Is a Complaint in order?
 
Got some Cheddar cheese from the Asda last week. Opened the cheese on Tuesday. I returned the cheese to fridge in an airtight container ( still in its plastic wrapping but folded over at the opened end )

On taking the cheese out for a nibble 10 mins ago, I saw that mould was starting to form on the cheese at the unopened end.

Display until date is blank. Use by date is 31st December.

There must be something wrong here surely. The cheese doesn’t appear to have a snowballs chance in hell of reaching the end of this month, let alone next month.

Am I right thinking this is not good or does this happen with cheese and I just have not noticed. I intend to complain but not sure if this is natural or not. :confused:

I would complain, you have nothing to lose and maybe some vouchers to gain.

I am bloody sick of Asda ..... roll on tesco's :(

When I get cheese from Asda I usually get Mild Cheddar cheese. Mature cheddar is awful, and it burns my mouth when I eat it.
3 times in a row I opened my MILD cheddar cheese, only to find out it was MATURE cheddar in the wrong package.:(


My gripe this week is, opened a tins of processed peas. They were Yellow and like bullets!! If I had cooked them for a week they would have still been rock hard!!

Bloody sick of that store now.:(

I would take it back to asda, with the packaging and the recipt if you still have one? There won't be any problems, they will refund your money or give you a new block of cheese.

This is Mature Cheddar, obviuosly more mature than Asda care to let on :). Perhaps your peas weren't processed but surprise peas :D

Torn between returning it to the store and sending a piccy in an e-mail. Will decide in the morning.

take it back i would, has it got the asda sticker on it, their own brand? you got the proof there.

Yellow peas? - sounds more like chick peas.
Did it say 'processed' on the label?

For mold to have formed so soon it is most likely the cheese wasn't stored properly, before sale, and has sweated at some point. It really depends on whether the taste and texture are affected. If they're not I would eat it, myself, I've had mold form on cheese I've kept a long while and I've just cut it off.

The mold won't harm you, think of blue cheeses, but if you take it back I'm sure Asda will replace it.

In th'owd days you just cut the mould off and got on with eating it. Hard cheeses are fine for ages even with a bit of natural 'mould'

I generally cut odd bits of mould off myself, it's just that it seems to have formed way before what I would normally expect. Thankyou for the explanation. :)
