DJ's derogatory remarks about Accrington

I'm sure most of you will have seen or heard about the recent furore that was caused by the remarks made in wasisname's book about the Accrington Pals on the town centre.

The sad truth is he is right in his reference to the limits there are on shops in Accrington Town centre. Take away the pound shops and the charity shops and we'd be struggling to see another retailer in the town.

And I am still trying to figure out why more residents haven't complained bitterly about the delapidated state of the offices at the back of the town hall. They were blue and white when erected in the 60s and no doubt looked very smart at the time but now they are a terrible eyesore. I understand the council lease part of the building for the Benefits offices but who uses the rest of the building, I don't know. My view is, if it belongs to someone else, like a private company, surely the council has the byelaws to tell the owners 'Clean it up or else we will and charge you for it!'.

I am hoping attention is going to be given to this building at the council's next regeneration board meeting. Chamber of Trade tell me they have been trying to get something done about them for 11 years. It's a disgrace and a massive blot on Accrington's shopping centre. can you imagine putting up Christmas decorations or bunting for a royal occasion in your living room with the wall paper hanging off the walls and the paint peeling! Because that is how it is when the council decorate the Broadway shopping area with the 60s offices looking more like a Greek tramp ship from the same era!

Think the original poster is raising a specific question about Rindys favourite downtown building and using the DJs book as point of reference , think the thead title is a bit misleading ;) :D

the third and fouth paragraphs seem to be the main point of the post

Again, of which there's already a thread.

In fairness its last posting was made in December 2005 so I hope I can be forgiven for not seeing it.

You might need an eye test.

That was taken when we had our all expenses paid community art flash mob event.

Can't you see the four hundred dancers, all frolicking in unison, and the large crowds gathered to watch 'em?

:rolleyes::D

Why is it that when someone brings up a problem in Accrington, the best some members can do is berate them for not knowing that it has been discussed before ?

(OK .. I have had a go at Bee once … so forget that .. we know he is just a plant.)

It is a serious blot on Broadway and has not been ignored by the powers that be. Welcome him to this cause … not childishly criticise him for being ignorant of past discussions on Accyweb.

Mike is now pushing this at the Civic Trust meetings and, due to the fact we had someone attend that was employed in the regeneration of Hyndburn, extracted a promise that it would be addressed again.

So, why not welcome this ‘brother’ to the cause, in the hope that other people are bringing pressure to resolve this monstrosity of an eyesore.

Can't see the problem of pointing out other discussions on the subject, and Mike didn't seem particularly offended, unlike some of us when we read one of his comments ;)

Bullocks.

If you're going to start a thread, which refers to the Stuart Maconie story, Margaret R was quite right to point out that there is a thread that discusses this story, and helpfully link it, so the thread starter who wasn't aware of this, could read the comments that have already been made.

Your little chum says he is...

'Still trying to figure out why more residents haven't complained bitterly about the delapidated state of the offices at the back of the town hall.'

I, like Margaret R didn't 'berate' anyone. I simply linked a thread, which shows peoples' thoughts on this building.

A simple search would have shown that in fact 'residents have bitterly complained' about this many times on this forum, in these threads...

Please don't take this as, and I quote,

'childishly criticise him for being ignorant of past discussions on Accyweb.'

but helpfully pointing a newbie to information they might find interesting.

Just as I kindly posted the photograph of the building in question, for anyone who hasn't the foggiest what was being discussed.
