Some years ago ,while working as a full-time English teacher for SKF (bearings and engineering), one of my aeronautical engineer students told me he'd never flown, even after having studied the theory of flight, as he still didn't believe it was possible for a plane to stay up there! Worrying...

of course, if the wing did not flex it would be brittle.
When they build aircraft, Boeing etc have to bend a wing until they break. Typically Boeings go to Twice the design limit before snapping, even then you would still have some aerodynamic lift, so it would be the end of the world.

The secret of the Theroy of flight really revolves around the 'lift fairys' and the fresh buttered toast syndrome, all jet aircraft have a endless supply of fresh buttered toast stuck under the wing butter side up, because as we all know buttered toast always lands butter side own!
I thing Airbus use cats? But not flown one

I once sat on the fence at Heathrow and watched the Jumbo Jets landing and taking off, how the hell they ever managed it I still don't know, just wonder why Howard Hughes Spruce Goose only flew once that was supposed to be one big baby too

I once sat in a plane at Heathrow, about 1997 I think, in a line of about 13 waiting to take off -was with my sons and flying back to Milan. We saw Concorde taxi in -that really was a beautiful plane, my boys were thrilled and still remember it now! Shame we didn't see it take off...

Flying courtesy of Crab airways, when you see the spanner monkey in his covveys, balancing along the seat backs & tightening nuts & bolts (for the aileron cables) with an adjustable while the Herky bird is in flight puts you right off the in-flight grot boxes you'd been given, soggy tomato soaked bread & limp lettuce adorning slices of cheese possessed somehow loose their grip of terror. ;)

As joe louis (i think it was him ) said when he was coming over the pond ,the question was" Joe why are you going by boat to England you can take the plane " his answer was "well i can swim a bit but cant fly an inch".
