I think they shut the north airport after that.

Flew into it once a few years ago in mist - not pleasant.

It's not convenient for mum's though so always fly to Tenerife Sur Reina now - 20 mins from mum's. Hope to be going soon for a bit of winter sunshine.:)

Providing the procedures are followed, everything is fine.
Remember we have families and want to get home too.

Absolutely. Can't get over what a tiny space you have to work in though considering the size of a plane.

Oh, and when the Captain speaks to the passengers giving some details of the flight, it's one of the high-lights of the trip;):D

[quote=Boeing Guy;962945]Kai Tak was the old Homg Kong Airport, very hairy, not nice.

Last time into Kai Tak was '79 in a VC-10. Take off was on the causeway out to sea - pucker time.
I know it was open for a few years more until they built the island for the new airport

Know what you mean John. I flew a few times in the 60s/70s. Last couple of times were when I was in the States for a year, went to Mexico City and seemed to be skimming the rooftops, then back from there to New Orleans where it was all sea until we landed. Hated it so much have not flown since, came back from US on a Polish liner.

Have since visited many countries by sea/ road/ rail including Greenland. Prefer the slower travel as it acclimatises you rather than dumping you at an airport with a whopping change of climate and jet lag.

I can understand the concern about flying, however it is the safest form of transportation.
I would rather fly than go on a Italian cruise liner
