think that was the second pub on the right hand side of Whalley Rd. after coming up the brew/hill to to the canal think the first was the Albion , then the Commercial (another Lion pub) , on the opposite side to Clayton Con club , maybe opposite or a bit higher up than the mortuary ( floaters from the canal) where the bus stop is/used to be .

Re. the Hygiene ......for some reason an old bleach/soap factory is lurking in the back of my brain . I'm thinking Accy-web member Mez may know , and if she doesn't she knows who to ask ;) ;)

Well thanks folks, The Comercial, my brother said is an Indian restaurant now, He said he had his first legal pint in there, it was oppisite the old Empress Cinema, that might be a printers now, and steeljack, the chemical works your thinking of, was the old Dr Lovelace soap works, the Vic Club was across the cut oppisite. Is the mortuary & council yards still there, I remember the stone bus shelter.

About 4 doos higher up than Gayle:D Its still there only its a private house, a mate of mine owns it, its just further down than the Nash Club, you could get to it vie the Straits, turn right at the bottom, or off by where the old fire station was. the locals used to go in through the back door at the botom of Milton Street.

I use to go there too, it was the only pub still open after 11 on a sun night but unfortunately forgot the name myself
