Hobson's choice.
Let's just hope the management team can mine some rough diamonds & avoid the fools gold.
