Maybe you're right, it is a big house. I'll ask my mum.

Before my grandad bought our shop in 1946, it was owned by a baker called Sam Boots, who my grandad worked for, and before the First World War it was a chip shop, so maybe the pub would have been there then.

I found this, on the 1871 census.

329 Union Rd., Oswaldtwistle

George RILEY/head/m/38/stone mason & beer seller/Oswaldtwistle
Sophia RILEY/wife/m/40/Housework/Oswaldtwistle
Mary E RILEY/daur/9/Scholar/Oswaldtwistle
Ann RILEY/daur/6/Scholar/Oswaldtwistle
John RILEY/son/4/Scholar/Oswaldtwistle

Oswaldtwistle 1871 Census Data

Which shows you could get a pint there, but sadly doesn't have what it was called.

That's the only pub I really like in Ossy.

I hope so too, there's been enough that've closed.

I really don't think the smoking ban has helped. That was the reason why the landlord of the White Bull in New Lane, gave for getting out.

Reckon landladies were a lot more laidback in those days. Doreen used to quite happily serve us pints in the Globe when we went in at lunchtimes in our AGS uniforms!
