Excellent result and, as we all know, that is all that counts. But I am struggling to feel elated.
Stanley started well, fast, accurate passing, closing down opponents in their own half, attacking. A early goal, for a change, was a great start. Joy was unconfined.
But for the remaining 65-70 minutes I felt Crawley played slightly better football.
Too many times it was frantic defence from Stanley, booting the ball out to no one, two players going for the same ball (although better than three on Tuesday night). How can Stanley ever expect to release pressure when they never leave even one player on the half way line?
There were some battling performances, but taking Woods out of the front line really seemed to reduce the attacking threat, although Josh did well to lay on the goal for Devon. Charlie Caton,s two goals were scrappy and epitomised much of Stanley,s play. But well done to him for grabbing both of them.
Both he and Woods are much improved and young Borland did OK, but Stockton,s qualities remain to be discovered..
