Heatwave

Sounds grim :(

A cool breeze would be nice.

Now it looks like we are not going to get a twister in K'town ... Ottawa is right in the middle of the danger area ... pity parliament isn't in session:D But we are still up for severe thunder storms.:mosher:

i was sat in my car this afternoon with the engine running while relaxing with the air conditioning on

in theory i was helping to keep the good weather up by destroying what i can of the ozone :D

Well done Accyman, i`ve been spraying as many aerosols as I can. We`ve all got to do our bit.:D

I have no air conditioning, but my middle room gets no sun, so it stays relatively cool, but our bedroom has the sun all afternoon.......I pull down the blackout blind......I only open the window once the sun has gone down, and recently I have been taking a large bottle of icy water to bed with me to put my feet on.......and this has worked for me. I have slept fairly well....Oh, I also moisten a flannel with cold water and wipe over my face neck and arms before retiring(simulating the cooling action of perspiration).

thank you Margaret p for the tip ... I filled hot water bottles ... and oh my bed is lovely and cool .. got some proper kip last night for the first time since this started ... :D theyre in my bed again tonite .. so I may just make the railway tomorrow ... :p:p:p

Better batten down the hatches Eric. Just in case.!

Hell no! No battening of hatches for me ... popped the tops on a few cold ones, smoked a couple of joints and enjoyed the free sound and light show. There was some damage ...

Ontario, Quebec clean up after powerful storms - Canada - CBC News

... but it seems as if the storms have cleared things up a little; and for the next few days it looks like we are getting a break from the brudal (that's Canadian for "brutal", eh;)) heat.

Then hoo'l bi witchurt:eek: (Ya'll feel free to correct my Lancashire;)). Oh ... and where else, other than the feet, would you put socks:confused: It would look kinda dumb if you stuffed them up your nose.:D
When i were a kid, we used socks instead of gloves in the snow.

Heatwave! Ha! What you are experiencing is more like mild summer weather here in the Land of Oz. Crocodile Dundee said ‘you call that a knife, THIS is a knife’ well, you call that a heatwave……
When a friend visited from Clayton some time ago Mother Nature really turned it on for him. 45 degrees!!!! Have to admit that WAS a bit excessive.
Presently sitting here shivering in 14 degrees I am very envious of your current weather, and looking forward to our warmer stuff.

dotti..usually our summers are like your bad winters...so this is a bit of a change for us.
I have spent many summers in Oz, and that is where I learned my tips for coping with the heat.
I'm just grateful that we don't have the spiders and the snakes as well.

it rained this morning .. very fine rain only for about 5mins ... is this the end of the heatwave? .. yes it was probably because I was up at 7.30am doing my washing ...:p

My thoughts entirely Margaret, my two most hated things especially spidders, ughhhhh;)

Hi Margaret, you certainly do learn how to cope when you have to, and do have to be sensible. In the early years of us being out here, and without the luxury of air conditioning, the kids would play under the water hose – watering the lawn at the same time. By evening the indoors would be very hot and so we would put the TV outside to watch. Slept outside many times – the only danger in those days being from the mossies. Sadly it’s a bit different now.
As for spiders the kids had pet ones, very spoilt they were too (the spiders not the kids!) as they (the kids) would catch flies and throw them into the webs. Large one lived in the house for so long that we gave it a name (Sebastian).
Btw, have to tell you that I remember suffering sunburn every year in Lancashire (many years ago) believe it or not. Trying to get that healthy tan look (that’s a joke, Joyce!) used to rub the body with olive oil or coconut oil I think it was (idiot!) and lie out in the sun, cooking! Suffered sunburn, peeling skin – and lots of pain. Then did it all again the next year. Never learnt!
Anyway, I’m sure you will all find ways of coping with the heat. Keep well!
