Re: The Palladium.
Those houses at the top of Rutland St are being used by the Fire service for practice they have used them for months to try new equipment on.
By the way Doug i used to live at Number 2 Rutland St first house on left from Blackburn Rd gable end .

'Cause I work for the Group, and blatently asked one of the Directors today, told me a definite 'No'... could be lying though to cover up a forward plan.
They were planning, at one stage, of turning Clifton Mill into a hotel but, at the moment, has been put on the shelf for future considertion. Maybe your source getting a little confused with this.
I think the Palladium idea is good though as excellent position and could encourage a decent bar. Lot of work though, eh? Best to knock it down and start again.

At least that's good news for the chap that I know. He made an enquiry to the owners only a week ago about buying the palladium to restore it to its original beauty. His plan is to show old films alongside modern non-mainstream films.

That would be fantastic.
I used to feel so peeved when I was a child that Ossy's only cinema only showed Asian language films. It would be wonderful to have a non-mainstream cinema.

Re: The Palladium.
The rumour continues.
My source knows the family.
Still may be false, but you never know.

Re: The Palladium.
Those pictures are so sad. I used to look at it every day when I was at Ossy Tech and my mum and I had the occasional girly night there.
It's such a shame and I do hope someone turns it into something good.

Re: The Palladium.
Although I'd love it to be a working theatre again, I'd be equally as happy if someone did something with it. It's such an eyesore and one of the first things people see when they drive into Ossy. Good luck to whoever gets it.

Re: The Palladium.
Not sure as I was whizzing past in a cab, but it looked like the for sale sign that's been there for years has been taken down.

Mick. I don’t remember the number of the house on Rutland Street. It was about 7 or 8 houses up on the left looking up from Blackburn Road. I remember it being a little run down and the doors didn’t fit the holes.
In the mornings you would find slug trails everywhere and the Mice would challenge you the slightest scrap of food. I remember my girlfriend going white with fear when she saw foot prints in the lard that was left in the frying pan.
Can I say at this point that it was in the late 70s and the house wasn’t continuously occupied? It was used by my father for storage and occasional nights when he was off duty from Calderstones. It was a clean house but the condition of the door steps made them like Motorways for local wildlife. Very Happy memories.

Thanks for the photos Mick. The place looks so much more desolate in that view than when I was passing.
I’m intrigued by this buildings former history. What was it built for originally? It appears to be warehouse or Mill like from the gable end. Anybody got any period pictures of the building when in use or beyond its days as a theatre.
I didn’t notice the “gitso” stuck down at the lower end when I was over there last. Let’s hope it didn’t notice me?

Re: The Palladium.
Anyone know what is currently happening to the Palladium, seems rather quiet.
