Do we know when the photographs were taken?

I'd guess about 1983, judging from the white stilettos the two Duranies are wearing at the bus station.

I’m with you there brother :(.

Some of my strongest memories of Accrington come from association with the buses.

I know what you mean Kate; one of the greatest smells was the mixture of wood and leather in the upper saloon of a Guy Arab. Other smells I remember was the diesel and burning exhausts emissions whilst waiting in the ranks. Great memories a sitting in the copper kettle and looking up at the clock wondering if I’d missed my dad for a free ride back up Fern Gore

Think they were taken at different times. The one outside the garage must be pre-74, because it's got the old Accy coat-of-arms on the side, I reckon the one on Union Street has too, although it's a bit more difficult to see. I'll go with your fashion & style expertise on the bus station one, though!

I always remember the 'No Spitting' sign upstairs at the front of the bus.

I always used to think the old ladies downstairs were allowed to spit.:D

The Guy Arab was late 60s or 1970. The union Street shot looks a little later. I have a B&W shot of my dad driving her sister ship No 19 coming down Dill Hill that dates to about 1968.

Me too, Doug. When I was a toddler, we lived at the top of Broadfield Road and I used to love sitting in the window, watching the big double deckers coming up from town. It's my very earliest memory and I've been in love with Accy buses ever since!
