Some time ago, someone asked about the cannons that used to be in Oak Hill Park. Finally found the picture.

Think it was before that, from the position of the bandstand in the front of the trees, the cannons appear to be where the war memorial is now.
There used to be cannons on the Coppice, before WW2, they may be the same ones. I remember sitting on those cannons in the 1930's.
John Kelly found the remains of one of the trunnions some years back.

Nice photo - like the hand-tinting!
Was at Oakhill today, they still haven't fastened the WW2 plaque back in place! Surely not a major job?

They were supposed to be having some one look into repairing it last week, daughter has'nt heard any thing, she still has the plaque stashed away so the vandals can't wreck it.
Trouble is the repairs done by the previous Bogit & Legit, instead of cleaning off the previous mortar, was just a few more trowels full of mortar splashed on the back, as a result the plaques stand out further each time, instead of the 1/4 inch like they did in the first place, leaving more space for water to seep behind.
Instead of wasting money on street parties, they should spend some on the Memorial

Re: Old accy picrures

There is still to this day a brass plaque on a door in Barnes Street, referring to a shoe company. Maybe the same place this firm you mention once operated from. (its the houses just higher up than Barnes Street garage).
