How can the mods know who did it?

I think you are correct, a quick P.M. To the mods with details can have them checking who actually sent it.

Moderators can see who sends karma messages, even though the recipient can't.

That's how they can, and do, deal with karma messages that break forum rules, by swearing, or are offensive etc., which again, is against forum rules.

That's probably a bettter explanation.

When offensive karma messages are reported, the mods have the ability to find out who it was from, and deal with the matter how they see fit.

This still leaves the system open to abuse - if that karma recipient had not PM'd me, I and he, would never have known the deception.

I still think it is designed to produce discord so will stick with my decision to abandon using it.

If the deviousness has been exposed and the offender is sorted out then i think you should carry on using Karma Margaret, don't let the odd rotten apple spoil the barrel...

This exposes the karma to be no more than a divisive, childishly petty system which is open to abuse (which more than likely was the reason it was devised)

I refuse to acknowledge the existance of 'karma' any more, and will not be awarding any from now on.

Margaret, I cannot believe that you would allow yourself to be manipulated by another member on here.

The person may have been trying to get a rise out of you.....and you have allowed them to.
Not what I would expect from you at all. As Cashy says in his signature 'Don't let the b's grind you down.'

so it was me you meant to message then?

I would not have seen this if Neil had not quoted it.

Re: Power - Karma

So thats it solved.

It has made me aware of how open to misuse, and divisive it is.

I still say I wont be using it again. It detracts from the good neighbourly feeling that a local forum should encourage.

Ya Margaret, but with you bringing this up, no doubt there are people on the site who don't know they can be traced, by airing this you have done the site a big favour
