Besides, I always do a quick search if I'm going to post about something that might have been discussed before.

Otherwise we end up with umpteen threads discussing the same things.

Many times we have threads where I've simply posted 'I gave my thoughts on this subject in this linked thread'.

People aren't going to endlessly repeat their thoughts about the same issue, in threads discussing the same thing.

My apologies, had I have discovered a thread already in place on this topic I would have simply added to it in order to raise a fresh awareness. 2005 is some way off for its last post.

I take your point about doing a search for the topic and agree I should consider this option before suggesting future threads.

However, when I raise the issue of people complaining I do mean to the Town's Council. You can blow all the hot air you like here on Accy web but you won't change owt.

Town Councils were abolished round here in 1974.

Perhaps people complain on here, AND to our 'Borough Council', in order to ensure change.

;)

Though even before 1974, and the formation of Hyndburn, Accrington was a Borough Council, and was joined with neighbouring Urban District Councils.

:)

There was no need for the last two posts.

Your point was valid, and it was churlish to be so pedantic.

I apologise.

Mike, this photo is for YOU. Bet you would have stopped this building going up in 1967 if you'd been living in Accrington, eh? :) It supposedly cost £100,000 plus for the office block and shop extensions along Broadway.

Any photos of what it replaced Atarah?

Thank you, for such a speedy reply.

We'll have to change your username to Oracle.

:D

Did it ever have buildings on it, lining Broadway, before the time of the second photograph?

Sorry, Atarah, this is one of the few times when I'd have to disagree with you. There is absolutely no way that block was built in November, 1967. I'd say '63/'64 myself. I know because I was a regular customer at a shop there - Wisemans' Golden Disc bar - in early '67 and possibly even '66.

Isn't there a plaque, on the Town Hall extension part, presumably saying when it was opened, or have I dreamt that?

Yes, I had that in the back of my mind, too. Maybe somebody can have a look and tell us what it says.
